Tea Party Express backs outsider in Utah Senate race

The Tea Party Express has joined FreedomWorks and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) and endorsed attorney Mike Lee in the race for Sen. Bob Bennett's (R-Utah) open seat. That pits both groups against Bennett, who, after publicly mulling over then passing on a write-in in bid, endorsed businessman Tim Bridgewater, the winner of the state convention.

There's almost no daylight between Lee and Bridgewater on the issues -- the campaign in the state has been defined, occasionally, by mudslinging over tactics instead of tests of ideology. But tea party activists like Lee because he's younger, has experience as a lawyer working on constitutional issues, and hasn't run for office before. Bridgewater, a twice-unsuccessful candidate for other offices, has locked up more local establishment support.

Below the fold, check out one of the TPE's latest fundraising letters and see how it leverages endorsements like these.

Last week we celebrated a great victory by helping Conservative Republican tea party activist, Sharron Angle, win the GOP Primary to take on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

It was a great victory for the conservative grassroots - defeating the establishment candidates with a true conservative patriot (Sharron Angle) who herself had attended 16 tea parties.

Angle's victory was just one of many election victories we at the Tea Party Express have celebrated.

We helped Scott Brown win Teddy Kennedy's seat in Massachusetts.

We helped propel Bart Stupak into an early retirement after he betrayed his constituents and supported ObamaCare.

We supported Rand Paul in his great victory in Kentucky.

And we targeted Democrats Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Alan Mollohan of West Virginia for defeat - and both were defeated in their primaries.

Now we have to keep the momentum going. We've listened to your feedback, read your e-mails and spoken with our friends in the tea party movement. There are many races where we will be taking a stand between now and November, but there are 3 races in particular that have emerged as our top priority.

We'll be unveiling those targeted races this week. And as we do we're going to need your help.

Please make a contribution to the Tea Party Express Election 2010 campaign fund. We're working to take our country back one election victory at a time, and we have so much work that still needs to be done. You can make a contribution - from as little as $5 to the maximum allowed $5,000
