Joe Barton sticks around

The ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee has apologized to House Republicans for his remarks to BP chief executive Tony Hayward that the BP escrow fund is a "shakedown." The apology came after Barton met with and expressed regrets to Gulf Coast members of the conference.

As far as Republicans are concerned, so ends the story of the Man Who Apologized to BP. He's being robustly defended by the conservative movement's talk radio and think tank voices, and he's not in line to run the committee if Republicans win the House.
