The tragedy of Indiana congressional candidate Tim Crawford

On May 17 I wrote about Tim Crawford, a right-wing activist who won a low-turnout Democratic primary for the right to challenge Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind.). On May 25, I noted that Crawford had bumbled through a local Democratic meeting, promised to quit the race, then reneged on his promise. TPM started following the story and points out that the local Democrats have released video of that Crawford meeting -- some of the most humiliating political footage I've seen. Crawford, bearded and dressed down, offers up talking point after talking point and crumbles completely under questioning.

Click through the video for the next four parts, which include moments like Crawford struggling to explain how bills are passed and calling homosexuality a "mutation." And check out a local blogger's theory that the out-of-his-depth Crawford won because voters trusted his name over the name of the party-backed candidate, Nassa Hanna.
