Would love to know the circumstances under which the angry-fist photo was shot.

The first and third photos are quite striking. The first, because it looks like Mr. Salinger is attempting to confront someone taking a picture of him from a car. The second because of the microphone. That's the last thing I'd expect to see in a photograph with him.
