Artist Paints Portrait of 'President Obama'

He doesn't have the White House locked up yet but Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) already is the subject of a portrait titled "President Obama."

"The painting is on hold and ready for when he walks into the Oval Office," says Chaz Guest, the artist who painted it. Guest tells us the painting will be on loan to Senator/Possibly President Obama from the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago "until it is official."

Guest decided to paint the portrait of "President Obama" since the Illinois senator was so appreciative of another portrait Guest painted of the late Justice Thurgood Marshall. That portrait, which Guest loaned to Obama, has hung in Obama's Senate office for three years now.

Obama sent Guest a note thanking him for that painting on Oct. 11, 2005, saying: "A few years ago, Vernon Jordan told a graduating class that, 'You are where you are today because you stand on somebody's shoulders...and if you stand on the shoulders of others, you have a reciprocal responsibility to live your life so that others may stand on yours.' One of the people whose shoulders I stand on is Thurgood Marshall.... Looking at the painting each day provides me great inspiration and comfort."

Guest, who lives in Los Angeles, says he first met Obama four years ago at a fundraiser held at the home of major Obama bundlers Mattie and Michael Lawson when the rising political star from Illinois was running for Senate.

The artist sure seems confident that his portrait will be hanging in the Oval Office come next year. Perhaps there will be serigraphs (silkscreen prints) created of the painting of Sen. Obama at a later date," Guest told the Sleuth via email.

I appreciate this effort. What a graceful president we all will have as all the world population has mesmerized by his international tour and waiting to welcome him.

It is a beautiful painting and it is a hopeful vision of the future. You don't have to hate the painting even if you are not voting for Obama. Art shows our ability to be creative instead of destructive and is a wonderful gift to us all. We could move backward and ban Art and Books but I think the majority of Americans would like to move forward. At least that is my sincere hope.

This portrait will go well with the gold Obama coins the Democratic Party ordered and being minted in Britain. You know those Brits, "doing jobs Americans won't do".

Good thing it's a flattering picture.

Otherwise, the Obama Truth Squad goons would be trying to prosecute the artist.

This artist needs to change Obama's clothing to reflect his "Hitler/Gestapo" campaign tactics they are trying to pull on the citizens of Missouri, i.e. using law enforcement officers to intimidate and harass anyone who makes statements against "the one". I don't want The Messiah in my White House. No way. Check out http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2092020/posts. Unbelieveable!!

We are sick of this messiah. We will be voting against this fraud...

Posted by: Mtih | September 27, 2008 7:54 PM | Report abuse

Well, he's already got his presidential seal...

People need to wake up and see who this guy is. He and Biden are the #1 and #3 most liberal senators, respectively. #4 is Bernie Sanders- a self-proclaimed socialist. What does that tell you?

I wouldn't vote for this guy if you put a gun to my head. And given the way his campaign has reacted to people who disagree with him, maybe someone doing that isn't that farfetched. Look at what they're doing in Missouri. Look at what they're doing in Virginia. I find it interesting how absentee ballots from my alma mater (which happens to be a conservative campus) have mysteriously vanished. Open your eyes- he's everything you always accuse the Republicans of.

Well, first, his wife hates America, Obama refuses to acknowledge the flag of the United States, then a presidential seal, then and now, legal action and harassment in order to stifle debate and dissent (WGN, A.I.P., Missouri, Virginia, etc.) and now a presidential portrait, although, according to the author of this article, blame for the latter cannot be laid directly at Obama's feet, that we know of.

Exit question: Who commissioned the painting?

Hmmm... Artistically, this seems to me to portray someone with elitist tendencies, egotistical, someone who lacks the patience to build a resume before trying for the job. He appears to be a man who is prone to overestimate himself. Oh, and he's very fond of his own profile. But then I'm no art critic.

It's a shame that TV fans see Obama's dictator show as something really great. It's like watching zombies walk over a cliff. There's this little thing called an election, see, where we're supposed to exercise our right to VOTE. And now, sending out TRUTH SQUADS to catch whatever Obama's definition is of a lie?? Dude is nuts and dangerous. What about his lies? Call me the Truth Squad now, a liar is on the loose somewhere near Reverand Jeremiah Racist's backyard pool. The fake presidential podium had to be the funniest and most offensive thing to come along since Marv Albert wore thongs.

People, get it quick. Obama is oppressive. You're seeing it: a Socialist, a puppet, a Soros field hand. Come November, the Chicago machine WILL come to collect on the bill. You're getting a taste of Socialism now, and Obama is still flipping like a fish to cover his radical past. Too bad print & broadcast media is racist, biased AND sexist. The party of tolerance? Anything but.

McCain-Palin '08. (Or expect a Truth Squad on YOUR front lawn. Pathetic.)

So, watching the strong arm tactics of squashing anti-Obama opinions, clogging phonelines at radio stations that have guests who oppose Obama and asking MO state law enforcement to arrest anyone spreading lies or untruths about Obama, I would suspect that this picture will not only in the the White House, but it will be required to hang in every American home as well.

When it comes down to it in the election booth, with nothing to choose but who do you believe, who do you trust, John McCain is simply more believable and trustworthy.

Barack Obama is forceful. Barack Obama is confident. Barack Obama is measured and yes, indeed, Presidential at times. But most of all, Barack Obama is empty of experience and achievment and therefore he has no choice but to become like an actor striving for the most powerful job in the world. I’m very alarmed he has gotten this far. Besides he looks like a snob.

** all the world population has mesmerized by his international tour and waiting to welcome him. **

Yes, all the world population is so mesmerized by him that they cannot remember one memorable line from any of his major speeches or debates.

His speech in Berlin? What was a memorable line from that?

His speech at the DNC Convention in Denver? What was a memorable line from that?

The most memorable line from his debate with McCain on Friday was "taking out Pakistan" and "Um, uh, I've got a bracelet too."

That bodes well for McCain, not Obama, you fool.

Posted by: Jeff | September 28, 2008 9:56 AM | Report abuse

OK The ChosenOne seems to have a very public personal problem with Hubris, here are but a few examples: #1 Obama has been recorded responding to questions, "When I'm President", #2 Created an ersatz Presidential Seal, placed it on a podium that He delivers a speech from, #3 Ordered constructed a special chair in his campaign plane, with the word 'President' stenciled on it (photo of it in ABC news article) #4 When on the Germany leg of Obama's tour of Europe, requested as a venue for his speech; the Brandenburg Gate, a venue reserved for heads of state. Why does Obama conduct such a smug self-indulgent campaign of entitlement? Tragically, He's not in possession of the Maturity to lead, nor the Humility to serve as Commander-n-Chief

Obama is not the President. Hell he was not even a good community organizer. Just go LOOK at the community he was in charge of, it is still a slum run over with trash....yet he was given a million plus what? to clean it up....money all gone, and so is he.

Stories are popping up in towns across the country about how bad the new voting machines software can mess up and drop 18,000 votes in primary election and the possibilities of all kinds of glitches, actual votes switching over to opposite candidate especially in places where operators do it purposely by a click of a button. What is the point of voting. No paper backup to check. We are doomed folks.

Maybe the painter has already been told Obama will be president no matter how the vote actually tallys, the fix is already in. Sad day for America
