Obama's Vice Presidential Pick Is Already Staffed

If you're one of those political junkies who can hardly bear the anxiety of waiting for Barack Obama to choose his vice presidential running mate, think of how David Wade and Chris Mather feel.

They're among a handful of Democratic political aides from Washington who have packed their bags and moved to Obama's campaign headquarters in Chicago to work for... well, they don't know yet. (Though we expect they'll find out this week, and certainly before next Wednesday, when the Democratic vice presidential nominee is scheduled to speak at the party's convention in Denver.)

Wade, a longtime aide to Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), was hired last month to be the traveling press secretary for the eventual vice presidential running mate. Mather, who most recently served as political director of the labor union coalition Change to Win, will assume the same position for the spouse of Obama's mysterious No. 2. (Mather, it should be noted, is also president of Steak Club, which boasts a roster of nerdy Washington insiders.)

Wade and Mather and others were hired by Patti Solis Doyle, who was ousted as campaign manager of Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign and later joined the Obama team to head up the presumptive nominee's vice presidential effort. Others who have been hired to work for the as-yet unnamed Democratic running mate include:

- Ricki Seidman, a battle-tested veteran who ran Bill Clinton's 1992 War Room and worked in the Clinton White House; She'll be the communications director for the veep pick.

- Kathleen McGlynn, who was chief of staff to former senator John Edwards (D-N.C.) during his 2008 presidential run; She will be the No. 2's deputy chief of staff. (McGlynn's father is mayor of Medford, Mass.)

- Leslie Miller, who was the Obama campaign's spokeswoman in New Hampshire; She'll be communications director for the vice presidential nominee's spouse.

Now all they need is a boss.

Their hiring - before Obama has even chosen his running mate - underscores the Obama campaign's highly disciplined, tightly controlled approach to message. (And this way, the Obama campaign hopes to stave off the kind of tension that developed between the Kerry and Edwards staffs in 2004, when Edwards brought most of his key aides with him to the campaign.)

And it sounds as if the Mystery No. 2's staff-in-waiting really has no clue yet who they'll be working for. As our colleague David Broder wrote in his Sunday column, Doyle is "flying blind."

Wade tells the Sleuth this cart-before-the-horse arrangement really isn't as weird as it may seem. "For eight years we've had a vice president who stayed in undisclosed locations. Trust me, it's already change we can believe in -- it's just the next vice president's identity that's undisclosed."

would be nice to hear back from the campaign. this congressional staffer and 3 time applicant 5 time volunteer has yet to hear back from them.

I too contacted the campaign regarding positions, even a volunteer position and they did not have the decency to send a "got your app" notification. Pretty poor.

Fascinating. So Obama will be picking a guy who will be relegated to an accessory from Day One. Why am I not surprised that the last thing he will do is pick someone without a trace of independence? This is why there was never any doubt in any campaign insider's mind that Hillary would ever be VP. And also why she fought so hard against him, she knew there was no room in the Obama Organization for her.

The Obama Cult of Personality would never allow another personality to exist within the all-about-Obama organization.

Good one Anon. Does anyone seriously believe that Hillary Clinton would be a good pick for VP? She is extremely polarizing, and would provide the McCain campaign with all the sound bites they need by just culling her comments from the primaries. Sen. Obama needs someone experienced in foreign policy and/or running a state or corporation. Joe Biden would be good.

Oooooohhhhhh!! Change we can believe in! I have news for you! #1. - The only change you're going to see if Obama gets elected, is a big change, upwards, in your federal income tax withholoding on your paycheck. He isn't fooling anybody! Experience? None! Just hyped-up speeches and charisma is all he has to offer. I see through all the hoopla, and Obama doesn't deserve to be P.O.T.U.S..

Note to Sparks and Bayes: Before I could even consider your comments regarding who would be the best VP choice, I had to shake off my frustration from your incorrect use of the English language. Gentlemen, the word solidist refers to a person who aligns themself to the doctrine that refers all diseases to morbid changes to solid parts of the body. Pleease!!! If your views are to be taken seriously, write intelligently! Then, maybe your opinion(s) that Sam Nunn or Joe Biden would be the MOST SOLID picks would be understood. Yeesh!!!

Solidest was clearly intended, though that is clumsy relative to most solid. I would agree that it's poor writing, but hardly difficult to understand.

This is the most unheard of thing one ever heard of.

If everything is boxed around the future Veep pick, what sort of a nincompoop is going to accept the slot? And what kind of a respect for the Veep is being shown by this behavior?

wait. Perhaps Obama doesn't even need a veep. He can single-handedly run the government, without the benefit of a Veep. After all, the Veep's duty is to check the health of the 'The Man' everyday, and Obama is young, energetic, dynamic, articulate, charismatic, .... who needs a Veep?

I have enormous respect for Joe Biden. He was my first choice for the nomination, and I'll be damned if he is going to submit himself to measured for a straight jacket by this neophyte crowd.

Sitting in the senate, he will have an enormous influence, on any administration. Being a veep, he will be answerable to low gopher in the white house; a Harriet Miers or a Monica Goodling. It is a no-brainer.

Let Barry stew in his own juices. Perhaps he can call Temp Services for a Veep, whenever he needs a tie breaker in the senate. Give him a couple of thousand plus travel expenses for presiding, and be done for the day. It will be a cheap solution.

He could even reward his fund raisers this way. All 100k+ guys could be Veep for a day.

This notion about tax hike is all bogus and fear mongering tactic.

Hey just in case you are not aware, George Bush cut some taxes but the cost of every damn thing went up.

Ironically, your taxes and the cost of living is higher today than anytime in history. Stop the deception and be realistic.

Am an independent, but one thing I know George Bush and the Republican party are a disaster to this nation. Shame on those ignoring the reality of their own lives.

Get a life and lets go look for a second job just to survive.....

Hey, Bob in St. Louis...Who has more experience than Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bush and McCain? What has all that experience achieved for us?

1. Inflation,
2. Recession,
3. Trillion dollar wars on two fronts,
4. Russia, North Korea, and Iran threatening us with nuclear proliferation and cold war scenarios,
5. Total loss of international respect and global cooperation,
6. American’s distrust of our own government,
7. Government intrusion into our private phone calls, web-browsing, and intimate lives
8. Gridlock or ignorance on important global environmental, energy, and security issues.
9. Government by power-mad ideologues that rule by inciting fear in the hearts of our citizens.
10. Leaders that are bought and paid for by Corporate American lobbyists who then demand and get their every wish at the expense of the common citizen.

When “experience” gives us results such as these, I know that we will be MUCH better off with the ample courage, intelligence, honesty, and tempered judgment of President Barack Obama!

To all of you--I respect your passion and opinions! And--I think that having the staff structure in place for the VP choice is very wise. It will mean effective action right away--no confusion, and no time wasted while individual "teams" are melded together. The VP choices you've mentioned are all experienced and strong individuals--I really don't think any one them would accept a VP position if it required giving up personal autonomy and the right to voice opinions. A good structure actually makes it possible for more time, energy and thought to be given to the issues of the campaign.

Bill and Hillary To Face Fraud Trial
February 20, 2008
While Hillary Clinton battles Barack Obama on the campaign trail, a judge in Los Angeles is quietly preparing to set a trial date in a $17 million fraud suit that aims to expose an alleged culture of widespread corruption by the Clintons and the Democratic Party.

At the conclusion of a hearing Thursday morning before California Superior Court Judge Aurelio N. Munoz, lawyers for Hollywood mogul Peter F. Paul will begin seeking sworn testimony from all three Clintons – Bill, Hillary and Chelsea – along with top Democratic Party leaders and A-list celebrities, including Barbra Streisand, John Travolta, Brad Pitt and Cher.

Paul's team hopes for a trial in October. The Clinton's longtime lawyer David Kendall, who will attend the hearing, has declined comment on the suit.

The Clintons have tried to dismiss the case, but the California Supreme Court, in 2004, upheld a lower-court decision to deny the motion.

Bill Clinton, according to the complaint, promised to promote Paul's Internet entertainment company, Stan Lee Media, in exchange for stock, cash options and massive contributions to his wife's 2000 Senate campaign. Paul contends he was directed by the Clintons and Democratic Party leaders to produce, pay for and then join them in lying about footing the bill for a Hollywood gala and fundraiser.

The Clintons' legal counsel has denied the former president made any deal with Paul. But Paul attorney Colette Wilson told WND there are witnesses who say it was common knowledge at Stan Lee Media that Bill Clinton was preparing to be a rainmaker for the company after he left office.

Paul claims former Vice President Al Gore, former Democratic Party chairman Ed Rendell and Clinton presidential campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe also are among the people who can confirm Paul engaged in the deal.

Paul claims Rendell directed various illegal contributions to the DNC and Hillary Clinton's campaign and failed to report to the Federal Election Commission more than $100,000 given for a Hollywood event for Gore's campaign and the Democratic National Committee in 2000. McAuliffe, Paul says, counseled him in two separate meetings to become a major donor to Hillary Clinton to pave the way to hire her husband. Paul asserts top Clinton adviser Harold Ickes also directed him to give money to the Senate campaign but hid that fact in "perjured testimony" during the trial of campaign finance director David Rosen.

Rosen was acquitted in 2005 for filing false campaign reports that later were charged by the FEC to treasurer Andrew Grossman, who accepted responsibility in a conciliation agreement that fined the campaign 35,000. Paul points out the Rosen trial established his contention that he personally gave more than $1.2 million to Clinton's campaign and that his contributions intentionally were hidden from the public and the Federal Election Commission.

Rosen, accused of concealing Paul's in-kind contribution of more than $1 million, was acquitted, but Paul contends the Clinton staffer was a scapegoat. Paul points out chief Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson told the Washington Post he was aware of the donation, yet he never was called as a witness in the Rosen trial.

Paul contends his case will expose "the institutional culture of corruption embraced by the Clinton leadership of the Democratic Party," which seeks to attain "unaccountable power for the Clintons at the expense of the rule of law and respect for the constitutional processes of government."

The complaint asserts Clinton has filed four false reports to the FEC of Paul's donations in an attempt to distance herself from him after a Washington Post story days after the August 2000 fundraiser reported his past felony convictions. Clinton then returned a check for $2,000, insisting it was the only money she had taken from Paul. But one month later, she demanded another $100,000, to be hidden in a state committee using untraceable securities.

"Why wouldn't that cause someone to inquire?" Paul asked. "Especially since it was days after she said she wouldn't take any more money from me."

Paul has the support of a new grass-roots political action group that is helping garner the assistance of one of the nation's top lawyers

Republican activist Rod Martin says his group plans to highlight Paul's case as it launches an organization based on the business model of the left-wing MoveOn.org but rooted in the principles and political philosophy of former President Reagan.

Martin's group also is assisting in Paul's complaint to the FEC asserting that unless the agency sets aside the conciliation agreement and rescinds immunity granted the senator, it will "have aided and abetted in the commission" of a felony.

Paul's case is the subject of a video documentary largely comprised of intimate "home movies" of Hillary Clinton and her Hollywood supporters captured by Paul during the period.

Correct about the Clinton for veep comments, her own words will be used against Obama... She has not shown and neither has her husband that they are part of the Democratic team. What is shown is that they are sore loosers. If she was unable to organize and run her campaign well, how does any of her supporters expect that she would run the country well. She lacks sincerety, the only subject I believed anything she talked about was her health plan. Even though Bill was excellent with the economy, his presidency left a bad impression with his escapades. Also all that followed both of them to the white house. I think that Biden would be the best choice for veep.

Go Joe! Senator Biden would be terrific as Vice President. I hope he's the one! Getting the VP Staff in place is good common sense and how does anyone know that the VP to be wasn't consulted about staff considerations? Much better tactic than the VP putting the Puppet Presidential staff in place like the last two terms!

Posted by: Trish | August 18, 2008 1:27 PM | Report abuse

We have heard repeatedly that John Edwards, once chosen, refused to adopt the words of John Kerry's campaign slogan (Help is on the way vs. Hope is on the way, or some equally dumb distinction, was at issue) and wouldn't go on the attack on behalf of Kerry for fear it would harm his sunny political brand. It was a very close election, so these things matter.

Given that history, Obama's careful VP staffing up is really smart and I bet that John Kerry wishes with all his heart he had done the same. This has to be a unified effort, just like Clinton-Gore was, not two mutually disconnected camps like Kerry-Edwards. I'm sure the chosen VP will bring some of his or her people in as well, but how smart to have a solid organization ready to go.

Besides, a minute ago Obama was showing he was terribly "weak" by giving the Clintons such deference at the convention, and now the criticism is that he's being too "strong" in showing he's the boss on the ticket? Get your story straight, people. Maybe both actions are simply good, sensible political judgments.

I think that the VP choice has been made and that these appointments, while made by Doyle, are being approved by said nominee, albeit through the campaign.

With just a week to go to the convention, does anyone really think that the Obama team hasn't decided on a VP?

The only reason Obama hasn't announced his selection is to keep up the suspense...

The only way Obama can win is with Hillary and I would hope that she would say no way. This was all a ploy to keep the Republicans guessing rather than planning. With Hillary they would easily be elected but without Hillary the dems do not stand a chance. In fact if Obama does not pick Hillary then McCain will pick a woman and perhaps even Hillary. Remember in 2004 John Kerry seriously considered John McCain for his VP......McCain can run those commercials all season showing the reporters asking Kerry if he is selcting McCain and then how do dems slash McCain? Again Obama will not win by slandering McCain the way he did Hillary. The only way Obama wins is if Hillary is the VP. At least her plans are her own rather than the plans Obama has which are copied from Hillary.

Its a great strategy to have everyone in place. Its means that by the time the announcement comes, the VP nominee's office has already begun work and have a working relationship with other components of the campaign. The nominee then can simply pack his suitcase and hit the ground running with a prepared schedule, draft speeches, talking points, and other things that would take time to pull together. It recognizes that no matter who sits in the chair, certain skilled basic functions must done by that office.

We must remember that Obama is not looking for a co-president. He is looking for someone who willing to roll their sleeves up to help him get the job done, and a counselor that he can hammer out the issues with. He will probably find someone who really fits with him, maybe someone who has some similarities with Gramps. As he said earlier, it the most important decision that he will make.

It doesn't matter who he picks. Obama keeps thinking he can win over Republicans and took positions at that forum at that church on Saturday night where his answers were all hedged. Did McCain pander to the center or left? No. He gave clear short answers reflecting his views. I don't like many of his views but I respected his straight forward answers. The democrats should take their distinct positions and hold their ground. At least we would all know their true colors. Hillary would of not minced words. Obama can articulate vision and hope but when it comes to specifics about policy and issues, "No he can't"

Soupyet et al though I think Biden et al are great choices, Obama may have to choose Hillary because it is obvious that some of her supporters are too immature to support the Democratic candidate w/o Hillary. I think 99% of Democrats would accept the compromise just because there is an unreasonable group that will allow their loss to sabotage the Democratic chances. It would be a equality Dream ticket though certainly not a Democratic Dream ticket.

He is equal to McCain on Women's issues: he either doesn't care, won't take a stand and votes present most of the time. Sorry, that tactic does not work. Obama, just like Hillary if she had won the primary, will need every vote out there, including yours and the others you seem to think will hide at home. You need to step up to the plate for America, this is not about Hillary.

Go ahead and fail your country. Its your choice whether you stand up like a man. Or stay home and sulk. The country's future is at stake and you want to whine. Go figure. The short list is, Richardson, Hillary, thats it.How could he pick the "older but wiser" when that exactly what he's trying to change, trying to get away from politics like Biden and the others are known for.Richardson has a new world outlook for this country, has a perspective on immigration reform most in this country should envy, and still has international experience beyon Hillary or the others, except Biden.

I've been watching a lot of TV lately and have realized most white Christian guys are mentally retarded and are basically ordered around by their wives. But, black guys are much smarter. In fact, the more a black guy looks like a thug the more likely he'll be a genius. I don't know why I never realized this in real life. But, on TV it happens so much it must be true. Deval Patrick doesn't look like a thug but he is black and therefore smarter than those neutered semi-retarded Christian white guys.

My money is on Richardson as BHO's VP choice. Why? Simple. I honestly believe it was promised to him in the spring in exchange for his backing Obama instead of Clinton. Further, he's quasi-Hispanic (his Spanish is actually quite funny), he's the governor of a "purple" state, and he has those coveted foreign experience credentials (ironically, thanks to Bill Clinton). I will not be voting for BHO, so his choice is of no consequence to me. I would hope Hillary holds out until 2012 when she can be where she belongs: At the top of the ticket.

As much as I'd like to see Al Gore, I know it's slim to none he would do it. I like Joe Biden's experience but his discipline and his mouth may prove to be a negative. Though, against John McCain or his V.P., Biden would be time enough for both of them experience wise. I think the plagiarism issue he had from back in the day may come back to haunt him also.

Sam Nunn, though the consumate Foreign Policy expert and experienced politician, hasn't been in public politics in a while. And he and Obama differ on some very key issues.

Evan Bayh, though he looks the role and has some Foreign Policy credentials, isn't nearly an attack dog that a V.P. should be though he could help Obama lock up Indiana. I think Obama could take Indiana by himself being that Illinois is right there on the border and 20% of Indiana television programming comes from Chicago.

I think Claire McKaskill and Kathleen Sebelius are excellent choices but may send Clintonites into a furor and make the convention a blood fest. Sebelius is popular even with Republicans and could bring a traditionally red Kansas home for Democrats.

My two darkhorse picks would be Bill Richardson, though his public speaking is awful at times, he has the Foreign Policy experience needed, already has been a Cabinet memeber in the Clinton Administration and could bring home New Mexico and surrounding areas.

Colin Powell would really drop a bombshell on the Re-pub-icans. Could you imagine their faces if Powell is asked to be V.P.? What could McCain say about that ticket. If anybody could match McCain and his experienced to lead of Foreign affairs baloney it would be Powell, who is respected both by Dems and Pubs alike. Dick Luger and Chuck Hagel are longshots and them being Pubs, may turn off Democrats. Their saving grace is that both opposed the Iraq War from day one as Repubs so they get some slack for that.

Clinton is VP favorite among Dem delegates

Obama not selecting Clinton shows continued poor judgment for the Democratic Party!

REALCLEAR POLITICS;
Senator Hillary Clinton, without doubt, would be the ultimate and qualified VP surprise. She would be a big-league pick for Obama, and a gesture designed to unify the Democratic Party. She still polls higher against Mccain than Obama even after June. If you scroll down Obama's list of choices, the analysis hasn't really changed: Obama with anyone other than Clinton doesn't seem to add much at all, while an Obama-Clinton "Dream Ticket" would be nearly unstoppable. Eight weeks ago Obama probably felt like he didn't need her. Eight weeks later, he probably needs her more than he's willing to admit, and certainly more than she needs him. If Obama wants to win, and if his ego will allow it, he should pick Clinton.

CBS:
Senator Hillary Clinton is by far the favorite choice for the number two spot on the Democratic ticket, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll of delegates to the Democratic convention. By more than five to one, 56 percent superdelegates think putting Clinton on the ticket would help Obama win the election. Other people mentioned by at least 2 percent of delegates as possible Obama running mates include retired General Wesley Clark, Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, Virginia Senator Jim Webb, and Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius.

New York, Aug.19:
At least 28 percent of the delegates likely to attend the Democratic Convention in Denver, want Hillary Clinton to be Barack Obama's running mate. Six percent favor Delaware Senator Joe Biden, and four percent mention two other unsuccessful Democratic candidates: New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and former North Carolina Senator John Edwards. Support for Clinton as the first choice for the vice-presidential nomination is universal. Sixty-one percent of delegates pledged to Clinton name her as their choice for vice presidential candidate.

CNN & MSNBC’s larger than life Saint Obama seems to grow smaller the closer we approach him and find out the truth that cable news pundits can’t seem to find or report to voters?Obama has lost his small 3pt lead in the national polls his position in the electoral count has deteriorated. Obama has dropped significantly and it’s hard to locate a single instance in a battleground state where Obama has improved in all recent polling data. Whether it was vacation, Putin’s aggressive invasion of Georgia, or some other factor like voters beginning to see that cable news pundits like CNN & MSNBC have not been reporting fair, balanced or in some cases truthful information on both candidates, voters have begun to research Obama on their own and the American TV viewer is learning daily on the lack of true journalism from these cable news pundits?. Proof of that is Obama starts the week leading to convention in his weakest position thus far in the general election. The bad news - obviously - is that Obama appears to have reaped no initial benefit from the tens of millions of dollars he’s spent on advertising over the last two and a half months. All of which strikes me as a bit of a problem at this point. While the cool, composed, no-drama Obama may appear presidential to some it also makes him detached from the many and multiplying crises around him. These are not the most soothing of times for Americans. The economy is shaky. Unemployment is up. Growth is down. Oil prices have hit the roof just as home prices have crashed through the floor. Detroit is facing a full-fledged meltdown. We are still embroiled in two wars, neither of which offers much hope for a happy ending. Al Qaeda is running wild in western Pakistan. And now, like some bad acid flashback, Russia is acting like it wants to restart the Cold War. Obama should try to alter his basic nature or pretend to care deeply about these issues that are not important to him. Obama needs to recognize that unrelenting cool may not be what voters are longing for this election.

If Obama should select Hillary as his VP he would be making a big mistake.
1. Hillary has no experience. Eight years as first lady does not equate into domestic, international, economic, or military experience.
Hillary did not sit in on any important meetings.
2. Hillary and Bill are two shyster, sleazy lawyers who have been inolved in many scandals from Arkansas to the White House.
3. Obama should distance himself from the Clintons because they will continue to handicap him at every turn.
4. The only reason the Clintons got into the White House is due to the naivete and ignorance of the American voter.
5. Think Arkansas, hillbillies, the second most illiterate State in the U.S.
6. Obama needs a VP who can help to balance
the ticket with domestic, international, and military experience. Hillary does not have that experience.
Gimme a break.........

Hillary supporters need to begin the process of moving on. Either you vote for him and help him win, you vote for some of the others in a throw away your vote, vote for McCain against every thing you say you stand for, or you stay home and don't vote.

Obama has a lot on him, he does not need distractions. There are too many negatives with Hillary, and her selection would be the kiss of death for him. We are faced with major issues both at home and abroad and no longer have the luxury to play around. We have been hoodwinked long enough, and now the messes need to be cleaned up, and we need to get back on tract.

CNN, CBS, MSNBC, ABC, Newsweek, The New York Times and many other members of the Main Stream Media have for months helped to foster a deception upon the American people, that being Obama's true position on many major issues. They have achieved this deception by not reporting on the facts, and not asking the tough questions that need to be asked of a Presidential Candidate. The US Constitution guarantees Freedom of The Press in order to assure that the main stream press is free to ask just such probing questions. The profit motive has now injected itself into political reporting and many major news outlets are skewing their reporting in order to garner favor among certain portions of the population. This Prostitution of the Freedom of the Press was never envisioned by our founding fathers. Isn't it IRONIC that a PASTOR and NOT a REPORTER was the main instrument in getting Obama to finally answer some tough, difficult, yet truly relevant questions? Pundints from every major news organization have admitted ON AIR that the venue that Pastor Rick Warren organized was a "Brilliant" one. Rest assured that since the Obama campaign has seen how poorly Obama performed under such a format, that they will do everything in their power to block any further "Debates" from adopting the same format.

The Saddleback experience has firmly cemented the Church's legitimate role in the future of Presidential Debates. Thanks are due to CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, Newsweek, and The New York Times for moving aside in your reporting coverage these past months, and allowing Rick Warren to have a place in history. Thank God for people with courage and moral fortitude like Pastor Rick Warren who are willing to examine the issues facing our country without regard to the profit motive or party loyalty. Freedom of The Press Should not be for sale! Take heed CNN. Pay attention MSNBC. Learn something CBS. We've just made news here ABC. Are you reading between the lines here Mr. Editor of The New York Times? Can you figure out the implication of this story Newsweek? I hope all of you are listening. The silence is truly deafening!

If the whole VP staff has already been picked by Obama strategists, the VP can't be anyone substantial. What person of real stature would allow every person close by to be the choice of someone else? That shows just how much David Axelrod has not only created the fake and glib Obama persona, but how he will do the same for the VP, likely someone who has no alternative but to go along with this domination...Call it Obamanation!

Where are all these supporters that she's supposed to have? You say she knows her game? Can you imagine if she were in charge of the national budget with her lousy money management skills!? She'd bankrupt the country! We can all thank our lucky stars we won't ever have Clinton for President. She will be paying this debt off for the next ten years, and she won't be able to run for dogcatcher or her current senate seat.

Any VP will eventually have staff changes that make a better fit.

IF a fair election actually happens
and
IF Cheney and Co. allow a government transition without promoting, allowing or initiating another international crisis
excuse to declare Martial Law,

... the main point of all this organizing is to hit the ground in stride so no time is lost on minutia decisions or squabbles. Competence and ability to work within the set structure of the administration will work out who stays and who goes pretty quickly. If not quickly, then eventually.

Get off your minutia and make a difference where you live.

Every one of you fools going on and on about how Hillary would be the kiss of death or the nail in the coffin can't see the forest for the trees. Hillary is the ultimate choice. She has the name recognition and the Clintons are internationally reknowned despite Bill's indiscretions with the ladies(the rest of the world doesn't even count that as a big deal) Our economy is so tied down because of our lack of international support given the fiaso of the Bushwacked Crudministration, that we need both the forces of Obamas and the Clintons to take us back to the top....and don't give me that nonsense about how Hillary and Bill can't take a back seat blah blah blah...look I would take 3 competent "presidents" in the Whitehouse, over Tweedle Dubya, Vlad the Impaler, and Granpa Munster Mclame anyday. All 3 of them are bright enough and slick enough to handle the vicious game of politics and at the end of the day, I know they will put America back on track for we the people in the US of A and the "bystanders" of the international community, which is what they have been treated like for the past 8 years....quit bickering Dems and come together. Here's what it comes down to Gigi et al (those of you have yet to accept that Hillary lost the primary) - SHE LOST.

Being picked as VP isn't the same as being nominated for President. It's a terrible concession. As someone said about Biden above, she could do more as a Senator than as VP.

Also Gigi, it doesn't matter if the rest of the world doesn't care about Bill's indiscretions - they can't vote, he's not running, and you know what? Neither is Hillary.

Hillary votes need to come to accept that fact and not shoot all of us in the foot by staying home or voting for a Republican.

They have become similar to Paris Hilton and Britney(not that I agree with McCains's conjectures) in that Paris and Britney and Hillary and Bill seem to care little if the press is good or bad, as long as they are the lead story.

What does logic and reason have to do with the v-p selection? Obama will pick who best fits his needs to run the agenda. If he chooses to run a more central White House, he would select leadership of the Senate to allow more decisions to come from the WH. House leadership seems to be factionalized already, that little comes out of that chamber.

Obama claims his name is African Swahili, actually it is Arabic and 'Baraka' (from which Barack came)means 'blessed' in that language, Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama. If elected to the presidency he would be the first Arab-American President, not the first black President. Obama was registered as a Muslim when he attended school in Indonese and kept that faith for 31 years, until his wife made him change so he could run for office. Why cannot Life Magazine find the article you claim changed your outlook on life? When will Obama start stateing fact not fiction.

HRC was beaten, fair and square. As was detailed in The Atlantic recently [email leaks], it was Hillary's own lack of leadership (with tons of help from a dysfunctional campaign) that sealed her fate. That campaign was political malpractice.

As a former Bill Clinton fan, I found the HRC campaign stunningly slow-footed and schizophrenic... sweetie-pie nice one day - shame on you Barack! the next.

Bill's the one living in a fairyland if he thinks we're going to forget his role. Shameful, really.

I believe the HRC campaign set back a woman's next run for POTUS, not advanced it. Part of playing with the big boys is not crying, whining, and throwing tantrums when you get bested. She and Bill and her most rabid supporters shoulda manned-up and taken her beating without all the histrionics. And false claims upon the DNC.

Only a PUMA would believe HRC was unfairly treated by the DNC, by the nasty ol' sexist MSM, that miracles can happen in Denver, and that there is a boogeyMAN under the bed.

Many of us believed that an HRC administration would be polarizing and just more of the last 28 years. We didn't want another 4 years of that kind of politics, and refused to bite on the 'inevitable front-runner' baloney. Instead, we're sending Barack to the convention as our nominee.

I get your sentiments JLM, but Biden is just not exactly going to get all of Hillary's supporters out there...and there are millions of us out there remember? Yes he is one of the good guys more or less, but he is still just another stuffy old white guy, and for the man with the message of change, Obama, is going to suffer from choosing Biden...and as for the whole She LOST, thing, look, I get that, and if John Edwards had a decent bone in his body, he would have never run, and we wouldn't be having this conversation, it's pretty obvious, who John Edwards' supporters would have more than likely voted for. We would all be bickering about how Hillary had better pick Obama for her running hate, blah blah blah. Let's face it, our boy Obama, is a newby, and like I mentioned earlier, politics is not a game of nuance and happy happy joy joy standoffishness, you can ask Kerry if he agrees with that. Being intellectually aloof doesn't work. The Clintons are hardballers, love em or hate em, they know how to play the game of politics, and I am a 90's baby. My "clan" did well with Bill at the helm of country, and it will do well again with the Obama and Clintons teams combined. I know Hillary will bring the energy back into the campaign that Biden will simply fizzle out of it. Hey, don't believe me? Thanks for your reply Gigi. I just want to clarify though. My comment above about Biden was an analogy - I was comparing the comment that he'd be more effective in the Senate than as VP to the same statement about HRC. I wasn't suggesting him for VP, but actually arguing against both him and Hillary at the same time.

Even more salienty, to all the PUMAs out there. Say Obama did pick HRC to bring all of you over. So that gets us just about 44-48% of the electorate. However, it guarantees we won't break 51% and get elected on popular vote (and makes the Electoral College unlikely) as I doubt that HRC anywhere on the ticket will woo any independents and Republicans - getting some swing from independents and the opposing party is essential to any presidential run in this climate. I don't think that making PUMAs happy is either necessary to win this election or a greater good than beating John McCain.
