Party Time '08: Obama and The Boss?

DENVER -- The feverish buzz around the Pepsi Center is that Bruce Springsteen -- whose song "The Rising" is an Obama campaign theme song -- will make a special appearance in Denver this week, possibly joining Barack Obama on stage Thursday night when the Democratic candidate gives his acceptance speech at Invesco Field at Mile High stadium.

Fueling the speculation: the Boss has a six-day gap in his tour schedule, with no public concerts listed between Aug. 24, when he's due to perform in Kansas City, and Aug. 30, when he's set to perform in Milwaukee.

And local radio and other news outlets are reporting the Boss buzz as fact. One of the Sleuth's colleagues heard a traffic reporter on a Denver country radio station warning drivers about the traffic woes when Springsteen shows up later this week.

The Las Vegas Review Journal also is reporting that Springsteen "will follow Obama with a solo acoustic performance on Thursday after Obama's acceptance speech."

Great!!! The Boss should play "Born in the USA" and point out that Obama is a true American, born in the USA unlike McCain who was born in Panama!

I used to be a big Springsteen fan until he went in the tank for Obama. Now I have no use for him whatsoever. Just another celebrity endorser. Obama's Hollywood connections will help sink him in flyover country though.

We are pulling together with a positive vision for America. Enough of the politics of divide and conquer. Obama/Biden is about getting back to the America of the New Deal, not the America of the raw deal. The Boss understands this.

Like most of you, I've been following the campaign and I have now seen and heard enough to know where I stand. Senator Obama, in my view, is head and shoulders above the rest.

He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next President. He speaks to the America I've envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle nuanced and complex problems, a country that's interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit. A place where "...nobody crowds you, and nobody goes it alone." Bruce Springsteen

I can never understand people who get upset when Springsteen "gets political". Haven't they been listening to his music and LYRICS for all of these years? The River, Factory, Born in the USA? Bruce has always been political, and it's always been obvious what political side he is on. Did some hardcore conservative who claims he loves Bruce ever LISTEN to Nebraska?

I, too, would like to see Bruce play "Born in America" after Senator Obama's speech, it would be a wonderful closure!

We have never had a candidate like Senator Obama, he is almost too good to be true, and I believe this is what frightens some people. He is a genuine person, one of our very own middle class, who has experienced and seen the things we have in our lives, who has worried about making their house payment and paying his and Michelle's college bills/loans. Who could better work for us than someone who knows what the middleclass and the poor are all about? Who KNOWS how to scrimp like you and I, who had to sacrifice and really work hard to get to where he is today. Nobody gave this man or his wife anything, they both came from the middleclass, they were both intelligent, smart and terrific students and earned scholarships to help them through school. The Obamas and Joe Biden are SELF-MADE people through hard work, perseverence, and dedication. They are proof that we can be whatever we want to be if we set our minds to it. I have a daughter who received her PHD in July...I am not a wealthy person by any means, however, with her working as a waitress 30-40 hours a week while still carrying a full curriculum, student loans, and a couple of scholarshipss, and some help from me, she went from receiving her Bachelors, to her Masters, to her PHD. It was not easy and she, of course, has student loans to pay off, but you know what? She is a self-made woman who has succeeded in the same way the Obamas have: Hard work, dedication, perserverence, and sacrifice. She is an assistant professor in Speech Pathology, and will be a full professor in Sept. This is why I support Senator Obama, he has been there, he has done it, and he KNOWS what it's like getting through college without coming from a weathy/rich family. Barack and Michelle's stories are my daughter's story, and my daughter's story is Barack and Michelle's respective stories. I am a white woman who also worked very hard for my own successes in life, putting myself, at age 16, through private school and then college. So, the Obamas' experiences in that regard are my own as well. Been there, done that! Obama/Biden 08

Guess you have not read about John McCain and his "Hollywood" an "celebrity" support in 2000? Really, some research will help keep you from looking so foolish. I suppose now that you know about John McCain and his own celebrity endorsements, you won't vote for him either?? LOL

The GOP gets mad at Springsteen because their party is stuck with has-beens like Dennis Miller and Bo Derek and one-hit wonder never-wuzes like Lee Greenwood for celebrity support.

how in the world do you give up on music you love because the singer cares about politics? it's like you weren't really a fan at all, or are you someone whose love is always conditional, based on narrow judgments that block out everything that seems uncomfortable. who taught you that? in the end, after all the D's and R's fade into obscurity, music endures, especially Bruce's. can you just listen to it for all the working man heart that's in it and you might understand how he HAS to come out and support O. anyway, be a gopper if you have to, vote for Mad Mac, even, just don't let this election take away the one thing that CAN bring us together--our beating heart rhythm.

"The One" and another rock star! Obama needs to move away from the "star" status and become a serious candidate. The Empty Suit continues to demonstrate his lack of gravitas and stature. America is not voting for some Hollywood bimbo or high profile musician. We need a candidate of strength, leadership, character, honesty, experience and humility. From where I stand, Obama is totally devoid of all these attributes.

I have been loyal Springsteen fan for as long a I can remember, even though I never agree with him politically. Thank God his skills as a song writer don't suffer from the same lack of insight as he clearly suffered from when he decided to support Obama.

I am not a McCain person under any circumstance, but I am a Retired US Army person, who had a kid born on foreign soil, but that did not mean she was less an American, just administrative paper work must be filed via US Embassy to cement her citizenship. The same apply to McCain being born in Panama from US Military parent. Suggest those who feel this way about any one born on foreign soil to US of American Military parents spend some time reserching before denouncing True US Citizens.

When I read the posts from so-called middle America, the America Bruce Springsteen writes about, supporting republican candidates because they fear new taxes or some unarticulated bad thing happening, I think, "What have the republican administrations or congresses done for you lately?" Under this administration, only the rich have gotten richer and, damn it, they can afford more taxes to give back to those less fortunate. I'm so amazed at how the underclass in this country supports the wealthiest class in progessing while they live without adequate health care, child care, or retirement income. Bruce Springsteen and the Obama/Biden values/plan for America is about all of us moving up, not just a select few.

And for those who say Obama is an "empty suit" or "all speech, no substance," read his website - if you haven't found out about what he will do, then you're either not motivated to or you've bought the MSM's repetitive message that "Americans don't really know Obama..." what a bunch of republican hooha. The candidate we don't really know is McCain. He's changed his tune on most important issues - what can we really expect from him in office?

Will Gore steal Dem nomination Thursday night as he may be holding about 100 super delegates' support to deter others and conveniently take advantage of political discontent, chaos and confusion of primaries? As multi-millionaire, will he privatize US governments' programs, infrastructure and jobs for big profit$$$ versus take care of the 80% of the forgotten people?

Will Obama be rid of with his own generated sex and financial scandals? There is a term called "down low" in the black community for professionals who have gay sex on the side despite being married with children and have respectable daytime jobs. Larry Sinclair has come forward with gay sex and drug use claims with Obama in November 1999. He is scared of death threats from the Obama camp since 2006. Google "barack obama is a closet homosexual," or "Video: Pastor Manning Says Obama is Homosexual...," or "Digg - Is Larry Sinclair Obama's dark secret," etc.

President FDR won the 4th ballot in the roll call process in 1932. The rest is history. It should be allowed on Wednesday night. Otherwise the DNC leaves an undeniable impression that the process is stolen especially since Pelosi and Dean orchestrated MI and FLA votes in favor of Obama since summer of 2007.

Is Ted Kennedy's malignant brain tumor a fraud to distract from his real legacy of his 1968/69 Chappaquidic sex/murder scandal because he doesn't seem to have chemo and radiation side effects such as weight loss due to loss of appetite, jauntice, etc. like a typical cancer patient?

Wonder if Obama’s plane failure a couple of weeks ago was a cover up of his involvement in the general tampering of opponents’ planes during this election season? Does he have another "tampering" attempt scheduled for this Sunday when opponent’s plane is scheduled to fly from NY/NJ area to Madison, Wisconsin for example??? hmmmm....

For you folks referencing "Born in the USA" -- please go listen to the actual lyrics. That song is not an endorsement of anything USA -- it's a criticism of American involvement in Vietnam. Reagan made the same mistake. I thought he was the only one who never bothered listening.

Brian Williams made the same mistake saying Bruce played Born in the USA as a dedication to Michael Phelps when he hadn't. Bruce decided to cover Brian's misinformation by dedicating Thunder Road to Michael NOT Born in the USA as that would not be an inappropriate dedication. Bruce has never changed his ways or ideas - he has always stood up for the working man! Kudo's to him for not forgetting where he came from! I'm sure he has no problem what-so-ever paying more taxes, because he believes in everyone paying their fare share - not the Republican way of the rich getting richer and the poor poorer!
