Party Time '08, Obama's Mile High Club

This year's Democratic convention may as well be called Obamapalooza.

The week-long celebration in the Mile High City is shaping up to be a round-the-clock, celebrity-infused, boozy bash with night after night of live concerts by major recording artists, as well as more intimate daytime and post-gavel receptions hosted by lobbyists hoping to make a splash with the Democratic presidential nominee.

Among the biggest names in music slated to perform at various late-night events are: the Black Eyed Peas (the band's lead singer, will.i.am, is one of Barack Obama's personal faves), Kanye West, Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Melissa Ethridge, Cyndi Lauper, James Taylor, Tony Bennett and Rage Against the Machine (whose performance at the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles ended in a cloud of tear gas and rubber bullets).

The fun -- which hopefully this time around won't require gas masks -- kicks off Sunday night with a concert hosted by the nonpartisan Denver 2008 Convention Host Committee featuring the Dave Matthews Band, Sheryl Crow and Sugarland. And throughout the week, there will be jazz, blues, country, punk, funk and rock shows galore, with lots of Hollywood A-list celebrities soaking up the scene. (As a Sleuth Party Time '08 service, here's a list of official convention-related events and Sunlight Foundation's compilation of parties.)

Coinciding with dozens of wonky symposiums on climate change, energy, national security and other issues, there'll be plenty daytime lobbyist-sponsored fun as well, including batting practice at Coors Field, courtesy of AT&T, and lunch with Bill Clinton's consigliere, Vernon Jordan, sponsored by the lobby/law firm Akin Gump.

Obama is gonna choose billionaire NYC mayor Bloomberg because that is his instruction from the oligarghy (international bankers and financiers) controlling the elections. Obama is their puppet. Bloomberg will privatize the US government to profit big time $$$ as planned because their wealth is going down with bad economy and currency. Bloomberg will privatize US programs, infrastructure and jobs and forsake President FDR's policies that benefits 80% of the forgotten people and Constitution.

If you looked up the word "sneer" in the dictionary, you'd get a photo of Mary Ann Akers. Her columns represent everything that's insufferable about the media, all wrapped up in one insubstantial, not-worth reading package. Please . . . doesn't Rachel Maddow have a print equivalent that could replace this nitwit!

Obama should consider Congressman John Larson of Connecticut. He has exhibited leadership on energy and technology, and would be the perfect point man to guide the Obama White House's initiative for the "Re-Greening of America." Much has to be repaired in this country. Obama is needed to patch up our relationship with the rest of the world. Vice President Larson has both an understanding of the cost of the present conflict, and the ability to express and define the national agenda. His roots are in a housing project; his father was a fireman for jet engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney. A history teacher, he has a deep understanding of the lessons of our nation's past that always lends his wise viewpoints a broader, rooted perspective.
Congressman John Larson should not be overlooked.

Are you claiming that Mr. Clean, the second coming, Obama, will have parties hosted by lobbyists?

Surely that is a sick joke on your part. Surely the divine O is above such Bushian things!

Say it ani't so, Aks

Beware of Klintons working in the background. Slick Willie and Chillary are still to be heard from.

Fortunately for those who suffer scruples about what other people eat, no trans fats will be served.

To marginalize the city of Denver and it's convention by referring to it with the incredibly sleazy terminology "mile high club" is an insult to both the city and the Democrats attending the convention. Shame on you.
