Palin's (Borrowed) 'Lipstick' Schtick

Sarah Palin's now famous "lipstick" joke from her acceptance speech Wednesday night is generating lots of buzz in Democratic circles and the liberal blogosphere. Not because of how funny it was, but because of its similarity to another (in)famous one-liner delivered by controversial evangelical pastor John Hagee.

Palin, who, like Hagee, is an evangelical Christian, had Republicans inside St. Paul's Xcel Energy Center doubled over laughing when she said, "What's the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick."

Hagee, in his book "What Every Man Wants in a Woman," wrote, "Do you know the difference between a woman with PMS and a snarling Doberman pinscher? The answer is lipstick."

(Just playing a little MST -- Mystery Sleuth Theater, in this case -- for a minute, we'd have to give Palin much higher marks for execution and audience appreciation of her joke.)

And remember, Hagee also called the Catholic Church "the great whore" and suggested in a sermon that the Holocaust was God's will. His last faux pas, in which he called Hitler a "hunter," forced John McCain to reject Hagee's endorsement of the GOP presidential candidate.

A Democratic operative who asked to remain anonymous alerted us to the striking similarity between Hagee's joke and Palin's. And we see that Chris Rodda was first to write it on the Talk to Action blog.

I'd have to guess it's an old joke of which there are numerous variations. Hagee didn't make it up either.

Oh come on. I took it to be an old familiar joke in Alaska that she guessed (correctly) we wouldn't have heard before. A nice little crowd pleaser that told us something about her role in the campaign (pit bull) but added a nice touch of Alaskan pop culture.

There are approximately one million objections to the McCain-Palin ticket but to me, this isn't one of them. Silliness.

Surely you are trying to be funny. I mean you call yourself "The Sleuth" and yet you deem this triviality as warranting a posting. I am a graduate of a university about which a great many jokes are told. However, those same jokes are often dressed up a little told about other groups. Same parts and particulars and the same punchline just a different target.

Surely you must know about this and you are merely trying to be ironic. Otherwise you should probably get outside the beltway and spend a few moments with some real folks. Folks who don't really mind being the butt of a good (or not so good) joke. And folks who are not perturbed if that same joke is used by someone esle about someone else.

Perhaps you should spend some time sleuthing about how close the spelling is between Palin and Putin. Now there is an interesting story.

Why are Democrats reading Hagee's book, and why did the "operative" need to remain anonymous?

Posted by: Anonymous | September 4, 2008 7:41 PM | Report abuse

If she a pitbull with lipstick on, who is holding the leash? Or do people in the US trust pitbulls running loose?

Pitbulls are known not to let go of their "prey", but would you trust a pitbull not to attack you child or yourself if his/her boss isn't there, whith the leash in hand?

Please go back to real journalism and stop actively seeking any little stupid negative tidbit you can get your hands on in order to slime Palin or help your candidate of choice, Obama.

Posted by: Cory | September 4, 2008 7:43 PM | Report abuse

Dude, of course it's not a 'real' objection to Palin, but this makes two points:
1. Repuke hypocrisy, it's a dig at the repuke attack on Obama 'stealing' phrases from his long-time friend and political ally Deval Patrick.
2. And Palin is a self-hating woman, she uses this anti-women joke to describe herself. How very Clarence Thomas of her.

I second those who find the joke a variation on a theme. No one may know the true origin.

However, it is the fact that she chose to use this joke is interesting. Do we really want a pitbull in Washington when we are trying to have bipartisanship to try to get past the logjam created by an administration that has been led by the head pitbull, Dick Cheney, and the second pitbull, the now retired Rumsfeld.

In some communities in this country, the pitbull is not a welcome addition to the environment. It seems that children and even older humans have been mauled by them, even killed by them.

And, all we need is to unleash another pitbull on the planet to represent us in diplomacy. As I understand it, pitbulls make lousy diplomats.

To attack the fourth estate, what does she hope to gain? The press will, and I repeat will, get the last word. The press is the eyes, ears, and, often, the voice of the people. I want a robust free press. Those who launch ill-advised attacks on the press are threatening us with another 4 years of propaganda, a direct assault on the Constitution. Afterall, the more we learn, the more we learn that the press has been a propaganda arm of the current administration. And we hate the Commies! How come we ape them?

Posted by: Earl C | September 4, 2008 7:58 PM | Report abuse

That joke has withstood the test of time - AT LEAST 30+ years. The version I first heard (in the 70's) was "What's the difference between a female lawyer and a pit bull?"

Do these libtards know how to say "Pathetic" in English?

I can't help but notice your "Smear Sarah" Schitck is very similar to the Daily Kos and many other popular Liberal blogs, including many with lengthy histories of anti-Semitism. Are you an unabashed anti-Semite, or do you just like to hang out with them and steal their lines?

A little sleuthing reveals that you have a consistent history of very quickly "legitimizing" Daily Kos diaries, a site which has openly called for the outright destruction of an underaged girl under the guise that the ends justify the means. A site whch has unapologetically stated that they would gladly destroy Bristol Palin to avoid a war with Iran, and that it would be a small sacrifice to make.

One must wonder: do you even care at all about journalistic integrity? Is the honest pursuit of news so beyond your reach? Or were you simply unable to land a paying job writing talking points for any major Democratic politicos?

The days are odd indeed when even the Tom Brokaws of the world are starting to worry about a partisanly Liberal media ruining the public trust in journalism..........

Sen. Biden’s Daughter Arrested in Altercation
August 04, 2002 in print edition A-15

The daughter of Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer outside a Chicago bar.

Ashley Blazer Biden, 21, of Wilmington, Del., was with a group of people on a North Side street where several bars are located when someone else threw a bottle at an officer, police said.

When police tried to arrest another person, Biden blocked the officer’s path and made intimidating statements, officer JoAnn Taylor said.

Biden was later released and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 20.

Sen. Biden’s spokeswoman, Margaret Aitken, declined to comment, calling it a private, family matter.

These conspiracies against Sarah Palin are really just manifestations of the worry that has swept over the Obama-supporters. She tried to pull a fast one and stole a pitbull joke! I think I see your problem here. You don't understand the concept of humor.

When Palin compared hockey moms to pit bulls, she was including herself in that category. I little thought indicates that she was referring to tenacity.

When Hagee made the joke, it was not self-deprecating, and was an explicitly negative comparison. It's the type of hatred-masquerading-as-humor that I've come to almost expect from many liberals, though it's not exclusive to that political viewpoint.

Anyway, you libs over at the Democratic Party newsletter (aka the Washington Post) stay classy.

Your not a sleuth, probably someone who went to a bias college on your parents money and got a degree, but knows very little about life. My analogy of you and your article is just as offensive as what you produced. Using your "CSI" skills you were able link Palin to someone else and include the word Hitler in an analysis of a joke about a soccer mom and lipstick. Wow, you should change jobs. Maybe you should be a community leader for bitter people with guns. U can give me credit for that quote.

I am rather dismayed by the republicans' level of coying. Any keen observer will see that both MacCain and Palin have nothing to say apart from working on what is already said by Obama. This morning I was very uset when i saw one republican trying to say " it is not that Obama doesnt care; he doesnt get it!" Why such a glaring lack of originality!

This one is much better ...

McCain and Obama go ice fishing. And for days on end, McCain comes back with fish and Obama none. Finally Harry Reid tells Obama that McCain is cheating so dont fish, just follow McCain around and find out how. Obama then reports back that he has caught McCain cutting a hole in the ice!

That a "respected" national newspaper would stoop to this kind of guilt by association, without acknowledging such variations, is embarrassing.

I'll bet Hagee and Obama both have told "knock, knock" jokes at some point in their lives. I guess that makes them soul-mates, right?

How this crap made it through the editors is beyond me.

The e-mail below has been bouncing around the Internet since Sunday. It was written by Anne Kilkenny of Wasilla - stay-at-home mom, letter-to-the-editor writer and longtime watcher of Valley politics. She's a registered Democrat. She was one of the delegates to the Conference of Alaskans in Fairbanks back in 2004. Her bio from the conference is here.

She e-mailed this letter over the weekend to family and friends Outside, and (despite her request not to post it) it went viral on the Internet very quickly, showing up on blogs and Web sites all over. Since then, Kilkenny has been inundated with phone calls and e-mails. She said she stayed up until 3 a.m. last night answering e-mails, and found nearly 400 new ones waiting when she logged on this morning.

It's posted here with her permission.

Dear friends,

So many people have asked me about what I know about Sarah Palin in the last 2 days that I decided to write something up . . .

Basically, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have only 2 things in common: their gender and their good looks. :)

You have my permission to forward this to your friends/email contacts with my name and email address attached, but please do not post it on any websites, as there are too many kooks out there . . .

I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.

She is enormously popular; in every way she's like the most popular girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and won't vote for her can't quit smiling when talking about her because she is a "babe".

It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents for seven months.

She is "pro-life". She recently gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby. There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.

She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.

She is savvy. She doesn't take positions; she just "puts things out there" and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.

Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin's kind of job is highly sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything like that of native Alaskans.

Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.

She's smart.

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000 (at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about 670,000 residents.

During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall campaign.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a "fiscal conservative". During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren't enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn't even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later--to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.

While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office redecorated more than once.

These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.

As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.

In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today's surplus, borrow for needs.

She's not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren't generated by her or her staff. Ideas weren't evaluated on their merits, but on the basis of who proposed them.

While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin's attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the Librarian are on her enemies list to this day.

Sarah complained about the "old boy's club" when she first ran for Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of "old boys". Palin fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally grateful and fiercely loyal--loyal to the point of abusing their power to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the case of pressuring the State's top cop (see below).

As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla's Police Chief because he "intimidated" her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska's top cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure and she had every legal right to fire him, but it's pretty clear that an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn't fire her sister's ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew her support.

She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn't like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.

Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything publicly about her.

When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great job which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this Commission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party) engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which some undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a gutsy fighter against the "old boys' club" when she dramatically quit, exposing this man's ethics violations (for which he was fined).

As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the "bridge to nowhere" after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.

As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative action restored most of these projects--which had been vetoed simply because she was not aware of their importance--but with the unobservant she had gained a reputation as "anti-pork".

She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a fiscal conservative.

Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah. They call her "Sarah Barracuda" because of her unbridled ambition and predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly stories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made point guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah's mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.

As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package of legislation known as "AGIA" that forced the oil companies to march to the beat of her drum.

Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to global warming. She campaigned "as a private citizen" against a state initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State's lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior's decision to list polar bears as threatened species.

McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a heartbeat away from being President.

There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more knowledgeable and experienced than she.

However, there's a lot of people who have underestimated her and are regretting it.

*"Hockey mom": true for a few years.

*"PTA mom": true years ago when her first-born was in elementary school, not since.

*"NRA supporter": absolutely true

*social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this because it was unconsitutional).

*pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to promote it.

*"Pro-life": mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation

*"Experienced": Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city administrator to run town of about 5,000.

*political maverick: not at all

*gutsy: absolutely!

*open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at explaining actions.

*has a developed philosophy of public policy: no

*"a Greenie": no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.

*fiscal conservative: not by my definition!

*pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built streets to early 20th century standards.

*pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on residents

*pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city government in Wasilla's history.

*pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union doesn't make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim that she is pro-labor/pro-union.

First, I have long believed in the importance of being an informed voter. I am a voter registrar. For 10 years I put on student voting programs in the schools. If you google my name (Anne Kilkenny + Alaska), you will find references to my participation in local government, education, and PTA/parent organizations.

Secondly, I've always operated in the belief that "Bad things happen when good people stay silent". Few people know as much as I do because few have gone to as many City Council meetings.

Third, I am just a housewife. I don't have a job she can bump me out of. I don't belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am no fool; she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this will cost me somehow in the future: that's life.

Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100 or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah's attempt at censorship.

Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid to say anything because they were somehow vulnerable.

I am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase in spending & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor) from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City of Wasilla, and I can't recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjust for inflation? for population increases? Right now, it is impossible for a private person to get any info out of City Hall--they are swamped. So I can't verify my numbers.

You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for the population of Wasilla, ranging from my "about 5,000", up to 9,000. The day Palin's selection was announced a city official told me that the current population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was 5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to 2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90's.

Well, it is clear that the religious fanatics have taken control of the Republican Party and their surrogate, Sarah Palin, was confirming that by copying Hagee’s joke.

Another scary thing about Sarah Palin and her husband is her close affiliation to the Alaskan separatist party, AIP, and her husband's membership.

Contrary to McCain's slogan of "Country First", AIP's motto is "Alaska First, Alaska Always". Isn't that unpatriotic and treasonous? Is Sarah Palin an AIP wolf under Republican skin? What does it say about McCain's judgment? Why did he choose a separatist family? These are very serious and legitimate questions that MUST be answered.

U.S. Attacks on Pakistani Territory Continue
Increase Decrease

September 5, 2008 (LPAC)--The inability of the George Bush adminstration to learn from its own strategic errors--such as the support for the British-led toppling of the Musharaf government in Pakistan--was demonstrated again today. A drone deployed by the U.S.-led ISAF forces in Afghanistan, fired several missiles into Pakistani territory today, in North Waziristan. The missiles hit a house, reportedly killing at least three children and wounding several women, according to local television reports. Some reports are saying that those killed were Talibani militants, and Army spokesman Major-General Athar Abbas said they are investigating the incidents.

As Lyndon LaRouche pointed out yesterday, the destabilization of Pakistan is the key British target at this time. Internal Pakistani reports are emphasizing the killing of civilians, and the entire situation is further isolating the Pakistani Army, a key national institution, and fostering internal dissension.

This strike was the third in three days on the Pakistani area bordering Afghanistan, following the raid on Sept. 3 conducted by U.S. forces, in which some 15-20 were killed. That attack was severely condemned by the Pakistani government and Parliament. Yesterday, another drone attack reportedly killed five militants in Pakistan

Your vicious, unfair, ridiculous savaging of Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter is directly responsible for the GOP's renewed political life. YOU WANTED TO AFFECT THE OUTCOME OF THE ELECTION? You have!"

Just my own single observation here:
Fox News was the FIRST and only network news media outlet that ran the story that was lie about her youngest child not being her's. Let me repeat that: FOX NEWS. I went to CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS to see if anyone else was commenting on it ........ NOT A PEEP! About 2 hours after I saw that report,(which I thought was despicable to report as even an "allegation") FOX NEWS came back and read the statement from the McCain Campaign about her oldest daughter being pregnant. I, again, went to CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, AND CBS to see if they had the same press release.

CNN was the second in line to pick that up ... MSNBC (you know, that radical left wing liberal media outlet!) didn't say anything about it at all for 2 DAYS!!! Then, it was no more than reading the press release with a straight face, no arched brows, no sneering smiles.

Since then, FOX NEWS has had the majority of comments on it ... including defenses, comments on the hate speech about it coming from the "left wing liberal media" and all the "what do you think" to every guest that appeared on their show about it.

Even CNN, who spent the next most amount of air covering it, tried to take a query approach along the line of "what does it say about McCain's judgment?"

Each of the three "major" (aka noncable) networks, had a couple of segments totalling about 15 minutes of air time each (if that) and MSNBC pooh-poohed it as anything to do with the campaign, issues, or of importance to the American people in deciding their choice for President.

Interestingly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and Laura Ingram have played this up on their radio shows ad nauseum!

So, when Palin says that the Eastern Left Wing Media is biased against her, is she referring to FOX NEWS? SEAN HANNITY? OR RUSH LIMBAUGH who have pounded on it hourly???? Interesting perception, she has. And, does her "whining" put her in the same position as Hillary's whining?

What happens when a "Pit Bull in Lipstick" whines? Does it eat its young?

Obama Had Close Ties to Top Saudi Adviser at Early Age
Wednesday, September 3, 2008 5:58 PM
By: Kenneth R. Timmerman
New evidence has emerged that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama was closely associated as early as age 25 to a key adviser to a Saudi billionaire who had mentored the founding members of the Black Panthers.

In a videotaped interview this year on New York’s all news cable channel NY1, a prominent African-American businessman and political figure made the curious disclosures about Obama. (See Video Clip Below)

Percy Sutton, the former borough president of Manhattan, off-handedly revealed the unusual circumstances about his first encounter with the young Obama.

“I was introduced to (Obama) by a friend who was raising money for him,” Sutton told NY1 city hall reporter Dominic Carter.

“The friend’s name is Dr. Khalid al-Mansour, from Texas,” Sutton said. “He is the principal adviser to one of the world’s richest men. He told me about Obama.”

Sutton, the founder of Inner City Broadcasting, said al-Mansour contacted him to ask a favor: Would Sutton write a letter in support of Obama’s application to Harvard Law School?

“He wrote to me about him,” Sutton recalled. “And his introduction was there is a young man that has applied to Harvard. I know that you have a few friends up there because you used to go up there to speak. Would you please write a letter in support of him?”

Sutton said he acted on his friend al-Mansour’s advice.

“I wrote a letter of support of him to my friends at Harvard, saying to them I thought there was a genius that was going to be available and I certainly hoped they would treat him kindly,” Sutton told NY1.

Sutton did not say why al-Mansour was helping Obama, how he discovered him, or from whom he was raising money on Obama’s behalf.

A Sutton aide told Newsmax that Sutton, 88, is ailing and is unlikely to do additional TV interviews in the near future. The aide could not provide additional comment for this story.

As it turned out, Obama did attend Harvard Law School after graduating from Columbia University in New York and doing a stint as a community organizer in Chicago.

The New York Times described how transformative his Harvard experience became for the young Obama: “He arrived there as an unknown, Afro-wearing community organizer who had spent years searching for his identity; by the time he left, he had his first national news media exposure, a book contract and a shot of confidence from running the most powerful legal journal in the country.”

The details of Obama’s academic performance are well known: At Harvard, Obama rose to academic distinction becoming the editor of the Harvard Law Review and graduating magna cum laude.

Less known are the reasons al-Mansour, an activist African-American Muslim, would be a key backer for a young man from Hawaii seeking to attend the most Ivy of the Ivy League law schools.

Khalid al-Mansour a.k.a. Don Warden E Google

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax from his home in San Antonio, Texas, al-Mansour said he would not comment specifically on the statement by Percy Sutton because he was afraid anything he said would get “distorted.”

“I was determined I was never going to be in that situation,” he said. “Bloggers are saying this is the new Rev. Wright — in drag! — and he is a nationalist, racist, and worse than Rev. Wright. So any statement that I made would only further this activity which is not in the interest of Barack.”

But in the lengthy interview, al-Mansour confirmed that he frequently spoke on university campuses, including Columbia, where Percy Sutton suggested he met Obama in the late 1980s, and confirmed his close relationship with Prince Alwaleed.

“I am not surprised to learn about this,” said Niger Innis, spokesman of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE). “It is clear that Barack Obama’s ties to the left are familial, generational, and have lasted for several years.”

Although many Americans have never heard of Khalid Abdullah Tariq al-Mansour (his full name), he is well known within the black community as a lawyer, an orthodox Muslim, a black nationalist, an author, an international deal-maker, an educator, and an outspoken enemy of Israel.

A graduate of Howard University with a law degree from the University of California, al-Mansour sits on numerous corporate boards, including the Saudi African Bank and Chicago-based LaGray Chemical Co. LaGray, which was formed to do business in Africa, counts former Nigerian President General Abdusalam Abubakar on its advisory board.

He also sits on the board of the non-profit African Leadership Academy, along with top McCain for President adviser Carly Fiorina, and organized a tribute to the President of Ghana at the Clinton White House in 1995, along with pop star Michael Jackson.

But his writings and books are packed with anti-American rhetoric reminiscent of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s disgraced former pastor.

In a 1995 book, “The Lost Books of Africa Rediscovered,” he alleged that the United States was plotting genocide against black Americans.

The first "genocide against the black man began 300 years ago," he told an audience in Harlem at a book-signing, while a second "genocide" was on the way “to remove 15 million Black people, considered disposable, of no relevance, value or benefit to the American society.”

In the 1960s, when he founded the African American Association in the San Francisco Bay area, he was known as Donald Warden.

According to the Social Activism Project at the University of California at Berkley, Warden, a.k.a. Khalid al-Mansour, was the mentor of Black Panther Party founder Huey Newton and his cohort, Bobby Seale.

Newton later had a falling out with Warden, who was described in a 1994 book as “the most articulate spokesperson for black nationalism” at the time.

The falling out wasn’t purely political, according to author Hugh Pearson.

“Sometimes Newton and the other members of (Warden’s) security detail got into fights with young whites who didn’t like what Warden had to say about whites. Rather than ‘throw down’ along with the security detail, Warden refused to fight,” Pearson wrote in “Shadow of the Panther: Huey Newton and the Price of Black Power in America.”

U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee of California entered an official statement of appreciation of Warden and his Black Panther colleagues in the African-American Association in the Congressional Record on April 23, 2007.

“Among the founding members (of the Association) were community leaders such as Khalid Al-Mansour (known then as Don Warden); future Judges Henry Ramsey and Thelton Henderson; future Congressman and Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums, and future Black Panthers Huey Newton and Bobby Seale,” the Democratic representative’s statement said.

Al-Mansour’s more recent videotaped speeches focus on Muslim themes, and abound with anti-Semitic theories and anti-Israel vitriol.

“Today, the Palestinians are being brutalized like savages,” he told an audience in South Africa. “If you protest you will go to jail, and you may be killed. And they say they are the only democratic country in the Middle East. ... They are lying on God.”

He accused the Jews of “stealing the land the same way the Christians stole the land from the Indians in America.”

The Saudi Connection

But al-Mansour’s sponsorship of Obama as a prospective Harvard law student is important for another reason beyond his Islamic and anti-American rhetoric and early Black Panther ties.

At the time Percy Sutton, a former lawyer for Malcolm X and a former business partner of al-Mansour, says he was raising money for Obama’s graduate school education, al-Mansour was representing top members of the Saudi Royal family seeking to do business and exert influence in the United States.

In 1989, for example — just one year after Obama entered Harvard Law School — The Los Angeles Times revealed that al-Mansour had been advising Saudi billionaires Abdul Aziz and Khalid al-Ibrahim in their secret effort to acquire a major stake in prime oceanfront property in Marina del Rey, Calif., through “an elaborate network of corporate shells in California, the Caribbean and Europe.”

At the same time, he was also advising Prince Alwaleed bin Talal in his U.S. investments, and sits on the board of his premier investment vehicle, Kingdom Holdings.

Prince Alwaleed, 53, is the nephew if King Abdallah of Saudi Arabia. Forbes magazine ranked him this year as the 19th richest person on the planet, with a fortune in excess of $23 billion. He owns large chunks of Citigroup and News Corp., the holding company that controls Fox News.

He is best known in the United States for his offer to donate $10 million to help rebuild downtown Manhattan after the 9/11 attacks. But after the prince made a public comment suggesting that U.S. policies had contributed to causing the attacks, Mayor Rudy Giuliani handed back his check.

"I entirely reject that statement," Giuliani said. "There is no moral equivalent for this (terrorist) act. There is no justification for it. The people who did it lost any right to ask for justification for it when they slaughtered 4,000 or 5,000 innocent people.”

Since then, Prince Alwaleed’s Kingdom Foundation has given millions of dollars to Muslim charities in the United States, including several whose leaders have been indicted on terrorism-related charges in federal courts.

He also has given tens of millions of dollars to Harvard and other major U.S. universities, to establish programs in Islamic studies.

The casual statement by Percy Sutton to NY1 is the first time anyone has hinted at a relationship between Obama and the Saudi royal family.

Although al-Mansour glosses over his ties to the Saudi mega-billionaire in some of his public talks, he has represented the Saudi’s interests in the United States, in Britain, and in Africa for more than a quarter century, according to public records.

He told Newsmax that he has personally introduced Prince Alwaleed to “51 of the 53 leaders of Africa,” traveling from country to country on the Saudi prince’s private jet.

He knows virtually every black leader in America, from the business community, to community activists, to the worlds of politics and entertainment.

When Michael Jackson was on the ropes in the mid-1990s following a series of lawsuits by the parents of children accusing him of sexual abuse, al-Mansour introduced him to Prince Alwaleed, whose Kingdom Entertainment signed a joint venture with Jackson in 1996.

“Jackson and Alwaleed became pals in 1994, when a mutual friend from Alwaleed's college days in California arranged a lunch meeting aboard the prince's yacht in Cannes,” Time magazine reported about the new partnership in 1997.

The mutual friend was al-Mansour.

“As a black American, I am exceedingly proud at the American people’s response to Barack Obama’s candidacy,” said CORE’s Niger Innis. “But to deny that he has long-standing ties to left-wing elements in our polity is to deny reality. If you want to be president of the United States, it is not racism if you ask these kind of questions, and he has to come up with an answer, hopefully the truth.”

Sutton gives no clues as to why al-Mansour would be raising money to help Obama go to law school. Obama has said during his campaign that he paid his way through Harvard with student loans. ELie?

For Jesse Lee Peterson, founder of the Los Angeles-based Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND), these latest revelations about Obama’s ties to Saudi financiers were an important wake-up call.

“To me, this opened up more questions about Barack Obama and his relationship to the Muslim world,” Peterson told Newsmax.

“A lot of people are caught up with the emotional aspect of Barack Obama, the movie star aspect, the false promises that he’s going to take care of everyone and their Mama.”

But when the full story of Obama’s ties to radical preachers such as Wright and to black Muslim leader Louis Farrakhan comes out, Peterson believes that Obama’s star power will fade.

“I think there’s more to this story and to Barack Obama than we realize,” Peterson said. “As all the truth comes out before the election, I don’t think he has a chance. I can’t see American’s taking that kind of risk.”

The Obama campaign did not respond to requests for comment.

Billgls, you do know that anyone ... I do mean anyone ... can write a story for newsmax and they are not always required to produce evidence of the facts to the editor in chief, right?

I can write a story about how you undermined McCain's career in 2000 by working for the dirty tricks department for GW's South Carolina campaign and how now, McCain has hired you to do the same against Obama.

I can make that seem so real that even you will wonder if you did it then or now.

Sam, is this a question to me? I'm a Republican and supported McCain in 2000 and Bush in 2000 (general election) and in 2004 was one of those Bushy's who was on the phone and passing out flyers for him. Interesting that you would make the assumption (if the question is to me) that I'm on the left.

Does that mean that McCain is now even further right me? Hillary supporters accused me of be part of the "vast right wing conspiracy".

After watching Sarah, my Republican friends are NOT VOTING her or McCain.

The pit bull analogy scared them, quite frankly. Well, that and her snarky, hateful, lying comments about Obama. Also, none of them would have exposed their daughters the way did Sarah did. They felt it was heartless and selfish to flaunt her shame to THE WHOLE WORLD.

Also, they were totally confused by Lieberman's appearance.

It is so funny to sit and read all of these! The democrats are so snide and they try to find any small thing to say about Palin or McCain. Making remarks about Palin's "gifted" child is taking it a little too far. As it was stated earlier, every candidates speeches were written by someone, even Obama!! Before you sling any more mud Democrats, look at your who you have elected. Some of you give all democrats a bad name....

Is it any WONDER that Governor Palin at this moment in time has a real aversion to talking with the press? The Obama campaign is brimming with 'anonymous operatives' who are more than willing to practice their deceptive politics of personal destruction. The GOP has got it right! They watched the Obama campaign and the liberal media demean, descredit and dismiss Senator Clinton's successful Presidential bid. They're not about to let that happen to Governor Palin and rightfully so. Obama and his campaign had better wise up -- the American people are fed up with this type of yellow journalism and will voice their disgust at both the media and Obama in November.

Remember -- the MSM isn't trying to present facts. They are trying to mold opinion. Planting ideas, starting whisper campaigns. Being insidious and conniving. It doesn't matter a hoot (to them) whether you believe their yap or not. What they want to do is plant an image, a stereotype, a caricature that your subconscious mind can record, and that can later be dredged up with yet another association to further their subversive brainwashing. That's what this article / commentary is all about. Not fact-pushing. They are leading you along with their flaxen cords; they hope you swallow it all.

Hear that giant sucking sound? That is the Collective Mind on MSM. The media hacks are laughing all the way to the polling booths. But The Mighty American Who Still Has a Grain of Sense will triumph. Pass the grain, please. Let no one go hungry. See you in November at the Thinking Man's Rebellion Against the Wily MSM.

This isn't the worst they can do. There will be more. Keep your grains about you.

If - Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

I am not suppose to judge and I won't. Being a Christian myself it saddens me when someone who calls themself a Christian stands before millions of people speak so bad about another human being and degrades Community Organizers who help the poor and disenfranchised. Jesus was the ultimate organizer, Jesus truly cared about the poor. The bible says "let ye without sin cast the first stone".

America is supposed to be a Christian country but I do not think look to Christian to other countries right now I would like to tell the politians knock it off please. I want to know how will you help us the people. Someone said that their opponent would rather lose a war in order to win an election. Well please do not lose Jesus and what he stood for to win an election.

In case the Christians do not know the word Christian means to be Christ-like but often we are everything but Christ-like. No wonder some people view Christians as hypocrites. We can be very judgemental and hateful, Not to mention racist and prejudice. Sunday is the most segregated day of the week, We work together all week than go to our ethinic churchs.

All I am saying is election day is important but judgement day is even more important; that is the day when we stand before God and give account of how we represented him and treated others.

God bless you and America

The Anchorage Daily News ran an interesting article on September 4th about Sarah Palin that I think all voters should read because it gives you a VERY good clue as to who she is. When Sarah Palin was elected mayor of Wasilla., the city librarian was asked to remove certain books from the library. When she refused, she received a letter that she would be fired.
It is disturbing that a person who chooses to ban reading material approved by the National Library Assoc., in promoting her religious views is being considered as VP of USA.
We can not allow this to happen.

Seriously, is this the best that the Democratic party & Obama has? To try & associate Palin to Hagee based on an old Alaska hockey joke? Palin said this to be humorous and to give us an insight at her personality. I say it worked. But if this is what the Obama campaign is using as a tool to associate Palin to Hagee then he's a hypocrit. I thought he's the "change" agent? These are the very politics Obama claims to be against, politics of division. McCain's VP Choice: Sarah Palin CALIFORNIA NOW:

Now the question Hillary Clinton posed in her speech at the DNC on Women's Equality Day really needs to be answered: were we in it just for her?
Were we in it because she was a woman, or because of what she stands for?

John McCain's choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is a clear move to get disenchanted Hillary voters to support the Republican ticket, but with Palin's frightening anti-choice, anti-marriage equality, creationist agenda, anti-LGBT views, she couldn't be further from Hillary Clinton.

Palin, Thought Hillary Was Whining

Jesus called us to die. You''re worried about getting hurt? He''s called us to die. Listen, you know we can''t even follow him unless you are willing to give up your life. ... I believe that Jesus himself operated from that position of war mode. Everyone say "war mode."

Kalnins has preached that the 9/11 attacks and the invasion of Iraq were part of a "world war" over the Christian faith, one in which Jesus Christ had called upon believers to be willing to sacrifice their lives.

He preaches repeatedly about the "end times" or "last days," an apocalyptic prophesy held by a small but vocal group of Christian leaders. During his appearance with Palin in June, he declared, "I believe Alaska is one of the refuge states in the last days, and hundreds of thousands of people are going to come to the state to seek refuge and the church has to be ready to minister to them."
