William, Kate and other royals in the news

By Autumn Brewington

Prince William and Kate Middleton were in the news this weekend -- and not just for fashion coverage. The royal bride-to-be was praised for singing along with the Welsh national anthem on Thursday; a palace spokesman said she had taken the initiative to learn the lyrics. The Telegraph had previously noted that the prince, who is serving as a search-and-rescue helicopter pilot in Wales, was picking up the language while based there. The couple is expected to live in Wales for two to three years after the wedding.

More on the wedding guest list: Those invited to Westminster Abbey on April 29 were known to include the owner of a pub not far from the Middleton family home in Bucklebury, England. It's emerged that the local butcher, mailman and at least two shop owners from Bucklebury also made the cut. Chan Shingadia, who runs a convenience store with her husband, Hash, told the Daily Mail that William and Kate last came in three weeks ago. "Kate showed us her ring and she seems very happy with William. We've really got to know Kate. ... She is like a human being, not a celebrity, and she is always a good customer." (Typical purchases reportedly include candy and ice cream.)

The couple weren't the only royals making headlines. William's younger brother and best man, Prince Harry, was spotted leaving a London nightclub with his on-off girlfriend Chelsy Davy. (The unmarked police car carrying the prince home later hit and injured a photographer.)

Separately, Chelsy was seen at the society wedding of the duke of Northumberland's daughter this weekend. Lady Katie Percy married financier Patrick Valentine at Alnwick Castle, which is better known as Hogwarts in the "Harry Potter" movies. Pippa Middleton, Kate's younger sister and maid of honor, also attended. (This wasn't the first time Pippa and Chelsy have been at the same event; they were seen at a London club with William and Harry's cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie this month.)

Harry was also spotted with his cousin Zara Phillips this weekend, cheering on England's rugby team against France. Zara is engaged to England player Mike Tindall.
