Mark and Jenny Sanford, reunited for Nikki Haley

James Warner, the news director for Live 5 news in Charleston, S.C., had the photo of the night:

That's Jenny Sanford greeting Gov. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.), her estranged husband who famously found his soulmate -- not her -- in last year's Appalachian trail-tinged soap opera. They were at Nikki Haley's victory party, having both played roles in getting her elected. Mark, who became politically toxic after his scandal, watched his dormant PAC wake up and spend $400,000 on TV ads for Haley in the last stretch of the primary. Jenny, who won public sympathy after the scandal, endorsed Haley in November 2009, and defended her during the bizarre, going-nowhere stories alleging she had been unfaithful to her husband.

We're going to hear more claims that Haley's win was a victory for Sarah Palin, who swooped in on May 13 -- and who also endorsed 1st district GOP nominee for Congress Tim Scott after the Club for Growth and other national conservatives had worked to build a lead for him. But if it's a triumph for anyone besides the candidate, who ran one of the best gubernatorial campaigns in the country, it's a triumph for the Sanfords, who got the successor they wanted against all odds.
