Sen. Bob Bennett won't quite rule out write-in campaign
In (very brief) conversations with several reporters today, Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah) refused to completely rule out a write-in campaign for U.S. Senate -- the only option left to him after losing his bid for the GOP nomination last week. I asked Bennett if he had ruled out a write-in campaign for either the GOP nomination or the general election.
"I have made a firm decision not to make any firm decisions," said Bennett, smiling -- then politely refusing to answer another reporter's question on what he thought his defeat meant for the GOP.
Bennett said the same thing to Roll Call and Politico, although in no case did he expand on what such a campaign would entail. That has led other senators to brush off the question. "He's not going to do that," Bennett's colleague Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) told Politico's Manu Raju.
