Party Time '08: Add Tony Bennett and James Taylor to the Mix

We have a strange feeling Tony Bennett will be serenading House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) with his classic "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" in Denver later this month.

The Grammy-award winning crooner is among the big names in music lending their talent to the behind-the-scenes partying at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. Bennett, along with James Taylor and rising star John Legend, will perform at a "Salute to Speaker Nancy Pelosi" on opening night of the convention, Monday, Aug. 25.

The bash for Pelosi, who hails from San Francisco, will be hosted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is already celebrating what it anticipates will be big gains for the House Democratic majority in November. (We're betting Taylor sings his moody classic "Something In the Way She Moves.")

Tony Award winning actress and star of Broadway musicals "Wicked" and "Rent," Idina Menzel, is also slated to perform at a reception hosted by Pelosi to honor Women Members of Congress on Wednesday, August 27.

She'll have stiff competition. Kanye West is the headline entertainment for an event Wednesday hosted by the recording industry lobby and Bono's One Campaign. Expect to see Legend, a prot&eaccute;g&eaccute; of West, join the hip-hop king on stage there.

The Republicans are scheduled to have Ted Nugent to kick off a reception honoring Family and Faith. Rush Limbaugh will keynote a reception on Faith and Marriage. He was asked because he is a pro at being married (3 times and counting). Other luminaries include BOFO the Clown from Ringling Brothers Circus, and Mr. Pips the chimp, apparently doing stand-up at South Georgia bars as an impersonator of Barack Obama.

Winner Take All:

Perhaps you know not that the very same thirty-six million votes,
including nine million spoilers and all, cast from January to June
that gave Obama about 150 delegate margin under the rule of
proportional allocation, the very same votes give Clinton 600 delegate
margin under the rule of Winner Take All as Republican Party have it.
Same republic, same voters, same votes and yet rule maker decides if
one nominee is 150 delegates ahead or on the contrary the other
nominee is 600 delegates ahead. Perhaps you do not see the foot prints
of Karl Rove outside the window of RBC, Democratic Rules and Bylaws
Committee. Good for your sanity if you don’t.

We're betting Taylor sings his moody classic "Something In the Way She Moves"? I'm pretty sure you mean "Something" by George Harrison.

"Something in the Way She Moves" is a James Taylor song. It's not the same as the George Harrison song. See "James Taylor Greatest Hits" (among others) for this moody classic.

Nancy Pelosi does not 'hail' from San F. She's a Baltimore gal.

The first line of SOMETHING written by George Harrison was inspired by the James Taylor tune SOMETHING IN THE WAY SHE MOVES. The song was initially released on Taylor's debut album for the Beatles Apple label.

How about Tony Bennett serenades Cindy Sheehan instead?

Mary Ann, no Pelosi does not "hail" from SF, she grew up in Baltimore in a family steeped in politics--dad was the mayor of Baltimore for years, then went to Congress (Tommy Delasandro)! She is NOT a CA liberal, as often painted, but rather a great fellow-Md. native Democrat. She cut her teeth on hometown politics on the EAST coast, thank you! Her brother is also a Md. politician. Please check the bio first. Too bad she and other Dems in Congress have been led astray by Howard Dean and stupid DNC strategizing--we rank and file Dems are hopping mad at the whole lot! They have committed a real boneheaded move by making the worst "pick" they could--the Bonehead from Chicago! Go Cindy Sheehan and write in Hillary!

Still waiting for Mary Ann, who was obsessed with the Mark Foley and Larry Craig scandals, to start running snarky items on the Hollow Man who was taken so seriously by a common kind of MSM journalist - John Edwards.

I won't hold my breath, but I think I will know why she has lost her guts on this one, as she did when Eliot Spitzer, another fried of the peepul, was exposed as a hypocritical fraud. GOP scandals are metaphors for the whole party, you see, while Democratic scandals are isolated aberrations. This is scientific truth, see, like NPR says - reality has a well-known liberal bias. Does one comprehend?

So Nancy left her heart in San Francisco? I wondered where it was. It certainly is not in Washington for she has had no heart to lead us toward solutions for any of our problems.
