Breaking News: Obama Shuffles Morning Routine

For those following the president-elect's exercise, dining and grooming schedule, the morning pool report from Chicago has a shocker: He dropped the girls at school this morning BEFORE going to the gym.

"President-elect Barack Obama's motorcade left his Kenwood home at 7:51 a.m. and headed directly to drop off his daughters, Sasha and Malia, at their school -- the University of Chicago Lab school," the Chicago Sun-Times's Natasha Korecki, today's pool representative, reported. "The motorcade arrived at the school at 8 a.m. The girls exited an SUV but their father did not. Sasha wore a colorful green backpack while Malia was dressed in darker clothes. Obama's motorcade then headed to his normal morning workout at the Regents Park apartments, arriving at 8:08 a.m. The pool could only catch a glimpse of Obama from the back as he entered the building. He wore a dark jogging suit and dark baseball cap."

This raises many questions about the next president. Was he not feeling well enough to help his girls out of the SUV, as he did the last time he took them to school? Does his dark attire reflect his mood?

But there is no time to ponder this right now. We must return to Washington, where the gloating is underway.

On Capitol Hill this morning, Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has summoned five hedge-fund chiefs to testify about the billions they make. And the chairman, never one to shy from partisan combat, had a Joe the Plumber reference in his opening statement:

"The five witnesses we will hear from today earned on average over $1 billion last year, yet the tax law allows them to treat the vast majority of their earnings as capital gains," Waxman said this morning. "That means that at least some portions of their earnings could be taxed at rates as low as 15 percent. That's a lower tax rate than many school teachers, firefighters or even plumbers pay."

Take that, Mr. Wurzelbacher.

We cannot treat Obama like Brad Pitt or George Clooney.. Why he didn't help the girls to get out of the SUV? Why he is wearing dark clothes? Ohhh please! We cannot start wondering things like that!

Just let he be.

I heart Henry Waxman. He deserves MUCH more time on TV.

A suggestion to the media.... PLEASE leave the President-elect alone. Despite his new position, his family need NOT always to be spied upon. I feel for those children.

Media take note: Americans can live without knowing what color the kids' backpacks are and what clothes they're wearing. We don't care what time the President-elect takes his daughters to school, goes to the gym, or takes a pee. Back off. You are all being terribly intrusive and I find it VERY offensive. Those girls need their time with their dad. Let them have their private, family moments, for cripes sakes.

Perhaps Mr. Obama didn't escort his daughters from the vehicle to school because he was confident there was sufficent security in place. As there should be. Mr. Obama perhaps wanted to deprive the media hounds of one less of his actions to report upon.
I'm certain that everyone can be assured that Mr. Obama kissed each of daughters and told them to have a nice day before leaving the vehicle.

OH, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! BACK OFF!

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND ENERGY!

This report about the President's routine and time with his daughters is exactly the kind of thing that makes the media laughable.

I hope the Obamas insist on privacy for their daughters as did the Clintons insist on it for Chelsea. Dad is the news, not the kids.

Will the previous comment people decrying the media coverage please relax. I am black (so this is not a race issue) and am extremely proud of the President elect and his family. However he is an icon right now and will likely stay one for any foreseable future. The media is doing media things. There is a hunger out there for Obama related stories and pictures and the media is obliging. Don't worry so much about the Obama family, they're solid enough to take care of the well being and psyche of their kids. It's what happens when you have leadership, charisma and politics all mixed into one family. Please, just relax. I for one would have been complaining if they were treating the Obamas like second class presidents. We should just be proud and enjoy the ride.

Claudine:

1. The Presidential MOTORCADE drove the girls to school, not Obama.

2. The motorcade is staffed by Secret Service personnel.

3. Obama won't be President until the afternoon of January 20, 2009. No "change" will, or can, occur before then.

Go take your Lithium.

What does the Secret Service think about the President-elect's daily route and schedule being made public?
