Palin for Veep, Joe the Plumber for Homeland Security

Given how many times he invoked Joe's name in the final debate, John McCain may as well announce he'll nominate Joe the Plumber to be Homeland Security secretary if elected president.

Joe the Plumber is otherwise known as Joe Wurzelbacher, who you can see here in this video confronting Barack Obama over his tax plan.

I am reminded of the story of the scorpion and the frog. Obama is the scorpion asking the American voters for their support.

Then 6 months into his presidency, and the voters are bitterly complaining that their taxes have skyrocketed and demand an explanation from the scorpion.

And Obama responds. “It’s my nature - I’m a democrat. But don’t worry, it’s only your wealth that I’m spreading around.”

The Daily Beast on Palin: "Kristol is one of the few conservative columnists whose support of Palin has been unflinching. He has used his space as a New York Times columnist to tout her candidacy repeatedly. But in the process Kristol has never bothered to disclose his role in the decision making process that led to the Palin pick. Kristol’s Weekly Standard has figured as Palin’s chief defender, and its writers have gone after even those who dare to pose questions about Palin’s candidacy. Bill Kristol, it seems, has much at stake in the Palin candidacy."

Please check into "Joe the plumber". He sounds like one of those silly plants to me that they have talk first to Obama so John McCain can go on and on ad nauseam about it during the debate.

The same silly vice pres. debate Palin used "can I call you Joe?"...that SNL caught too and spoofed.

One too many Joes for me...

It is such an unprofessional presidential election. Sad.

TONIGHT JOHN MCCAIN WAS VERY SAD AND VERY DISRESPECTFUL....

I'm not going to spend too much time on this, but McCain behaved, hmmm how can you explain it? How can I say this respectfully? No, I'll say it truthfully. McCain showed no respect at all tonight in his dealings with his colleague in the Senate.
Totally DISRESPECTFUL, BITTER, ANGRY, and CHILDISH. The throwing of the hands in the air, the rolling of the eyes, the snappy MEAN-SPIRITED REMARKS.

McCain truly earned the title of 'GRAMPY MCNASTY'. An angry bitter, mean, and ERRATIC old man. McCain emulated the sentiments of evil and vileness such as that of Sarah Palin and his followers tonite. McCain even defended those who call out for murder at his rallies.

WHEN ASKED IF HE WOULD CEASE THE NEGATIVE CAMPAIGNING MCCAIN GAVE NO ANSWER....

No implication that he would cease and desist. I've never seen anyone as hate filled uncivil and close to having a STROKE as I witnessed tonite in John McCain.

OBAMA COOL ABOUT MCCAIN ATTACKS.....

AND THE WINNER IS.......

Barack Obama answered the moderator and John McCain civilly tonite. He was respectful even when being disrespected he behaved SOBERLY AND WITH RESPECT towards John McCain, who truly did not MERIT such a response of LOVE, and almost SYMPATHY. Senator Obama BEHAVED himself WISELY.

Joe Sixpack, Joe the Plumber--both almost ruined my fondness for the name, except when I think of Joe Biden, whose grace, humor, warmth and intelligence they can't begin to touch. The same for McCain's creepy body language and rude manners split-screened against Obama's presidential bearing and level-headed replies. By the way, what was with the moderator for not calling McCain on his constant interruptions, chortles and snorts? Don't basic rules apply, as in H.S. debates?

Posted by: susan | October 16, 2008 4:56 AM | Report abuse

I sat and watched the debate with sorrow. I tried to listen to both Senators for their direction, guidance, wisdom and truthfulness. As an independant I must chose between an old, mean-spirited man that obviously showed no professional character and filled the minutes with baseless attacks... Important questions about our economy, oil dependancy, taxes, etc. where left with more attacks and absolutely no plan or direction... except a $5k tax credit. Whereas Senator Obama answered each issue with respectful and professional answers of direction and leadership. McCain sorry grinning, eye-rolling and flustering in his chair showed disrespect and unprofessional attitude to each question... Please Republican party, pull the plug on this senile old man and lipstick liar witch woman... and bring into the ticket someone with professionalism, character and values!

My vote will go to Obama/Biden! I honestly see him pointing our country in a better direction that McCain/Palin. Between the two of them... they have absolutely NO direction or NO principles in any of the critical issues facing us all today!

Be true to yourself and our children's children... don't send this country further down the toilet! Send McCain back to Arizona and Palin back to Alaska where they need alot more political learning! Especially the issues of this country!

Joe, Joe, Joe,...if you manage to buy the business you work for, you can take the majority of your compensation as a stock dividend which will be taxed as capitol gain (which is to say, about 15%).
If you owned that small business, you'd realize that the point of your quesion is largely moot. The $250,000 tax is on income only, get yourself a decent accountant, he'll set you up.
PS. Don't tell the people who are paying a much larger percentage of their much smaller paychecks in taxes. For some odd reason they are worried about us, can't imagine why.

Dee - I don't think that anyone can listen to Obama's discussion of his tax plan with Joe the Plumber, and compare it to Palin's discussion of the banking crisis with Katie Couric (where did health care reform come from?), and think that questioning Palin's credentials is without basis. You can disagree with Obama's position - fine. But to say he's unqualified, when he can present a nuanced defense of his plan while shaking hands with voters out on the street, is indefensible.

I don't believe either side is evil and both need to move forward from all of this emotionally-charged, hateful speech. I believe in lower taxes, a strong defense, I'm pro-life and definitely do not support socialized medicine. I am a registered nurse and have worked with healthcare professionals from all over the world. If anyone disagrees with me...fine, but no one deserves the vitriol that many of you spew..

I don't think this "Joe The Plumber" is very representative of America. Things being said of him:

-Has an $1,800.00 tax lien on him for back taxes owed the US Gov't. If he's going to be making >$250k, shouldn't he be able to pay the taxes he already owes?

-Isn't registered to vote

-A Bigot ("Obama dances like Sammy Davis Jr").

-A strong probability of being a plant.

Let's stop talking anecdotes and start talking analysis and specifics!

Obama was a statesman throughout the night.McCain was a tired old man, angry and somewhat crazed looking in his eyes. I actually felt sorry for him. Obama outspoke him and showed what a true leader is cabable of even under attack.

I hope the people continue to see the importance of supporting Obama for his leadership. He may not have all the answers andhe may do some things you don't like, but he will find a way to make this a better country. We need to show the world that this is not a racist country and that Americans vote for the best man who canchange not only this country but start changing how the rest of the world views us and hopefully end this stupid war. God bless Obama Barack.

Joe the Plumber is quite a guy, according to the Toledo Blade at this URL
http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081016/NEWS09/810160418

1. He's not a licensed plumber
2. He doesn't like taxes so much that he just doesn't pay them; there's a tax lien against him right now
3. He made about $40K a year in 2006, and though he certainly isn't making anywhere near the $250K ceiling on Obama's tax cuts, he's such a misguided wealth groupie that he's willing to be robbed right now by our existing tax structure in the HOPE that someday he MIGHT become one of the robbers.

This ridiculous view on tax policy is shared by a great many people living in trailers, rentals, highly-mortgaged and/or soon-to-be-foreclosed homes, who are being cheated by current Republican tax policy but play along because they imagine some day, they'll maybe own seven houses and thirteen cars just like John McCain. WAKE UP, PEOPLE!

Class warfare began with Ronald Reagan, and it's been the ultra-rich versus the rest of us ever since. Only Bill Clinton made a dent in the regressive tax policies Republicans hold so dear. Nancy Reagan is lying in a hospital bed today, and though she may have many worries, SHE has insurance and losing her home because she broke her pelvis is not one of them. Dick Cheney was in the hospital yesterday too -- same story. He doesn't have to worry about his kids going hungry or his mortgage going unpaid because HE has health insurance -- the same kind of federal health insurance pool Obama will create for the uninsured. WAKE UP, PEOPLE, WAKE UP!

Obama stands for a change for the American people who he sees needs it. McCain may had in the past stand for what he believed in but now he seems to stand for whatever change he needs to get elected. As i watched the last debate a thought came to my head Obama is young if he makes any mistakes as president it will haunt him for a long time even after his presidency. So i think he is thinking for the American people. John McCain on the other hand at 72 years old he may see this as his last chance to be better then his fathers. Keep in mind four years from now he will be 76 if he tries for a 2nd term 80 at the end of his term. This may may die the vice president may have to take power and he choose Sarah Palin as his running mate that was the first sign showing he does not care about the American people. For god sake he did not even know the woman! To make such "Maverick" moves was good for one thing to shock and to get vote from ignorant supporters who sees a woman as the only qualifications needed. The change i have seen from both camps is this, Obama works hard to relate to the people and hard on the real issues. I may not agree with all the things he says but at least i know he really want to try to change and help America. As for john the "Maverick" i think he want to have his dream of being president come true any mean necessary, even if he has to pick and unknown person even to himself as his running mate, and hold rallies with many ignorant people that seems more like a lynch mob. for more http://realissuesfortoday.blogspot.com/

It has now been proven that at the minimum, Joe the plumber is not a plumber, but a fraud and a racist, for his Sammy Davis comment. He may well have been a plant by the mcCain camp. It turns out that he only made $40,000 in 2006, according to a divorce decree. Sounds to me like the guy is just a big BS'er who likes to run his mouth. He can't even pay his tax lien he owes his state, $1100 plus dollars.

Posted by: majorteddy | October 16, 2008 10:12 PM | Report abuse

Joe the Plumber is yet another example of McCain's irrational exuberance, hot air bluster, and smoke and mirrors leadership style -- AND just how much trouble it can lead to. Joe isn't even licensed, and earning $40K a year, he certainly is in no position to buy at $250K business, even if that is the gross income rather than the net that would be taxable under any administration.

At least this is still only a campaign, and McCain isn't in the White House to be digging a deeper hole for us all to fall into.

Posted by: Ann Shannon | October 16, 2008 10:27 PM | Report abuse

Watching McCain's campaign is like watching "Plan Nine from Outer Space"...it's so bad it's good. His latest gimmick is "Joe the Plumber", who as it turns out:
1) isn't named Joe;
2) doesn't have a plumber's license,
i.e. "Joe the Plumber"...is just another lie. Throw in the apparently mandatory redneck flavor (tax-dodging racist) as a sop to the Palin crowd.

Maybe the late-night comedians are paying McCain off to keep THEIR jobs in this troubled economy.

Posted by: SarahImpalin | October 16, 2008 10:35 PM | Report abuse

I find it rather startling how any untruthful statement about anything or anybody can so quickly unravel through the modern marvel that is the internet.

Joe the Plumber, who was used as a beleagured figurehead by Senator McCain, turns out to be a poor slob who doesn't have the plumber's license necessary to own a plumbing company, makes only $40,000 a year according to filings in his divorce action (apparantly even his wife has given up on him), owes $1,400 in back taxes and does not even have the werewithal to purchase ANY company.

If John McCain was to have any possible chance of winning this election, (and that seems hardly likely with Annie Oakley as a Vice Presidential candidate who speaks in circumlocutions and doesn't even know what newspaper she reads to keep current) he has surely blown it by not keying in on the major issues confronting this country, principally the economy, health insurance coverage and a war whose ongoing cost will make the national debt unmanageable for years to come regardless of who is elected president.

We must all hope that when Obama is elected president,(and all indications are that he will), he will surround himself with a coterie of the finest minds in the county to help him steer this country into the position it held before the savaging done by the Bush/Cheney duo.

For 8 years, we have been embarassed and degraded by the incompetence and distinct lack of presidential demeanor of President Bush. Our relations with the rest of the world reflect this. Isn't it time for this country to be represented by someone who speaks well, is intelligent but not angry and nasty and reflects the diversity of this nation? After 8 years of Republican financial leadership, the current crisis demonstrates to me that the next president should be a Democrat.

We need real leadership to handle our problems; and although no one wants to pay taxes, everyone wants good roads, clean air, safe schools, police, defense, healthcare, and since Dubya did such a good job starting the wars the next president must deal with; are we willing to continue to sell our country to China to fund it all. Read this from another post on another site about Joe the Plumber's concern on 'spreading the wealth' and, boy, is it pertinent and TRUE. Republicans are alarmed at the very thought of spreading the wealth around BUT neither Republicans nor Democrates are too concerned about spreading the DEBT around. Right now a child born in the USA automatically inherits a debit sheet from his government for $86,000.
If 'spreading the wealth' around is called 'socialism' what is 'spreading the Debt' around called?? Stupidity, probably.
Think, people, think. A coin has two sides. Quit being so myopic.

With their campaign in the toilet, it's poetic justice that Joe, the unvetted Plumber, who it turns out is not a plumber after all, is the latest symbol of Republican incompetency. Couple that with McCain's futile attempt to smear Obama, and Palin's hide and seek from the media, it doesn't take a genius to figure out why they lag in this race for the presidency. At the very least, they should act decently towards Obama and Biden, but they can't even do that. Where are Huckabee, Thompson, Rudy, Mary Matalin, Ann Coulter? Even they have crawled back under their rock rather then endorse these two. The Republican stump is more like a political wasteland. Just this morning Newt was telling us how inspiring Palin is, but when asked if she was qualified, even he couldn't keep a straight face. It is astounding that the candidates are so embarrassed and ashamed of their own party's catastrophic eight years in office, that they are breathless from running away. Hopefully the end is in sight for Rush and the hateful base.
