Attention, Parents: Larry Craig is Seeking Interns

If you've ever wanted to be a fly on the wall in Sen. Larry Craig's office, now's your chance.

The Idaho Republican has just announced he's taking applications for summer internships in his Capitol Hill office, which has been the brunt of gossip and many a colorful "wide stance" joke ever since last summer, when Craig was busted in a Minneapolis-St. Paul airport men's room sex sting.

"Interns have the chance to be an essential part of a working congressional office," Craig said in a press release issued Tuesday. "They participate in the legislative process as well as ensure that constituent services run smoothly. For those interested in politics, it is an incredible opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at how our government functions while serving the people of Idaho."

Craig is giving preference to "Idaho applicants attending Idaho schools who are in their junior or senior years of college (including graduating seniors)."

The interns Craig seeks are "expected to fulfill some administrative duties such as answering phones, sorting mail and greeting constituents."

Better hurry, kids. This will likely be your last chance to be a summer intern in Senator Craig's office. Craig, who was rebuked by the Senate Ethics Committee this month for his bathroom conviction, says he's retiring next January when his term expires.

Do the interns need to have a "wide stance" too?

I can't believe I get to be the first to ask if he's looked in the men's room!

In the event of too many applicants, the tie-breaker will be a toe tapping contest followed by orals.

pretty disgusting behavior from a Christian.

How about this: each applicant will submit an essay on "How 'Brokeback Mountain' Illustrates Idaho Family Values."

Senator Craig is not Congressman Foley.

Craig was not accused of misconduct with any employees on his staff or working on Capitol Hill.

Do I have to show you my porno collection to get an interview?

Posted by: thoop | February 26, 2008 10:32 PM | Report abuse

Seriously? How is Senator Craig still in office? Can the voters conduct a recall vote and remove him?

Thank you for conflating homosexual behavior and child abuse. This is an old line that has been used to destroy many lives and it should be laid to rest.

I heard that his new intern is John Paulus. An openly gay, real estate agent from North Carolina. I don't know if it is true, but had heard on several websites that Larry chose John because he is highly qualified for the job.

Okay, so I see the point about Craig having never been accused of being inappropriate with staff, but no one is "conflating homosexual behavior and child abuse" in this entry or in the comments. He's looking for college students - interns, not pages.

Does Barney Franks (D-MA) do interns too?

This man, in many respects, is the face of a discredited GOP. I feel bad for his family. I think everyone would just wish he'd go away.

So, a guy is gay and that makes him a pediphile? I guess this blog was supposed to be fresh or clever. Sadly it is neither.

What sort of credentials does it take to get a blog with the Post?

I thought that the Post saw itself as enlightened but continues to post anti-gay crap like this. Way to go.

This is a stupid and homophobic post.

Any young Republican should jump at the chance to learn from an experienced Senator. Great way to get real 'hands on' experience. Too funny.

I don't get it. Is Larry Craig also a pedophile? Sounds like Mary Ann Ankers equates the two. When the reality is that hetrosexual men are MUCH more likely to be child molesters.

Shame on Mary!!

Other than that, Larry Craig is a joke with his "wide stance". He needs to come out of the closet and get over himself.

He's a hypocrit! He represents one of the reddest states of America (I live in Idaho). I could care less whether he was yellow with green polkadots. He spouts pro family, anti gay crap and then denies he's gay. He's a hypocrit AND an embarressment! Far as I'm concerned that's worse than being gay!

I don't much care what Larry Craig does in the bedroom or toilet stall or what-have-you. Don't give a damn actually. But I do care about what goes on in the US Senate and "Senator" Craigs "retirement" can't come a moment too soon.

Do applicants need to have a "wide-stance" on all issues? Incredible, you just couldn't make this up. When is this toe-tapping creep leaving office?

Matt Lauer was having trouble keeping a straight face when he was interviewing Craig with his wife and Craig kept insisting that he was "not gay".

When is this toe-tapping creep leaving office? It can't be soon enough!

I was "stancing" a few minutes myself this morning when the law of stancing physics came to me out of the blue.

Since trousers act as a shackle around one's lower legs, the width of a "stance" is directly proportional to one's waistline. This law can only be overcome by removing one or both legs from the trousers.

Enough said about the rediculousness of the WS alibi. This clown need to remove himself from public life.

This is a great opportunity for toe tappers.

I hope Larry Craig gets cancer after a prolonged bout with alzheimers while incarcerated at Gitmo.

I hope he outlives his children and friends.

Gee..would the job applicants for Larry Craigs internships need to slide their resumes under the closest bathroom stall? This guy is a joke.
