The New SwiftBoating: Swift Kids for Truth

In the "just because it's funny" category, we thought we'd bring you today's entertainment courtesy of Swift Kids for Truth, whose main target is Hillary Rodham Clinton.

A spoof on the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth group that wrecked John Kerry's 2004 presidential quest, Swift Kids for Truth is out to get something far different: laughs.

Unlike the bitter old cronies they spoof, the Swift Kids are pint-sized and cherubic, making their "attacks" on Clinton all the more captivating. In our favorite of their attack ads, the wee Swifties take Hillary Clinton to task for her 1992 campaign declaration in which she famously disparaged not just the act of baking cookies but the consummate cookie baker: Every Mom.

"I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies," flashes Clinton's quote on the screen underneath a scowling image of the then aspiring first lady and now aspiring president.

What's wrong with cookies? the Lil' Swifties want to know. "My mom baked this cookie," an adorable tow-headed boy says defensively. "Does baking cookies for me make my mom a bad person? Hillary Clinton thinks so," says another Swift kiddie.

The Swift Kids discovered a damning online document: a recipe for former first lady Hillary Clinton's chocolate-chip cookies. "Why the double standard?" one of them asks, while another says, "Oh, I thought you didn't care about baking cookies."

Swift Kids for Truth was created by, which was created by Arianna Huffington, who, of course, created the leading lefty online political and news site, The Huffington Post. Huffington tells us the brains behind the Swift Kids videos are writer/performer Jon Benjamin and Brian Spinks, who oversees video for 23/6.

"The great thing about the SwiftKids spots -- and one of the reasons they've been such a sensation on the Internet - is that they act as a political Rorschach test," Huffington wrote in an email to us today. "People on all sides of the ideological spectrum see them in very different ways. Some see them as shots at the candidates, others as shots at the 527 groups that mount these kinds of attacks, or the media that enables them by giving them such prominent play."

While most of the half dozen or so Swift Kids ads are fairly innocuous and very funny, a couple of them border on offensive -- at least if you're Hillary Clinton they do.

In one ad, which you can view here, a kid declares, "Hillary Clinton is a thief." The elementary school-aged accusers say the former first lady stole "stuff" from the White House "like towels and plates and other stuff." (Presumably, this is a reference to "Towel Gate.")

In the same ad, another angelic-looking kid says, "Hillary Clinton is not a woman. She's a man."

Yet another ad, titled "Hillary's Lies," opens with the Swift Kids appearing individually and whispering the name of an old Clinton scandal that happened before they were born: "Whitewater." Midway through the video, as if he suddenly remembered reading the story in the paper back in the day, another kid says, "Oh yeah, Travelgate."

Huffington hasn't received any complaints from Clinton or her campaign about the videos.

And stay tuned -- Spinks, the director of video content at 23/6, says there are more Swift Kids on the way! "We're currently cutting one on a ranch that's about getting back to traditional American values, another about Hillary's pantsuits, and one about Obama's cocaine use."

Shame on Arianna Huffington for resorting to such tactics, instead of confronting Hillary Clinton on her political stances.

The use of kids, the insignificant aspects on which the criticism is based, putting the worst republican interpretation on some issues (It was initially alleged that some furniture was missing, but later that it was not true; wasn't it?), the very use of the "Swift" adjective for this advertsing campaign; all of these leave a bad taste in the mouth.

it's tow-headed, not toe-headed....what, does the kid have a foot growing out of his forehead?

These spots are clearly aimed at the 527s that, without a shred of decency, turned Kerry, the Vietnam war hero, into Kerry, the coward.

My only problem with these joke ads is that they all seem to be aimed at Hillary. However, this one-sidedness may presage the general election if Hillary wins the nomination. We all know that the Republicans have a whole trove of damning-sounding (if not outright damning) evidence against Hillary that will enter the vernacular in the general election. They've been licking their chops for years waiting for her to be nominated.

A primary vote for Hillary is a general election vote for McCain.

Swift boating, Swifts adults, Swift Kids--all of this is dirty politics at its worst. Who in heaven would promote this sort of stuff--regardless of one' political leanings.
I am appalled by the media's one-sided anti-H.Clinton slant and their bias in favor of both Obama and McCain.
As for the Clinton-Obama competition, the media did not touch on Obama supporters' threats against Congressional Black Caucus members who support Hillary.
Can you imagine the media hype, if delegates committed to Senator Obama were threatened???

Dear Sleuth,

Someone sent me the following. Please dig into this mystery and try to see if these things are true. My dog died from the melanine from China.

An Open Letter to Hillary Clinton from Another Wellesley College Alumna

Hillary, Will You Renounce Your Ties to Monsanto?

Dear Hillary,

By polling logic, I should be your supporter -- Democrat, woman, white, liberal. But this past summer I saw a News Hour show on farmers committing suicide in Maharashtra, India, which affected me deeply. I started learning what was happening to farmers and to food and how the Clintons are connected.

The News Hour piece said Monsanto, a US agricultural corporation, hired Hollywood actors to sell illiterate farmers Bt (genetically engineered) cotton seeds, promising they'd get rich from big yields. The expensive seeds needed expensive fertilizer and pesticides (Monsanto's) and irrigation. There is no irrigation there. Crops failed. Farmers had immense debt and couldn't collect seeds to tr y again because Monsanto seeds are 'patented' as 'intellectual property'.

'Genetic Engineering is often justified as a human technology, one that feeds more people with better food. Nothing could be further from the truth. With very few exceptions, the whole point of genetic engineering is to increase sales of chemicals and bio-engineered products to dependent farmers.' - David Ehrenfield: Professor of Biology, Rutgers University.

Monsanto has a $10 million budget and 75 person staff to prosecute farmers.

Since the late 1990s (as industrial agriculture took hold in
India),166,000 Indian farmers have committed suicide and 8 million have left the land (P. Sainath, The Hindu). Farmers in Europe, Asia, Africa, Indonesia, South America, Central America and here, have all protested Monsanto and genetic engineering.

What does this h ave to do with you, Hillary?

Your Orwellian-named 'Rural Americans for Hillary' were Monsanto's lobbyists. My greater concern, though, is you former-employer, Rose Law Firm, representing Monsanto, world's largest GE (GE - genetic engineering) corporation; Tyson, world's largest meat producer; Walmart, the world's largest retailer. Rose Law Firm is home to Industrial FOOD.

Rose's cozy connections: Jon Jacoby, senior at the Stephens Group - one of the largest shareholders of Tyson, Walmart, DP&L - is C.O.B. of DP&L, arranged the Wal-Mart deal. Jackson Stephens from the Stephens Group staked Walton and financed Tyson. Monsanto bought DP&L. Hilllary, Walmart's board invited you on and Tyson executives helped you make a $100,000 trade just before Bill's governorship. Jackson Stephens backed Bill Clinto for Governor, then President (donating $100,000).

Monsanto has manufactured Agent Orange, PCBs, nuclear weapons components, pesticides, and are now tampering with our food.

Here is what occurred with Bill in office:

1. The USDA significantly weakened chicken waste/contamination standards, easing Tyson's poultry-factory expansion.

2. Monsanto people were put in charge of food, ...

3. The FDA okayed Monsanto's rBGH (bovine growth hormone), the first GE-product ever approved.

4. Despite bovine illness/death, the FDA didn't recall or warn the public.

5. When dairymen labeled their milk containers 'rBGH-free,' the USDA threatened confiscation.

6. Organic food was the last way around this unknown danger. The FDA tried to close that escape route with new 'organic' standards, to include: genetic engineering of plants/animals, food irradiation , sewage sludge fertilizer. The USDA backed down from public response 20 times greater than any other issue laid before American food:
OILS: Indian sheep died eating from Bt cotton fields. Our children eat Bt cottonseed oil in peanut butter and cookies.

GRAINS: 49 per cent of corn acreage planted in Bt corn in 2007. A French study indicates it causes kidney and liver toxicity. Monsanto controls the U.S.'s two main crops, soy (90% GMO, 90% of traits 'belong' to Monsanto) and corn, the largest crop (60% GMO, nearly 100% Monsanto 'owned' traits).

MEAT: Monsanto steroids fatten animals, our fattening children eat steroid-laced meats. The FDA allowed 'known TSE-positive (Transmissible spongiform encephalopathy Mad Cow Disease) material to be used in pet food, pig, chicken and fish feed.' Monsanto's GE-hormone increases risk sick cows are entering the U.S. food chain.

POULTRY: The USDA weakened waste/contamination standards. Waste from transnational poultry industry is now implicated as the source of bird flu. The poultry industry is using the crisis to push out small farmers.

MILK: Scientific studies indicate Monsanto's rBGH increases risks of breast cancer by up to seven-fold, increases colon, prostate cancers risks. Canada, 29 European nations, Norway, Switzerland, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa ban U.S. rBGH dairy products. Bill's USFDA put no restrictions, warning labels, or any labels on these foods.

*Control out of control.*

Monsanto's Terminator genes make plants sterile after one season, posing apocalyptic risk of breaking out into nature. GE breakouts have contaminated maize and many weeds, already.

Monsanto, meat-packers, and the USDA are pushing NAIS (National Animal Identification System), a corporate database tracking small farmers' livestock. Monsanto is pushing state laws to take control from farmers, communitie s, with GE planting.

*Bees - dead canaries in the mine.*

Your proposed 'Department of Food Safety' centralizes control over food into whose hands? You talk tough on labeling 'foreign' food but Bill degraded U.S. food and prevented minimally sane labeling. You never objected. Areas reporting the highest number of bee colony deaths are areas which grow Monsanto seeded foods.

Monsanto uses child labor in India.

You take Monsanto donations. Blacks, our poorest group, have to eat Monsanto's steroid/hormone/antibiotic-filled GE food. You take Monsanto donations.

Who are you protecting? National Black Farmers Association, who is boycotting Monsanto? Babies drinking rBGH milk? Women fearing breast cancer?
Despairing farmers? Suffering animals? Children fed
kidney-and-liver-toxic Bt-corn?

Or Monsanto?

I am a person before I am a woman. Your gender is irrelevant. Given deadly threats to my grandchildren's future by your corporate connections (Edwards was right), I don't believe your talk of 'caring' about Blacks/women/children/health/farmers/food.

I will vote for someone committed to small farmers - our ONLY chance at real food safety. Your friends, though, are at the heart of an international industrial agricultural nightmare.

It seems to me that "SwiftBoating" all politicians is a GOOD thing.

"SwiftBoating" is the exposure of a politicians lying position by telling the truth about his position.

The 527 organizations "SwiftBoated" kerry ie that is they exposed his lies about his military service and told the truth.

I think the truth should be told about ALL politicians even if they wish to call it "SwiftBoating"

People: IT'S A JOKE

Posted by: getoveryourselves | February 20, 2008 10:56 AM | Report abuse

Just when you think Adriana's ego can't get bigger, or her brain smaller or her actions lower, she comes up with this.

She runs a blog that is so biased against Clinton it makes me sick. The vulgarity, anti-American rhetoric and lies that are posted on her blog are so disgusting; it is not worth trying to have an adult conversation.
These are NOT funny.
First of all they are lies, and they are personal attacks against a woman who accomplishes more important work in 1 HOUR than Huffington does in a year.
Huffington has never had a bad day, except for when she found out her husband was gay, and then probably not even then. She married a rich man, who lifted her out of her mundane life, and fast became a GOP Gadfly.
She has never had to worry about paying her bills, because she walked away with money, she has never had to worry about health insurance, or if she will loose her home. It is easy for her to yak all day about Iraq, a war she has no kids fighting in, as if that was the ONLY issue we face.
If I had her money and free time, maybe I would exclude everything else too.
Now she comes up with THIS trash. My bet is she will NEVER do the coke ad, and even tho I support Clinton, to do that to Obama would be so low class. She does not explore any of the real issues in this campaign, because if she did she would be unable to support a man who has done NOTHING in the Senate, who ran for Congress in ILL. and LOST, and who only won against Allen Keys, which anyone could do.
He was a lousy State Senator, letting his district freeze in slums while he partied with REZKO, and did NOTHING to help them. He lied about passing bills, when in fact, other than a Bill to support Democracy in Congo, and naming a Post Office, he has not produced ONE piece of Legislation.
His wife is FINALLY proud to be an American, now that her husband is winning by hook or by crook, and I guess from her words she was not proud on 9-11, she was not proud when she received that scholarship, or when this country allowed her the freedom to worship at a Church that calls Jews Bloodsuckers, and calls for the destruction of Israel, which in Canada would be a HATE CRIME.
So this person, with her tight skirts riding up over her hips, and her nasty mouth, who makes millions and lives in this huge home (such a DEAL!) and got so much from AMERICA is FINALLY proud? When she is set up to be the FIRST LADY, she is proud, otherwise NOT? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE ANYWAY???
Huffington makes me sick, with her phony liberalism (she is so liberal, not only will she bless the Black man, but trash the White woman) with nothing to speak of in her own life other than the money to push her own twisted idea of the truth and stack her Blog with echoes of her thinking, this idiot, has the gall to do this, to USE CHILDREN, to say these things, and she thinks this is funny? Read the trash on her Blog and tell me this is a joke.
We better think about this, because what she dished out is not the BEST we can be, but the WORST. Pandering to the haters in America will not solve our problems, and neither will cribbed speeches from a man who is unable to get himself together to write law.
WE need to do better, and FOR ONCE can we NOT let the MEDIA pick our President? They gave us BUSH TWICE, and NOW they want to give us OBAMA.
NO THANKS, I'm not having any kool aid today.
And tomorrow, once again, Clinton will show she really is READY to be our President, and ONCE AGAIN, she will be buried and dismissed because she is not Obama.
All we get is criticism of Clinton, and short clips and 24/7 coverage of Obama, slanted, biased, designed to present him as the ONLY one. If he is nominated, I am voting for McCain, with JOY, because at least I will have a grown up to vote for.
I will NOT vote for a puppet of Old, Failed candidates like Kennedy or Kerrey, a man who finds nothing wrong with the message of his Church, or takes $160,000. of Syrian Nationals money to fund his Senate bid, only to give it back AFTER 3 years when he is caught by the FBI in the REZKO investigation, a man he has been friends with for 17 years, who was one of his chief fundraisers, who Obama lied about, saying her "knew him from around Chicago", and gave back "the small donations" he could find. The REZKO Trial starts on March 3. If the media buries it because it doesn't fit with their story, then we will have really lost a lot. If you want to know who Obama REALLY is, go to the Chicago Sun Times, and SEARCH Obama and Rezko. THEN tell me why you want him to be our President.

Barack Obama does not live up to his Actions:

· Barack Obama is running on Promises and Speeches. He has not kept his promises. And now we are finding out his words are not always his own.

· Barack Obama talks about the Special Interests: But his actions let down the workers of Maytag and the families who live near nuclear power plants.

· Barack Obama talks about Campaign Reform: But he is breaking his first big promise to voters that he would take public financing - his campaign says he never even made it.

· Barack Obama talks about the Importance of his Words: But some of them are borrowed.

· If all you have to go on are Barack Obama's promises and speeches, how do you know he is ready to be Commander in Chief?

It just goes to prove Obama's core support is from and the George Soros crowd. It's also a pity that the greatest woman in US political history gets run down by amateurs and undergraduates who believe the tripe that Obama and his acolytes are peddling. I hope John McCain pulls off a Lieberman and makes Obama 2008's Ned Lamont.

I wonder if Ariana have thought that using children in these videos might suggest a line of exploiting children. It's a shame. She uses children for sensatonalizm. I happen to know her personally. And the idea of using children for these videos bother me. On the other hand, this video shows that we, adults, are like children, naive and irratinal in our thinking and discriminating towards a woman who challeges a traditional role of a woman.

I see this video as making fun of those who make these remarks about Hillary, those who hate her for stupid reasons and how irrational they can be.

Why isn't "Swift Kids for Truth" legally a PAC? I don't know how much they spent on making these ads but it seems to meet all the other criteria.

These ads are clearly anti-Hillary. And, as far as I know, the FEC has not authorized a "cuteness" exception. It looks very much to me like Huffington is trying to exploit a loophole that doesn't exist.

Obama and his surrogates have reached a new low in underhanded passive aggressiveness.

What's amazing is that I'm sure his campaign pays for this stuff while he stands there is speaches claiming he wants to run a postive campaign.

Have you ever been conned by a really good con man. Obama and Axelrod are as vicious as anyone who has ever emerged from the Chicago political machine.

Think about everything he claims Hillary is guilty of... LIES???? LOL ... like every word out of Obama's Mouth.

Did you know that he campaigned for Lieberman to help defeat the anti-war candidate Lammont (who won) in CT? No. Obama doesn't talk about that.

I don't really go in for religious revivals posting as a political campaign and if I want to see a rock star, I'll go to a concert.

Hillary is at least down-to-earth and what she says, is what she does, and she thinks on her feet and I believe she will be a great President.
