Kate Middleton channeling Michelle Obama?

By Autumn Brewington

The Daily Telegraph's fashion director, Hilary Alexander, wonders whether Kate Middleton is "doing a 'Michelle O'" with her choice of a black velvet Libelula coat for the wedding she and fiance Prince William attended on Saturday. Alexander wrote today that Kate selected "a highly desirable, but little known designer brand, much in the same way Michelle Obama has turned her First Lady wardrobe into a roll call of young talents -- and skyrocketed young designers such as Jason Wu, Thakoon Panichgul, Maria Cornejo and Prabal Gurung to global attention." The column also details the history of the Libelula label.

For many designers and royal watchers, whom Kate will wear next is a Big Question. Her ability to spark shopping frenzies has drawn worldwide attention since her engagement was announced in November. Kate's Issa London dress sold out that day. The retailers whose clothes she wore in her official engagement photos, Reiss and Whistles, have said they will re-release the items in limited amounts. As we noted this weekend, the Dulwich Coat can be purchased online here -- that is, until it too sells out.
