A Frustrated Rep. Abercrombie Has Advice for Obama

Hey, Obama Campaign, Look, Over Here!

Would the Obama campaign please hush and listen to Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii) for crying out loud? He's desperately trying to tell you something - but you won't listen. In fact, you won't event take his phone calls.

"I call all the time but I never get through," a wildly frustrated Abercrombie tells the Sleuth.

Abercrombie, an old friend of Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) parents -- they went to graduate school together at the University of Hawaii -- proudly claims to be the first member of Congress who endorsed Obama for president. But he says he and other Obama surrogates in the House are fed up with the campaign constantly ignoring them.

"We're seen as people who don't know much about politics. We only manage to get elected every other year," he griped. "It's not like I'm Mr. Know It All, but..."

Pick up the phone, Chicago! Here's a dose of what you'll hear:

On Obama's opposition to a gas tax holiday, Abercrombie says "Don't belittle people who are looking to save twenty-five, fifty or a hundred bucks. Don't give them the impression you're belittling them."

"People want to hear what you're going to do for them. Senator Clinton is doing that," he says.

His biggest beef about Obama's campaign style: "He's got to get away from lectures and essays and start hammering home his message to voters. This is not Denzel Washington in the 'Great Debaters.'"

And another thing: "Stop this business of trying to get hold of the Indiana superdelegates. You've got to win these states! You've got to put a message out there!"

Basically, for you Obama campaign officials who aren't picking up the phone when the Hawaii congressman calls (ahem, David Axelrod), Abercrombie thinks you mainlanders are on the verge of corrupting Obama's ki, his center of being.

And take it from Abercrombie - he knew little Barry Obama from the time he was born in Honolulu.

"You've got to get back to how you were raised. You come from Hawaii," Abercrombie told the Sleuth, hoping to get his message across to the people who won't listen to him.

Abercrombie says if Obama would just remember from whence he came, then maybe he wouldn't be having half as hard a time as he is getting beyond the controversy with his provocative former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright. "Remember the Aloha spirit," says Abercrombie, "that means diversity defines us rather than divides us."

Obama has written two books:

One about his father

One about and inspired by Wright.

It tells you the close relation between the two.

Obama has no credential other than "Speech" and "Writting". Media has to focus to "Writting" as his "Speech" continues to "change" again and again.

In Obama's writing he has expressed support for "black theology" promoted by Wright. They are one and same in philosophy, one tells the truth, Obama does not.

Clinton has to stay in until August.

Obama has deligate lead for less than 10 weeks and it is crumbling under Media scrutiny.

Cliton has to find out if Obama becomes non viable by end of August

Obama should realize and question his own idiotic supporters like Kennedy and Kerry, why didn't they change Washington, before he promises change to his other idiotic supporters still dependent on their parents and others milking on their race.

How comes MCCain and even Clinton is the continuation of what is there in Washinton now, and Kenedy and Kerry's support is not?

Obama is a racist, why would he listen to or answer the phone calls of Abercombie, he already has backing of Big Cahuna Farrakhan, Old Uncle Wright, and first time proud of America angry wife. Who needs enemies with friends like these.

I just wish the voters see the light about or the darkness of this Snake Charmer.

The gas tax holiday is a give away to big oil. The consumer will see little or nothing and more than likely fuel prices will rise as a result.

Facts are a stubborn thing. Obama cannot close his 20 year old relationship with Wright because there is so much video evidence against it. On the TV program THE VIEW, Obama declared that Reverend Wright accepted that his views of America were inappropriate and mischaracterized, that his words had offended many people. Then weeks later Wright goes on a national Hate America Tour? This was either a blatant lie; Obama using clever semantics to avoid the main issue. Or worse, Obama was fooled by Wright which is kind of scary. That a possible next president can be played by a character such as Wright. Check the video evidence yourselves.

This isn't so much a comment on the blog as it is for the comments already posted. Apparently Im delusional if I prefer Obama over Clinton, or McCain (though I would vote for Clinton if she were to get the nomination). The comments above/below in my opinion are not reflective of the Barack Obama I have learned about in the last five years. Not only do I believe in the possibilities of change that Obama can bring, but Obama inspires me to become involved and change this country for the better. He is an admirable, respectful, highly intelligent public servant. His ideas in foreign policy are long overdue. His domestic ideas aren't that different from Clinton's, but I agree more with his healthcare plan, and more recently his opposition to the holiday gas tac breaks. I believe in his ability to change, more so that Clinton's change of only the last 8 years. Obama's coalition of supports does not only include blacks and the 18-30 crowd, it involves older voters, women, men, christian, jews, muslims, true blue democrats, independents, and a few republicans/conservatives. We are not delusional, we just prefer him over the usual political gamers.

Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Dick Durbin. You make us all proud.

On behalf of the great state of Illinois, crossroads of a nation, Land of Lincoln, let me express my deepest gratitude for the privilege of addressing this convention.

Tonight is a particular honor for me because, let's face it, my presence on this stage is pretty unlikely. My father was a foreign student, born and raised in a small village in Kenya. He grew up herding goats, went to school in a tin-roof shack. His father -- my grandfather -- was a cook, a domestic servant to the British.

But my grandfather had larger dreams for his son. Through hard work and perseverance my father got a scholarship to study in a magical place, America, that shone as a beacon of freedom and opportunity to so many who had come before.

While studying here, my father met my mother. She was born in a town on the other side of the world, in Kansas. Her father worked on oil rigs and farms through most of the Depression. The day after Pearl Harbor my grandfather signed up for duty; joined Patton's army, marched across Europe. Back home, my grandmother raised a baby and went to work on a bomber assembly line. After the war, they studied on the G.I. Bill, bought a house through F.H.A., and later moved west all the way to Hawaii in search of opportunity.

And they, too, had big dreams for their daughter. A common dream, born of two continents.

My parents shared not only an improbable love, they shared an abiding faith in the possibilities of this nation. They would give me an African name, Barack, or "blessed," believing that in a tolerant America your name is no barrier to success. They imagined -- They imagined me going to the best schools in the land, even though they weren't rich, because in a generous America you don't have to be rich to achieve your potential.

They're both passed away now. And yet, I know that on this night they look down on me with great pride.

They stand here -- And I stand here today, grateful for the diversity of my heritage, aware that my parents' dreams live on in my two precious daughters. I stand here knowing that my story is part of the larger American story, that I owe a debt to all of those who came before me, and that, in no other country on earth, is my story even possible.

Tonight, we gather to affirm the greatness of our Nation -- not because of the height of our skyscrapers, or the power of our military, or the size of our economy. Our pride is based on a very simple premise, summed up in a declaration made over two hundred years ago:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

That is the true genius of America, a faith -- a faith in simple dreams, an insistence on small miracles; that we can tuck in our children at night and know that they are fed and clothed and safe from harm; that we can say what we think, write what we think, without hearing a sudden knock on the door; that we can have an idea and start our own business without paying a bribe; that we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution, and that our votes will be counted -- at least most of the time.

This year, in this election we are called to reaffirm our values and our commitments, to hold them against a hard reality and see how we're measuring up to the legacy of our forbearers and the promise of future generations.

And fellow Americans, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, I say to you tonight: We have more work to do -- more work to do for the workers I met in Galesburg, Illinois, who are losing their union jobs at the Maytag plant that's moving to Mexico, and now are having to compete with their own children for jobs that pay seven bucks an hour; more to do for the father that I met who was losing his job and choking back the tears, wondering how he would pay 4500 dollars a month for the drugs his son needs without the health benefits that he counted on; more to do for the young woman in East St. Louis, and thousands more like her, who has the grades, has the drive, has the will, but doesn't have the money to go to college.

Now, don't get me wrong. The people I meet -- in small towns and big cities, in diners and office parks -- they don't expect government to solve all their problems. They know they have to work hard to get ahead, and they want to. Go into the collar counties around Chicago, and people will tell you they don't want their tax money wasted, by a welfare agency or by the Pentagon. Go in -- Go into any inner city neighborhood, and folks will tell you that government alone can't teach our kids to learn; they know that parents have to teach, that children can't achieve unless we raise their expectations and turn off the television sets and eradicate the slander that says a black youth with a book is acting white. They know those things.

People don't expect -- People don't expect government to solve all their problems. But they sense, deep in their bones, that with just a slight change in priorities, we can make sure that every child in America has a decent shot at life, and that the doors of opportunity remain open to all.

They know we can do better. And they want that choice.

In this election, we offer that choice. Our Party has chosen a man to lead us who embodies the best this country has to offer. And that man is John Kerry.

John Kerry understands the ideals of community, faith, and service because they've defined his life. From his heroic service to Vietnam, to his years as a prosecutor and lieutenant governor, through two decades in the United States Senate, he's devoted himself to this country. Again and again, we've seen him make tough choices when easier ones were available.

His values and his record affirm what is best in us. John Kerry believes in an America where hard work is rewarded; so instead of offering tax breaks to companies shipping jobs overseas, he offers them to companies creating jobs here at home.

John Kerry believes in an America where all Americans can afford the same health coverage our politicians in Washington have for themselves.

John Kerry believes in energy independence, so we aren't held hostage to the profits of oil companies, or the sabotage of foreign oil fields.

John Kerry believes in the Constitutional freedoms that have made our country the envy of the world, and he will never sacrifice our basic liberties, nor use faith as a wedge to divide us.

And John Kerry believes that in a dangerous world war must be an option sometimes, but it should never be the first option.

You know, a while back -- awhile back I met a young man named Shamus in a V.F.W. Hall in East Moline, Illinois. He was a good-looking kid -- six two, six three, clear eyed, with an easy smile. He told me he'd joined the Marines and was heading to Iraq the following week. And as I listened to him explain why he'd enlisted, the absolute faith he had in our country and its leaders, his devotion to duty and service, I thought this young man was all that any of us might ever hope for in a child.

But then I asked myself, "Are we serving Shamus as well as he is serving us?"

I thought of the 900 men and women -- sons and daughters, husbands and wives, friends and neighbors, who won't be returning to their own hometowns. I thought of the families I've met who were struggling to get by without a loved one's full income, or whose loved ones had returned with a limb missing or nerves shattered, but still lacked long-term health benefits because they were Reservists.

When we send our young men and women into harm's way, we have a solemn obligation not to fudge the numbers or shade the truth about why they're going, to care for their families while they're gone, to tend to the soldiers upon their return, and to never ever go to war without enough troops to win the war, secure the peace, and earn the respect of the world.

Now -- Now let me be clear. Let me be clear. We have real enemies in the world. These enemies must be found. They must be pursued. And they must be defeated. John Kerry knows this. And just as Lieutenant Kerry did not hesitate to risk his life to protect the men who served with him in Vietnam, President Kerry will not hesitate one moment to use our military might to keep America safe and secure.

John Kerry believes in America. And he knows that it's not enough for just some of us to prosper -- for alongside our famous individualism, there's another ingredient in the American saga, a belief that we're all connected as one people. If there is a child on the south side of Chicago who can't read, that matters to me, even if it's not my child. If there is a senior citizen somewhere who can't pay for their prescription drugs, and having to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it's not my grandparent. If there's an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties.

It is that fundamental belief -- It is that fundamental belief: I am my brother's keeper. I am my sister's keeper that makes this country work. It's what allows us to pursue our individual dreams and yet still come together as one American family.

E pluribus unum: "Out of many, one."

Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us -- the spin masters, the negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of "anything goes." Well, I say to them tonight, there is not a liberal America and a conservative America -- there is the United States of America. There is not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America -- there's the United States of America.

The pundits, the pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I've got news for them, too. We worship an "awesome God" in the Blue States, and we don't like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and yes, we've got some gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.

In the end -- In the end -- In the end, that's what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or do we participate in a politics of hope?

John Kerry calls on us to hope. John Edwards calls on us to hope.

I'm not talking about blind optimism here -- the almost willful ignorance that thinks unemployment will go away if we just don't think about it, or the health care crisis will solve itself if we just ignore it. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about something more substantial. It's the hope of slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs; the hope of immigrants setting out for distant shores; the hope of a young naval lieutenant bravely patrolling the Mekong Delta; the hope of a millworker's son who dares to defy the odds; the hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too.

Hope -- Hope in the face of difficulty. Hope in the face of uncertainty. The audacity of hope!

In the end, that is God's greatest gift to us, the bedrock of this nation. A belief in things not seen. A belief that there are better days ahead.

I believe that we can give our middle class relief and provide working families with a road to opportunity.

I believe we can provide jobs to the jobless, homes to the homeless, and reclaim young people in cities across America from violence and despair.

I believe that we have a righteous wind at our backs and that as we stand on the crossroads of history, we can make the right choices, and meet the challenges that face us.

America! Tonight, if you feel the same energy that I do, if you feel the same urgency that I do, if you feel the same passion that I do, if you feel the same hopefulness that I do -- if we do what we must do, then I have no doubt that all across the country, from Florida to Oregon, from Washington to Maine, the people will rise up in November, and John Kerry will be sworn in as President, and John Edwards will be sworn in as Vice President, and this country will reclaim its promise, and out of this long political darkness a brighter day will come.

Abercrombie sounds like another Wright. He wants the spotlight and willing to take his friend down in the process. This story is poorly written and in NO WAY represents who Barack Obama is. The man is killing himself trying to become President so that we can all have a better life and people like the Mary Ann Akers and Mr Abercrombie are determined to take all that hard work and kick him in the stomach for it. This is all because they want some limelight. SICKENING!

you Hill supporters are incredible.
Fact : Obama maintains a 150 delagate lead that is near possible to overcome.
Fact : Obama has gain more superdelegates then Hill since Pennsylvania, so much for the tide.
Fact : Everybody but Hillary and McCain thinks the gas tax is a bad idea.
Fact : Obama has more elected offical experience, grassroots experience then Hillary
Fact : Hill is pandering admit it, and Ambercrombie knows this and telling Barack that he should use his roots to prove he is the real deal.
Fact : Hillary gaffe on Manequinch is symbolic of what she'll do as President.
Fact : Obama is not divisive, his supporters will support any democrat in the general, Hillary supporters won't make that commitment because she has spent this election cycle demonizing Obama.

How come nobody has thought to ask the other 8,000 members of Trinity Church why they stayed so long? Do you think 8,000 people, many very highly educated, many also white, could be as misled as you say Barack Obama was? Or have the same poor judgment as you say he has? Well then it seems he is not much different from the average person, eh --- perhaps not so much of an elitist as we thought! And come to think of it, not much different from the millions that stayed in churches pastored Jerry Falwell, John Hagee, Rod Parsley, the Catholics and Mormons.

Fact: Rev Martin Luther King Jr. civil rights leader was a "black liberation theology" reverend.
Fact: Catholic church adopts and amends Black Liberation Theology to fight social injustice, and defend the oppressed
Fact: Hillary claims Lyndon Baines Johnson is more responsible for the civil rights act then Martin Luther King Jr.
Fact: Hillary will say anything and do anything to win, even trashing Dr. King.

But John Hagee is worse. He is the closest thing I've seen to a christian terrorist. Let him speak for himself. "Death is better then compromise." What kind of BS is that.

What's it called when the news papers rail about Obama not wearing a flag lapel pin and neither one of the other two remaining candidates wear one? The other one being right on stage with Charles Gibson while he asks Obama the question. Why didn't he ask Clinton. What about the preachers in the other candidates background? Why does Obama have to pass some kind of special test to get their approval?

Obama will be stronger candidate for going through with Wright now. By the time of general election supporters will be null by the controversy in the primary. Kerry lost because everybody assumed he was vetted and late breaking controversy ruined his chances. Hillary dirty laundry out-numbers Obama's and she added to the pile with the planting questions, lying, and mispeaking that plays to idea she is untrustworthy. Not to mention if she has to steal the election she faces the worse backlash of black voters. Black voters will not vote at all and Hillary will have little chance in the southern coastal states, and will have a problem in the big city areas where democrats have to win. If big cities fall so does the big states and so does her big state strategy. Latinos are the majority minority but not enough of them are in the big delegate states to swing elections. She needs the black vote to build upon that.

Obama didn't have a sense of entitlement. See pre Iowa the poll numbers saw a even 50-50 split between the two. What change the poll numbers was Iowa and Hillary statements in New Hampshire. Bill didn't say anything nobody knew already, but the Lyndon B. Johnson sent the black community over the wall. Obama only gave one statement on the issue quote "I think the statements were ill advised." He lock the black vote up with his concession speech in New Hampshire. Hillary lost a 16% point lead to narrowly win the state by 1%. Yet she claimed a comeback. After that black people learn Obama wasn't another Jesse Jackson and voted for him. A black female candidate also ran in 2004 she never got a large woman or black vote.

Barak [Barry] is no longer a "Black" candidate. He gave up that distinction when he became a senator. He is no a Democrat Elitist, way out of touch with the common man [& woman]. Demo-elitist don't care about anything but getting hold of the power seat [POTUS]. Then what? Liberal Socalism with no check and balances, especially after he/she adds new activist judges. Want to see what the future of the U.S. will be with a one party ruling, take a look at Hawaii. Taxes, taxes and more taxes and no leadership. Dems can't lead they just raise taxes and spend more than they take in.

Why are we even discussing this gas tax holiday issue. Hillary Clinton does not have the power to pass such a law to repeal the taxes. Congress does. And even if congress were to pass this law, it is certain to be vetoed by the president. So why don't Hillary just stop her bull and stop treating us like we are stupid.

All the republicans put forward since Regan have been traditional cheap rich people. Bushes oil money, McCain Old money, at least the Clintons were middle class at one point. Obama is somehow elitist because he once live on food stamps, or actually worked his way to the top, or work with people. Most elitist are afraid or think poor people are contagious. Reality check Paris Hilton is an elitist, Obama is not an elitist. When is the last time someone decided to brave being in debt to do something he felt was right. Civil Rights attorneys don't get pay as well as the corporate ones do.

Februrary 13 is the day the momentum shifted to Obama. It takes more then one victory to shift the momentum. Pennsylvania was one state. The colonist lost many battles before winning the war. Hillary may win a battle or two but she has lost the war.

If Hillary is so adamant about a Gas Holiday Tax, why doesn't she get legislators together to write it and send it before Congress?

The gas-tax holidy harkens back to Tammany Hall days when electors were plied with jobs, drink and staright bribes. It is a new low level to which Senator Clinton has sunk.

Aside from the economic idiocy of the plan, there has been no attempt by either Senator McCain or Senator Clinton to introduce enabling legislation. Clinton is playing with money she doesn't have. There is absolutely no chance that the Congress or President Bush would approve such an initiative.

There is a much simpler solution: Introduce legislation that would scale the price of crude oil to its cost of acquisition. The lifting costs (production costs) of domestic conventional crude oil is about $8.50. By transfer pricing (using LIFO accounting) the oil companies charge themselves the world price, thus locating the profit in other countries or in their exploration & production units at inflated price (while being eligible for substantial subsidies, incentives and tax losses. Even foreign refined product acquired on the spot market is not acquired at world price.
The ignorance of how oil companies work is the great sin of the politicians.

A gas holiday is just an elitist ploy. Congress legislates taxes. Congress is a democrat stronghold. Democrat candidates [RINOs included] only propose actions thay can't possibly deliver to get the fools to vote for them. I wish I could see the look on the new POTUS when he or she get the POTUS National Security Brief the first time and see what the prize really is. The U.S will get the person it deserves.

I'm surprised to read Abercrombie went to grad school with Obama's parents. He leads people to believe his mother didn't do anything.

Obama only emphasizes that she was an unwed mother on food stamps. Lots of college kids made it with food stamps. This gives me a whole new perspective on how much Obama skirts the truth.

I can't believe someone commented here that Obama wrote a book about Wright. That is one of the most ignorant things I have heard yet. Have you read Audacity to Hope? It is nothing about Wright, not in any way shape or form. It is about Obama and his values and the way his mind works, and his belief in the constitution of the United States. Can't people at least check things out before they go spilling it all over blogs? for god's sake, get a grip!

I'll worry about what lies Obama may tell when he testifies as a witness only because he is granted IMMUNITY. If he then chooses to plead the 5th amendment dozens of times during his testimony; I will have to conclude he is quite untrustworthy and secretive and unworthy of public trust and public service.

A correction: Senator Obama's book called the "Audacity of Hope" is about his view and vision of the political process, how it can be changed and improved, and his experiences in politics in Illinois and in the US Senate. It is not, in any way, shape or form, about Reverend Wright. The hateful person who wrote that has clearly not read the book. Its a very good book; very insightful and inspiring.

The first book, Dreams from my Father, is not about his father but about Senator Obama learning about himself after growing up without a relationship with his African father, particularly in light of his African father clearly marking him as "black" or "African American" in a culture that labels because of the color of your skin. This book, if you have read it, is beautifully written (when he was in his early 30s); a lovely, explorative memoir.

I am grateful to have the chance to vote for someone for the office of President who is so thoughtful and authentic. He has made a personal journey that many people never do, and in the process has raised his emotional intelligence to a level that Clinton and McCain (and George W., the first Clinton, the first Bush and Reagan) never accomplished.

I am white, but I completely agree with the author of this article. Having been born in south central Louisiana, I've come face-to-face with racism, prejudice and intolerance practiced by my former white friends and neighbors. It's abhorrent to hear these people argue that there is no such thing as racism in America in the same breath they use to spread their ignorance and hatred. Believe me, I've got firsthand knowledge of what a majority of the white people in the south think about black people and it isn't pretty. Then, these hypocrites turn around and pretend to be the most fervent Christians on the face of the Earth. Well, I know that Jesus Christ would be appalled at the thinking of these people. And, I'm just happy I won't be in their shoes when they face their Maker. That also will not be pretty. But, until then, all that white people like me can do is try to make a difference by changing the thoughts and attitudes of the racist (black and white) in this country. By the way, I'll be voting for Barack Obama in the fall, if he's the Democratic nominee. If not, Hilary Clinton will get my vote. As far as I'm concerned, the GOP is about the worst racist organization in existence.

The polarized left and the polarized right won't determine the outcome of the election. Yes, heaven forbid that the American public was given a complicated discourse on energy or anything else for that matter. That way they can pull the wool over our eyes.

Ohhh wait, that already happened with Bush and apparently, some people want more of it. I'm tired of debates that lack nuance, or criticism of Obama because his arguments aren't necessarily simple. Guess what? Solutions to the mess we're in ARE NOT SIMPLE. Let's have an intellectual debate and those who don't get it will have an opportunity to elevate themselves.

It seems there are a lot of poorly informed people (I'm using the polite term here) that like to see there racist and misinformation on the web site. Is Obama a muslim? Any one who still believes that must be living on another planet. As a white person, I do not have trouble supporting a black man for President who offers REAL change to the way we do business in Washington. Some people like to paint with a broad brush anything a supporter (e.g., Kennedy or Kerry) says, or a former pastor says, as being the beliefs of Obama, but how many of us have good friends (or even family) with whom we have sharp differences?

Obama is his own person. People are using Wright as a scapegoat.
This is a challenge between Obama and Hillary Clinton (not Bill), and the past and the future. Many people won't admit they are a little uncomfortable with the idea of Obama and really, it has little to do with Wright.

Take a real close look. Obama has gifts to offer America, ones that include policy, but more importantly, leadership.

"Audacity of Hope": Obama told us how inspirational Wright was and how Wright inspired him for 20 years and converted him to Christianity, wedded him, baptized his children, etc. Now we find out

1. Wright is black KKK leader
2. Wright vouched to Obama's Christianity
3. Wright preached hatred towards American for 20 years
4. Wright believes Mr. Obama is just another politician
5. Wright says Obama had him in the basement to hide him from public view right before he announced his candidacy

Obama's only achievement is his writing. He does not have any other solid achievement in his life. If his writing is turning out to be based on false premises, how do we believe this man?

What does Oprah has to say about Obama's writings :-)

The USA has sold its soul to the devil (GWBush) in order to have a little more safety and a little more money in our pockets. Well, we're paying for it now and it's on the backs of the middle class.

I will vote for either Democratic candidate in November. I live in AZ and I guarantee you haven't heard the dirt on McCain yet, but you will.

I am white and have gone to church all my life. But I certainly don't believe everything that comes over the pulpit. Not any more than I believe everything I read in the newspaper (or on the internet).

Please, use a little critical thinking. My pastor doesn't control my mind and we disagree on lots of things; and I still love him. There is one thing we agree on (and it's the one critical thing); that Jesus is the son of God. The rest is opinions and everyboy's got one. They don't all have to agree with me (or I with them) for us to be friends. (I even have some friends who are Republicans! and some who don't believe in God!)

So think about it before you rush to judgement... and GO OBAMA 2008!!!!

Can't u make money any other way? How about reporting on the rising number of soldiers that were killed during April in Iraq. Is loss of life defending oil the US is trying to get its hands on in Iraq less important than Rev. Wright? People are dissing Obama over the gas holiday flap caused by Hillary. You know what 30 cents a day on gas rebate doesn't spend at the grocery store. Congress and the President have to enact a law to get a price break for gas. McCain tried to pass a gas holiday bill and it was voted down by his own people, so don't blame Obama. Just keep on harboring the same racists views about Obama, in the meantime nothing gets done. You're left homeless, hungry and unable to go to work or find work all for 30 cents per day. We need another stimulus check (real dollars-not cents) in addition to the check that is in the mail.

Is the comment, "This is not Denzel Washington in the 'Great Debaters.'", the comment of the the writer Mary Ann Akers or the comment of Rep. Abercrombie? If it is Rep. Abercrombie's comment then perhaps comments and comparisons like that are the reason his phone calls go unreturned? Either way if it is Ms. Akers or the Congressman's it reminds me of the Bill Clinton's comparison of Senator Obama and the Rev. Jessie Jackson. Why is it that Mr. Obama has to constantly BE compared to this black person or that black person. Why not compare him to Abraham Lincon or some other white man? Simple. It is the COVERT RACISM that many in white America like to deny. They only want to acknowledge OVERT RACISM. If there is not a sign that states, "NO BLACKS ALLOWED" then it is not racist. Even though no blacks have ever been allowed and they prevent blacks from entering the premises by making up reasons of why they cannot enter, as long as they don't say, "NO BLACKS ALLOWED", THEN IT IS NOT RACIST. WRONG!

Also stating that he is an elitist because of who is some of his supporters are is code for, "THAT NEGRO HAS GOTTON OUT OF HIS PLACE." Senator Obama has supporter from all spectrums. For instance when the press states he has to win the working class voters, what they really mean is the white working class voters. Most of the Blacks that support Obama are working class. But somehow because they are black they cannot also be catogarized as working class. Although he has chose to be called African American/Black he was raised by a white mother, grandmother, and grandfather. Since their perspective is that of a white person, he was taught from their perspective. It was his experiece with the way the people in the United States treated him that made it necessary for him and others who are bi-racial to chose their race as AfricanAmerican or Black.

For those whites who are worried about electing a "Black" man because because of his race maybe he does not understand them their ways, or is too different from them, you would think that the fact that those who parented Senator Obama were white would help to quell their fears. But for many they cannot fathom voting for anyone but someone who looks to be a 100% white person. (WHATEVER THAT IS) Who can really tell their racial background? This is sad. But what is promising is that there are others who do not feel this way. Many young white peopl seem to have gotten past this or never had it in the first place. "THAT IS ONE OF THE CHANGES THAT WE CAN BELIEVE IN.

Rep. Abercrombie is wrong to try to persuade Senator Obama to change his position on the gas tax. The gas tax is pandering and $30 savings will not be realized. I thank Mr. Obama for not pandering to the voters or trying to trick me into voting for him for 30 pieces of silver.

When people seek office they put themselves out there for the people to vote for them. Part of who Senator Obama is a Law Professor. As such he might tend to look at and analyze things from all sides and perhaps even appear to be lecturing somewhat. I think he is trying to look at the matters from more than one viewpoint and to ask others to do the same. I personally, like that style. It surely is 1000000% better than who and what we have now as a President.

If I could change any one thing about the way Senator Obama has run his campaign, I would have had him refuse to get in the game of denying, denouncing, or separating himself from what others do or say. When the press first asked him about Farakan, he sould have told them he was not responsible for for the things Minister Farakan or any other person said or did and he would not denounce or deny Farakan or any other person. Then he should have stuck to it.

I belong to the Methodist Church. The members have the right to ask the Bishop to remove our minister. Whe I was younger, I left the a church because I did not agree with the minister's teaching, later in life I was part of a group that had several ministers removed. NOw in my 50's I have learned that the minster is not GOD and not the church. The Church is people. I don't have to and nor do I agree with my minister on many ocassions but I will not leave my church nor would I seek to have the minister revoved again. If my minster always says just what I want to hear, is he really doing his job? What if the others in the church want to hear something different? Should not sermons be thought provoking?

As to the made up issue of Rev. Wright. What ever happened to separation of church and state? Is that not what our Country was founded on?

Is the Umited States so perfect that we have not commited sins against others. Did we not bomb innocent people in other countries such Lybia. Every since I can remember in my church they taught, "As you sow so shall you reap. And you shall reap in double portions." I was also taught that Cities and Societies were punished by God because of their sins. Therefore is it really so hard to believe that a minister would believe that America had treated not only other people and nations wrong but African American in this country wrong and as such American had to reap what they sowed? You may not believe it but their are plenty of others that do believe American has done wrong and will be and is being punished for it the guilty and innocent alike. This includes white ministers that have said AIDS was a punishment from God for our wicked ways. Also there are many that still attend the Catholic Church after all the children wer sexually molested and the Catholic Church help to cover it up. What is worse molesting a child or saying God Damed America? I would say molesting the child.

This guilt by association is ridiculous. Rev. Wright and Senator Obama are not conjoined twins sharing a brain. They are two individuals. Just because Rev. Wright said it does not mean Senator Obama believes it or agrees with it. It also does not mean he so weak minded that he could not still attend the church and agree with the minister on some things and disagree witht he minister on others. As a bi-racial child who has lived in some other parts of the world he has had to straddle two cultures all of his life. As a law professor he has had to teach and argue both sides of an issue. As an the State Senator he has had to caucaus and work with those with vastly different idea than his own. As the US Senator from Illinois he has had to sit down with a member of Congress who profess to be a former Klansman-Senator Byrd. Yet I have not heard anyone suggest that Senator Obama should leave the congress or not talk to Senator Byrd.

Since so many like to use Dr. MLK speach about judging people by the content of their character/actions and not the color of their skin, why is not Senator Obama afforded this opportunity.

To those who say that for Obama to have Wright as his minister for so long marrying him and baptising his children and therefore he must agree with him, "What has Senator Obama done to make you think that he believes the very exact same as Rev.Wright. Name one thing that Senator Obama has done against America? You cannot because he has not. He has educated himself and then turned down monetary gain to help his community. He took a stand against the war when it was not popular. He admittedly grew up without much religious guidance but yet sought to join a church. With his educational background he could have attempted to remove his family and himself from the Southside of Chicago but he stays in the neighborhood he has sought to help. He was the 1st Black Editor of the Harvard Law Review when others, the 3rd Black US. Senator since Reconstruction and while in the Illinois State Senate made friends with those on both sides of the isle and those reprsenting the big cities and rural towns and no one has come up with anything the Senator Obama has done that is anti AMERICAN. Instead he ahs continue to try to unite American and to serve his country inside the Legilative and now the Executive Brances of our US Government.

We now can chose to believe he is who he says he is based on his record of not just in the US Senate but as a citizen State Elected Official (That is where you reall have the citizens reach out and touch you for hel) and what he ahs promised us or we can vote for the Billary Clinton the great liars and watch John McCain try to keep us in Iraq for another 100 years.

Senator Clinton is as big a liar as her husban with I though was impossible, She LIED (not made a mistake) about being in a combat situation, she lied about Michigan and Florida, she lied about why she voted for the war (W's approval ratingw were about 86-90% then and she was too much of a coward to vote correctly even though 21 Democratic Senator and 1 Republican Senator voted NO),she changes her position to pander to whatever she thinks will get her a vote. Her husband as President embarrsed the entire US with his frat boy sexual behavior with Monica, perjury, having his law license revokled, Jennifer Flower, Paula, White Water, Vince Foster, ..... yet he has had enough nerve to criticize Obama. Senator Obama has shown much self control not to re-air all of the Clinton's dirty laudry. The Republicans will not be so kind. I can just see a look a like Monica following Clinton around with a Blue Dress with a stain on it, pointing hher finger and saying, I did not have inappropriate sexual contact with that woman.

It is time for Obama to go on the offensive against the belittling insults from the Clinton twins.
The Clintons, perhaps the most conniving, lying, scandalous politicians to ever reach the White House should not be allowed there again.

The Clintons background from Arkansas to Washington has been one of scandals from the beginning, one of which even caused the suicide of one of their close associates.

Then, there is the matter of a one million dollars donation to Hillary''''s campaign by indicted donor Norman Hsu. The money had to be returned.
Sound familiar.

Barry is a nickname for Barak. My aunt still calls me "Stevie" even though my name is actually Steven. I call my brother "Ug" even though his name is James. It's just a nickname, but they can be confusing. Remember how they called JFK "Jack" ? I was just a kid then and I was very confused.

Obama's mother and father met in grad school at the University of Hawaii and they were married...neither Obama nor his half sister were illegitimate. Obama's mom divorced his father and married her second husband who fathered the half sister. If every issue trumpeted by Senator Clinton were on an exam for a course in Constitutional Law to be identified as either the responsibility (A) of the Congress or (B) of the Presidency, 98% would be correctly listed as (A) of the Congress. Clinton may be running for President, but she's all about matters that are the business of Congress. Her health-care plan should have been the subject of her work within the Senate, for example, where it could have benefited from multiple minds/staffs and gone through the appropriate tug and pull to become a possibility. She could have helped to draft a bill, which could have become a law. That's the democratic way. Trying to shove a massive policy onto the country by fiat as President is NOT the approach scripted by our Constitution. (John Edwards, too, should have stayed in the Senate and patiently worked to push his policy solutions.)

Consider, too, how she frames her credentials. On the stump she presents herself as the person who can create solutions to problems faced by individual citizens. Doesn't that sound like somebody who thinks of herself as elected to represent a voter or a group of voters with a particular grievance? E.g., "You don't like the price of gas? I'll force the government to lower the price for you, Consumer-voter."

She may say that she really, really wants to become President. But her words and actions and campaign tell me that she really, really thinks like a member of Congress. She reminds me of a skillful center midfielder who decides that she'd rather become the team's goalkeeper because she likes that position's glory more than the anonymity of a midfielder. She's pushing the rest of us hard to like her so much we'll elect her Goalkeeper, even though her skills are all at midfield.

In contrast, Senator Obama frames his candidacy in terms of what it will take to revitalize our country as a representative democracy. On the stump he talks of getting citizens to take back their country from the lobbyists who have filled the vacuum left by silent citizens. His chant "Yes We Can" is telling people that the country is theirs to direct if they will get active and assume the responsibility of citizens. He's all about encouraging us to do what we citizens must do to make the Constitutionally-separate powers function as a representational democracy.

News analysts keep fussing that he isn't giving details about his policies, but, in fact, a President shouldn't be promising policies that can only happen from new laws that must be enacted by Congress. Congress writes our laws; the President's authority is limited to administrative rules & processes scripted to turn Congress' laws into something workable.

The President is supposed to be a good administrator who will appoint qualified people to supervise all the myriad parts of our federal government. The President should be well-educated (Obama is), articulate (Obama is), inclusive/aware of the disparate needs of citizenry across the country (Obama is), experienced in working well with other people (Obama is) and have the ability to represent our country with cunning and dignity and savvy vis-a-vis our allies and foes (Obama does).

After 8 years of Cheney/Bush's over-the-top perversions of the Presidency, the USA desperately needs a President who thoroughly understands and values the Constitutional limitations & powers of the Presidency. Let's elect the one candidate who has taught Constitutional Law & who will know why Guantanamo Bay is wrong; why eliminating habeus corpus is wrong; why letting government agents spy on citizens without first getting court approval is wrong; why nepotism is wrong; why torturing suspects is wrong even if a hired assistant Attorney General writes a memo to the contrary;.........

Why do I read these comments. Bad for the heart, bad for the head! These comments started with someone describing Obama's books. Granted, we do not have a recent experience with Presidents who can read, let along write, a book! It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.

Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her Pennsylvania victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources.

But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.

Hillary Clinton say's that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.

Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton's have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.

If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.

Hillary has more votes if you count Florida and Michigan... two states where Obama:
a) was not on the ticket, or
b) did not campaign

These two states, whose votes don't count at this point because they did not play by the rules that were agreed upon by the Democratic Party months ahead of time, are votes which HRC would like to count.

That's why she can say she got more votes than Obama. Because she's counting votes from two states where Obama (and Hillary) promised not to campaign because they broke the rules. I guess one of the candidates had her fingers crossed when she made that promise.

Hillary Clinton can do NOTHING about a gas tax holiday. Sounds like a good idea to the under educated, white, boomer ladies whom the exit polls say is her main backers.

Why doesn't she propose such a tax holiday in the Senate and get it passed. Because she can't get it passed, ever. But she sure can pander the idea to the voters.

By the way, the judge in the Clinton fraud trial, ruled that she does not have to file a deposition until after the election, and then told her defense attorney, to say "hi to Bill". Look it up.

tax holiday. It is very apparent that in his world of plenty he has lost touch with
those of us who struggle with just about everything but most of all the rising fuel
cost. His argument is that if indeed Hillary' gas tax holiday gets passed, then people will just drive more and run up the

know we'll have to vacation at home or close to home, because we can't afford the
food, lodging, and entertainment costs that

It sounds Mr. Abercrombie is some paparazzi who was being "ignored" by a celebrity on the way home. "Oh my God, how could he ignore me? I'm so fan of him. It's unbelievable I used to know him."

I was super insulted when I heard this proposal because it's not $30 one time deal but rather $2/wk on the expense of our roads, highways, etc. And she wants to get the money from oil companies????? Took me a few days to realize why Obama didn't support a lifting of the gas tax, that it probably would not make for a like amount of reduction at the pump. In other words the price still keeps going up while you read in the papers of record, windfall, never seen before profits by the oil companies. Companies say they need profits for exploration, but to the rest of us it looks like arrogance. Apparently the government can't prove a monopoly, at best possibly signs of a wink and a nod between companies that everybody wins (in their world). Eventually, however, a price freeze could be imposed due to an economic emergency, ala Nixon.

Please calm down! I am no Politician but I know one thing for sure! This election is not only about electing a President for the United States of America!
This election is not about putting a woman in command for the first time in the white house!
This election is not about putting a black man in command for the first time in the white house!
This election is not about Clinton, Obama or MCCain's ambition to become president!
This election is definitely not voting Democrat or Republicans!

It is way beyond all that!

I'll tell you what this election is about:

• This election is about maintaining cohesion, unity, and vision to the core United States of America
• This election is about the future leadership stand of the United States of America in the world.
• This election is about proving to the world that the US is still capable of maintaining and economical and moral lead in the world.
• This election is about instilling a global vision of Security, Peace, leadership and Respect of the US to the World.
• This election is about showing to ourselves that we can stand together as "One Nation, indivisible with Liberty and justice for all".

As of now, we're just proving to the world that some other nation has to emerge and take the lead.
We have no economical lead in the world, no moral values whatsoever (look at our politicians! Our leaders! Lies seem to prevail everywhere and all times!) We cannot move beyond the inexistent boundaries of colors, gender, bias, division and racism! We insulting our own flag every morning! "One nation under God, indivisible with Liberty and Justice for all" Who exactly are we lying to...God? Ourselves? Our kids can't even say the name of "God" in a public school! We can't say it either in any Government's office? Who's lying to whom here? We surely are one nation under something somehow, but it is definitely not GOD! None of these lies can be assimilated to GOD's Ways!!!

I have very good reasons to believe that our Nation is in one deep, and dirty self made pit and we're not even close to getting out of it with the way we're managing it all together. We seriously need to make some real reforms here in what we profess, the way we live, the way we value GOD in our Country, the way we show respect to others and their belief system, the way we value our nation as whole.

I can only pray and hope that tomorrow will be better than today. America does need to reinvent itself in order to survive or to lead in this new century.

The Sleuth is nothing that a spin machine of Hillary and Bill. If Rep Abercrombie is not getting his calls answered I am sure he knows of other ways to get in touch with Senator Obama. Telling the TRUTH is more GODLY than just saying anything to get elected. The real problem is that WHITE AMERICA has to come to the realization that things are changing in this country. Hillary is saying that if you violate the rules you should be rewarded, this is typical of the Bush administration and is also common whit the Clintons. Florida and Michigan knew the consequences of their violation of the DNC rules. Now that she is behind, she wants them included. I find it interesting that the Old Hawian family friend has trouble makeing contact with Senator Obama. I have had questions on special education and other issues which Senator Obama or his staff has addressed when I have contacted his office. I find it a little difficult to believe a voter from the Senators home state has an easier time contacting the Senator than an old family friend. I guess it is easyier for me. I have never felt belittled by the Senator. I have only felt encouraged.

(If this "story us true) then this: I see why the Obama camp doesn't want to talk to a downer person who needs to run his own campaign and not Obama's. The writer of this article needs to get a job.

No wonder the Obama camp ignores Rep. Abercrombie - he doesn't have anything intelligent to say. I'll send Abercrombie a quarter and tell him to call somebody who cares.

I am a 53 year old african american I never thought I could be suprised by much of anything from which side of the street I was born on. To see how a half black and white man who lived and followed the rules that you can achieve anything you want in America (oops) unless you decide I want to be president I have never seen to parties unite to destroy one man who had the audasity to hope.
