For the reader in the chat who wanted to know about good short stories?

T.C. Boyle still writes a mean one. You can get an anthology of several of his first collections - "T.C. Boyle Stories - at Amazon or most bookstores.

I really love it because instead of presenting them in order, he (or his editor) lumped them into 3 categories: "Love", "Death", & "And Everything in Between". So you get older and newer stories nicely juxtaposed, if you just crack the book open and read straight through.
