Many have scratched their heads over this murky process (especially in these hard times), but now the cheeky internet marketing team at Macmillan has pulled back the curtain with "From the Typewriter to the Bookstore: A Publishing Story." Who knew that F. Scott Fitzgerald's editor wrote every third word of "The Great Gatsby"? Or that Second Life and World of Warcraft avatars account for 90 percent of book publicity outreach, and contribute 70 to 80 percent of total book sales? Now, that's good news.
