End of Summer Deals

Ever notice how retailers make our one-day national holidays last a whole week with their sales? Labor Day may have ended Monday but it's going on until at least Saturday in the world of retail. If only the rest of us celebrated with a week of no work. At least we can spend away our sorrows with some of these sale prices, which seem to be the most dramatic on appliances, electronics and other household items. Just beware that many of them only offer these prices if you charge it to their store cards. Here are some of this week's best deals:

Sears, whose Labor Day sale prices will last until Saturday, is offering 10 percent off any 40-inch or bigger high-def television as long as you pay with your Sears card. Or shoppers can choose two years of no interest payments as long as you pay the full amount before the two-year mark. Certain mattresses, like Simmons, Serta and Sealy, are half off and include free delivery and haul-away of your old mattress. You can also get Colormate towels and sheet sets for half off. The store has also marked down several of its appliances such as the Stainless Steel Kenmore Elite, which was marked down nearly $300 to $1,572.49. Some appliances also come with cash back deals after you mail in a rebate form.

Circuit City is also making its Labor Day prices valid until Saturday. The store has marked down several items including a Hewlett Packard laptop for $650, an LG 42-inch high-def television for $999.99 and a Samsung 8.1 megapixel digital camera for about $80. By the way, the store offers free shipping on its Web site purchases of $24 or more.

Home Depot has marked down all of its appliances by 10 percent. The Maytag Legacy range is going for $500 and the same line has a washer and dryer for around $800 until next Tuesday. The store is also offering an LG french door refrigerator for $1,300 and an LG dishwasher for $800.

Linens 'n Things has a brushed steel four-piece lamp set for under $100, Oxford bath towels for $3.99, all kinds of chairs for $30 to $100, and any size Solaris Portland, Solaris Grandover and Damask Stripe window panels for $49.99. Plus, buy a 10-piece Circulon set of pots and pans for about $180 and get a $50 Linens 'n Things gift card. You can also print a 20 percent off coupon from the store's Web site for an in-store purchase until Sept. 13.

If you're in the market for an update to covered furniture, Crate & Barrel is in the midst of its annual upholstery sale. The offer, which lasts until Oct. 5, allows shoppers to pick out one of their furniture styles and fabric for a discounted price. The store is also rewarding those of us who like to charge to their card with six months of interest-free payments. By the way, the store has several sofas for under $1,000.

So where are you finding good holiday deals? Are the deals better this season than they were a year ago? Post a comment below.
