New Nikki Haley ad plays up her husband
Nikki Haley is out with a new TV ad that prominently features her husband, as she beats back rumors about an affair with a conservative blogger in the days before the South Carolina GOP governor primary.
The Haley ad is the equivalent of trotting out the candidate’s spouse at a post-scandal press conference in a show of solidarity between the married couple.
The difference here, of course, is that there is no real scandal at this point; the allegations have yet to be proven. Haley has firmly denied them, and there has been no concrete evidence to verify the claims.
In the ad, Haley alludes to that struggle.
“I’ve seen the dark side of our state’s politics,” Haley narrates. “And I know the bright side of our state’s people.”
The ad shows video of her husband, Michael, playing with their children and at the end shows the two side-by-side.
“I’m Nikki Haley, and this is my husband Michael,” she says. “I would be deeply honored to serve as your governor. Together, we can take back our government.”
The mention of her husband at the end would seem quite odd under any other circumstances. It's pretty apparent what the campaign is trying to do here.
The primary is Tuesday.
