Spammers Favor Obama Over McCain 7 to 1

While political polls may show Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain locked in a close race for the White House, junk e-mail purveyors have a clear favorite.

According to research by Secure Computing, spammers are seven times as likely to invoke Obama's name in a subject line in a bid to trick people into opening the missives.

obain.jpg

The company found that spam touting either candidate peaked around the middle of the Republican National Convention. Still, for the month of September, political-themed junk e-mail favored Obama 84 percent of the time, while spam campaigns mentioning McCain made up just 12 percent of the total, Secure Computing said.

The vice presidential race, on the other hand, appears to be far more competitive - at least from the spammer's perspective. Secure Computing found that about 1.9 percent of fake political spam last month named Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in the headline, while 1.1 percent invoked the name of Sen. Joe Biden.

Spammers frequently tie their junk mail campaigns to current events, and an inflammatory subject line mentioning the political candidates can encourage quite a few people to open the messages. Most often, the content of the message is touting some kind of illegal online pharmacy or is an invitation to download a malicious program disguised as a Web browser plug-in that the message claims is needed to view video content referenced in the e-mail.

Here are a few of the political spam subject lines you may have seen in your inbox recently:

- Obama Ahead Amongst Voters With Similarly Weird Names
- Obama Supporters Attack Hillary in Second Life
- Jesus Endorses Obama; Four Horsemen Opt for McCain

E-mail security firm SonicWall says it expects to see about 5 billion political-themed spam messages between now and Election Day. Still, election-related spam will account for only about 2 percent of the total spam volume the company expects to see before Nov. 4.

How about 'New Web video just released by Osama Bin Laden encourages US voters to vote for Obama."

Posted by: brucerealtor | October 7, 2008 11:37 AM | Report abuse

Palin's attacks on Obama's so-called "relationship" with former Weatherman member, Bill Ayers, a "domestic terrorist", who never killed anyone and who was never convicted of anything and whose actions took place when Obama was 8 years old, have verged on racist as she claims that Obama "doesn't see America as you and I do".

At a rally yesterday, a crowd member screamed, "Kill Him" as Sarah laughed and cheered with the crowd.

A fake sherriff waddles to the podium after peeeuuu and calls out Barack Hussein Obama to the crowd to further boos and chants of kill him...

At a McCain rally, he asked, "Who is Barack Obama?" and a crowd member yelled out "Terrorist" as McCain held that silly smirk on his addled face.

This reprehensible type of political campaigning is typical of the desperation the Republican Party finds itself in, as their numbers in the polls fall like the stock market...

peeeuuu palin and her husband are closeted facists and traitors...and again so is Vietcong propaganda model McCaint...

What is the Alaskan Independence Party?

The A.I.P. sympathized with Timothy McVeigh.

Founder Joe Vogel: “The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government", “and I won't be buried under their damn flag." (Joe Vogel is buried in Canada.)

“I’m an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." Joe Vogel – Founder.

Dexter Clark, vice chairman of the A.I.P.: refers to the American soldiers in Alaska as "occupying troops."

Michael Hill, a representative of A.I.P., stated on Glen Beck’s program that the goal of the A.I.P. is to dissolve the United States and the Constitution.

This is Sarah Palin’s and the Republican Party’s version of patriotism and love of country.
........peeeuuuu

"First Dud", Todd Palin, registered with the Alaskan Independence Party in 1995 and remained a member for seven years. "Besides a short period of a few months in 2000 when he changed his registration to undeclared, pheww Palin remained a registered member of AIP until July 2002 when he registered again as an undeclared voter."

The AIP was founded in 1984, but its website doesn't begin listing officers until 1992, when its founder, Joe Vogler, "Disappeared"... in 1992, body found in May 1994."

As I have written in a previous blog...the same Joe Vogler who turned-up dead in a Fairbanks gravel pit, the victim of a "plastic-explosives sale gone bad", according to his murderer.

Sarah Palin addressed the Alaskan Independence Party Convention a little over 6 months ago, happily telling its attendees that she shared its "vision of upholding the Constitution of our great state", curiously not mentioning the Constitution of the United States.

She encouraged AIP to "keep up the good work".

The AIP website enshrines on its website a tirade from Joe Vogel that concludes with this statement.....

"We (the Alaskan Independence Party) ask that a courageous member of the United Nations sponsor us to appear before the General Assembly to present our case, that we may be restored to the list of Non-Self-Governing Territories so that we may eventually secure our right to self determination. We would also like to take the matter before the International Court of Justice if such is feasible."

...Now them's a fightun words.....

As for Wasilla, Alaska, it is STILL called the Methamphetamine capital of Alaska...oh also did you know that it is legal to possess under 3 ounces of Marijuhana in that state as well....

Sarah Sez..."gotta keep 'em stoned and stupid"

peeeuuu Palins 80% approval rating..yea, now I can see why...

Thanks but no thanks to McCaint and eeeuuu Palin for their treachery and further traitorus encounters

It is not at all surprising that spammers, 85% to 15% for Obama, have got in on the act. I hope they are truly the members of the Temple of Obama which I saw unveiled at the DNC convention.

Just because rich boy William Ayers was too stupid to have been successful in killing anyone, it does not make him any less a terrorist. As to all your vituperation about McCain, Palin, Alaska and anything which does not have the fingerprint of Obama and the Democratic Party on it, I would bet that someone is there who is a counterweight to you. Next time just post something like "Hey Y'all I'm an idiot and like to spout crap that's meaningless" and then spend the remaining 9 minutes pulling your head out of your hind end.

Sarah Palin and McSame's rallying tactics are reminicent of Nazi rallies where people in the crowd chanted "death" and other menancing racist slogans against a certain minority group that was targetted for extermination. The Nazies loved to elicit this type of reaction from the crowd. I am afraid that Palin (even judging the way she dresses and carries her hair) working the crowds like a Nazi as well and on purpose. This is shameful and the media should denounce them.

The "Warmonger" and the "Witch Hunter" are a real pair of aces. I love how these sultans of greed and arrogance like to wrap themselves in the American flag and spew their hated and intolerance out in the airwaves so that their wacked-out followers now have permission to attack anyone who dares disagree with their ideology.

These two and their operatives are so warped that they have no clue of the meaning of patriotism, honor or duty to county. Their campaign and their true character is becoming disgusting obvious to the entire nation with each passing day...

In response to AlexP1 taking his meds, I can confirm that indeed he does, as I am his wife. However, they are not the meds to which you are referring, they are very expensive diabetic meds which have gone up consistently under this administration, and I fear would not be covered at all under a McCain administration. As far as not knowing what he speaks, I'm afraid I'll have to disagree once again, as he has a Masters Degree (not in charm or spelling as you may have guessed..lol),but he does know a thing or two about politics as he has been actively involved in them for most of his adult life. (I promise Alex not to divulge how many years that now is LOL) In response to his comments about McCain/Palin, I'll just respond with this: be careful which direction you sling mud (McCain and Palin), it may have the boomerang effect and wind up hitting you where it hurts most, your reputation. Unfortunately, most politicians resort to slime at some point in an election and this one is no exception to the rule. Fortunately for Alex, there are people who listen to his comments and enjoy his brand of humor. Fortunately for me, he keeps it on his blogs and not at home. Hey everyone needs a hobby right? I would suggest that you right wingers who can't stand the heat, to do as they say and remove thyself from the very steamy kitchen. Remember, nobody knew this woman before McCain made the poor judgement to choose her, and it's people like Alex and SOOOOOOO many other bloggers out there who take information readily found on the internet and from non MSM reporting outlets and share it with our main stream friends. Soon these little "Sarah secrets" will no longer be. Enjoy!

@ brucerealtor

I'm not sure what your point was regarding the Osama video, but if you're insinuating Obama's in league with the terrorists, then you have been fooled. Ever heard of reverse psychology? If a terrorist against America tells you to vote for somebody, what will you do? Vote for the other guy. You don't think that's precisely what bin Laden wants you to do? He's been able to hide for years; you don't think he's smart enough to know how to play on America's fears? Right now, with our soldiers dying overseas and our economy in collapse, bin Laden is having a field day (soon to be a field decade). But I suspect he's worried that if Obama wins the election, this new president will do more to promote world peace and global unification than McCain would. He would also do more to build up America's faltering world image. So, the smart thing for him (bin Laden) to do, as a terrorist, is to throw his support behind someone who's currently being linked in a very exaggerated manner to a former domestic terrorist who operated around the time Obama was in the second or third grade. America's unintelligent will make 2+2=jello based on Osama's video and vote for McCain. I have great respect for McCain (less so since his campaign has become negative and he picked a puppet for VP)so I'm not trying to convince anyone to vote one way or the other. I would just like everyone to do one simple thing: THINK.

Osama is issuing public support for Obama since he knows this will help McCain.

Osama knows that President McCain will be mired in Iraq forever looking for a "win" to go after Osama.

If you are making a big deal of Osama's "support" for Barak than you are as dumb as Osama thinks you are.

Unfortunately, it’s been HELL eight years for me and my family.

My wages have declined because of downsizing. My wife also encountered a huge health scare that caused us to accumulate a fairly large debt.

Our combined income is less than what it was in 2001. Our Debt to income ratio is a lot higher than it was in 2001. Our Net worth is actually negative compared to positive in 2001.

We are struggling on daily basis with no end in sight.

We also lost a family member to the war in Iraq.

In short, the last eight years have been a HELL for me and my family.

Hmmm...

I believe it was 2 years ago that the Americans for "Change" voted in a democratic congress. Let's look at that for a second...

Gas Prices October 28, 2006: $ 2.19 per gallon
GAS Prices October 6, 2008: $ 3.89/Gallon

DOW October 31, 2006: 13795.85 (a 2 1/2 year high)

It's not Bush, kids. It's your democratic majority in congress. They promised change, and you got change... Now we have Mr. Obama promising change... my question to you is... How much more change can you afford?

Posted by: KThanksBye | October 7, 2008 3:22 PM | Report abuse

Ok its true that Obama isnt that qualified to be president, but an even sadder fact is that people are even less enthusiastic about McCain, McBush, McRNC, so the GOP should of had a different nominee, then maybe they would of had a chance. A new national poll taken by watchdebate.com says that people preffer Huckabee/Palin08
5 to 1 over mccain palin. Matter of fact those polled liked Huckabee/mccain08 over McCain/Palin08 nearly 2 to 1. The problem isnt how bad Obama is, The problem is how bad of a candidate McCain is. See the Poll your self at http://www.mccanes.com/watchdebatevp.html

So no matter how much the GOP crys, and how desperate they get its their own fault for Pushing such a weak candidate. This will be the first time I ever vote Dem and I think Obama is a much stronger candidate then McCain. Funny though, You will never believe who was voted Debator of the year.

People in flyover states shouldn't even get a vote. You don't know what is best for you like those of us on the coasts do. We are more enlightened and have better schools. We live in high rises and live close to our jobs and talk to our friends and know what is best for the country. We know how to take care of the environment because we see it every few years on vacation. You people who live in the country don't love this land as much as we do. You are just stupid and hicks and cling to your guns and religion. Soon we will get rid of the fairness doctine and close down right wing talk radio and you won't even know what to think anymore. We will restrict your guns and free speech and within a generation American will be all that it should be. You conservatives are just holding us back. Marriage is an outdated principle. God is a figment of your imaginations. Government is the answer to all questions. Let Live, Let love, let those who think like us be free to live the lives we are entitled to. We need free medical care, we need to open up the borders so all can share in the wealth we will take. We need to manufacture only non-polluting 100 percent eco friendly products. We need to stop robbing the world of its resources and stop mining, drilling, and taking from America. We need to stop importing natural resources from abroad and stop exploiting them from America. We need to outlaw all uses of energy and grow our economy. No one needs a car or transportation. It is killing our mother earth. We need to take the assets of those who have accumulated them and distribute them to all so that all is fair and good. We need to sit down and talk to our enemies. That is the only way to reach true peace and harmony. They don't want to kill us, they just want our acceptance and love. What is wrong with you stupid neo-cons who don't see the light. It would all be so easy if we just love one another. Obama is the way, the truth, and the light. He is the only one who can save us from those who would do us harm. He has the answers and we should follow him blindly. He shields us from the storm. He is The One.

The only people better off over the last 2 years or I should say 8 are the rich! Made up mainly of the Oil Industry, Finicials and the Military Industrial Complex. The Bush family who has deep ties to big oil and finical (S&L crisis) and Chaney and Rumsfeld in MIC. Bush and Chaney made the CEO's of MIC extremely rich what makes you think that they haven't done the same for their oil pals especially since he is lame duck president (come boys belly up to the bar the gravy train maybe coming to an end)! So what does McCain want to do cut taxes for the rich, deregulate medical insurance and finical and implement more free trade agreements, how does that help middle and low income Americans? The trickle down economics of the Reagan years is not working the rich have stopped the drip. I guess we could compete with the world if we brought back the sweat shops of the early 20th century, hey we also would have the added benefit of killing illegal immigration since life in the US wouldn't be any different than Mexico

I, like many Americans believe that character, honesty, and integrity really do go to the foundation of who the next president should be. Sure McCain should allocate attention to the economy, but I find many of your criticisms to mirror the pro-Obama biased media ... the Obama campaign ... and other McCain detractors. Did you ever consider that the reasons Obama is ahead in the polls might be because Obama's outspending McCain via advertising ... he has a biased media in the tank, who provides him with more and better exposure, and editorial endorsement ... Obama has 96% of the black vote ... he enjoys the relentless support of a completely biased entertainment industry, plus the left wing educational community, plus massive illegal, or unethical fund raising, and voter registration drives, by groups like Acorn ... not to mention the fact that thanks to democratic propaganda, McCain has to carry Bush's weight. At this point in time, many Americans are also beginning to question the validity of the POLLS. Are they skewed, like the biased media? Do they truly reflect reality? Are the sample groups mostly black voters? If the Democrats are so sure they've already won, how come the keep trying so hard to make the rest of us believe it? Just like they did against Hillary! There is a good chance that if we can keep voter fraud out of this election, that on November 4th, the actual voters, in the privacy of their booths, will elect McCain/Palin, by a comfortable margin.
