Britney Spears Tops Celebrity Virus Ranking

I absolutely love this story: Panda Software says pop star Britney Spears edged out Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Jennifer Lopez and Michael Jackson as the top e-mail enticement used to trick people into infecting their computers with viruses.

According to Panda, bogus e-mail links offering racy photos of Spears are such a successful vector for viruses that she has unwittingly become queen of the "celebrity virus ranking" list. The second person most frequently used by virus writers and other miscreants to distribute their crap is Bill Gates. You've seen the e-mail ...."Gates is giving away part of his fortune, click here."

Movie star and singer J Lo ranks a distant third, but ahead of singer Shakira. Terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden, who currently occupies the no. 5 spot, was recently the subject of e-mails claiming that he had been hung or finally caught.

And yes, Michael Jackson comes in sixth on the list, following a rather successful run -- before his acquittal Monday -- as the subject of a virus e-mail offering a link to news that the King of Pop had killed himself.

Somehow it seems perfectly appropriate that Britney would "carry" a virus...although the one celebrity I'd like to see vanish from my screen/newspaper/magazine cover forever is Paris Hilton. Could we attach something to her name so that it disappears?
