You Tell Us: What's Next for President Bush?
At his final news conference of his presidency, President Bush gave no hints about his future plans. Politico's Mike Allen asked how quickly Bush expects to be "back at it" -- be it speaking, writing his memoir or traveling the globe -- after leaving office next Tuesday.
"Probably the next day," Bush said. "I'm a Type A personality. I just, uh, I just can't envision myself - you know, the big straw hat, the Hawaiian shirt, sitting on some beach."
The president paused while the White House press corps laughed before adding, "Particularly since I quit drinking."
This was just one of the highlights of an at times bizarre and rambling discourse of the ups and downs of his presidency, a Dick Nixonesque farewell -- you won't have Bush to kick around anymore -- though without Nixon's notorious self-pitying. (In fact, Bush made a point of mocking whiners. "Why me," he said, feigning self pity. "Oh the burdens..Why did the financial collapse have to happen on my watch? It's just pathetic, isn't it, self pity?")
For now, Bush isn't showing his cards on his post-White House plans -- other than to say he expects he'll make coffee for the former first lady on Wednesday morning. Which makes sense, since Laura Bush is the only one in that duo who has work lined up. (Mrs. Bush has sold her memoir to Scribner for a reported estimated $3.5 to $5 million.)
But the president has no book deal yet. And as you heard him say today at his farewell news conference, he's not sure what he'll do, Hawaiian shirt or no Hawaiian shirt, with or without a (virgin) pina colada in hand.
Our guess is he'll be so busy trying to raise money for his planned $300 million presidential library and "freedom institute" at Southern Methodist University in Dallas that he won't have time for much else. Tom DeFrank of the New York Daily News predicts Bush will "sign a seven-figure book deal to write his memoirs and will give paid speeches for a couple of years to boost retirement coffers."
We ask you: what do you think the self-described Type A 43rd President of the United States will do to busy himself after he leaves the White House a week from tomorrow? Will he get a seven-figure book deal, and when? Will he continue his "legacy campaign" to rebuild his reputation, which will forever be defined by the Iraq War? Will he also have to hire private lawyers to fend off investigations into his administration's actions on torture and other terrorism policies?
And will he take a hiatus from the public view, and for how long?
Send us your predictions, we'll post them (as long as they fall within the boundaries of good taste, of course).

He'd make a great shoe salesman.
Or he could lead the US Dodgeball Team to a World Championship!
He could Co-Star with Dick Cheney in a another "Gilligan's Island" movie. He'd be Gilligan, Vice as the Skipper. Mary Ann Akers as Mary Ann.
Let me know your suggestions for the rest of the castaways.

Geowge W. Bush will be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for (inadvertently?) exposing at his farewell press conference a possible covert plot that otherwise would have plunged the nation into tumult, riot and constitutional crisis.
By this neurolinguistic accident, he will have redeemed himself in the eyes of his Lord.

What's next for Bush?
In a perfect world, jail time in a cell shared with Cheney and Rumsfeld, under precisely the same conditions they signed off on for all those held at Gitmo.
In the real world, seats on corporate boards, big paydays on the right-wing rubber chicken circuit congratulating himself in front of the True Believers, lucrative book deals for self-serving hagiographies, and a life of wealth and leisure as undeserved as his Presidency.
Who says crime doesn't pay?

He is going to try to write a book, but he will never end this book.
He is going to be prepared to give a speech, but nobody is going to invite him.
He is going to prepare a drink for a friend, but nobody wants to be his friend.
And then, he is going to pass away alone, with no friends, but nobody will want to bury him.
We are going to remember him as a poor man, with no gifts, only desperate needs, but so much power.

I think George W. Bush will suffer from a postpartum depression upon leaving the office. It's true.
Not only that, but I also think he will be be happy to move into his house, compared to that little 2x2 they refer to as the White House. I'm visiting from out of the country, and I was surprised at how unlarge the White House is. Bush must have been REALLY conceding the past 8 years to live in a cottage like that.

3-Bush and Cheney could disappear : a suicide could be very welcomed !
4-Bush and Cheney could only retire and disappear somewhere between the first and the last of their own petrol fields !
5-Bush and Cheney could together become alcool-addicts and be forgotten by everybody and their own families and friends !

Bush and Cheney should be connected by leg-irons and frog-marched off to the Hague to face charges for waging an illegal war of aggression, for torture, for extraordinary rendition, and for countless other violations of the Geneva Conventions carried out under the Bush-Cheney Regime.
There will be quibblers and apologists who will say the Iraq war was approved by Congress and the UN, but they are wrong.
The apparent sanctions of Congress and the UN were obtained by fraud, and were therefore void ab initio... the war was fought to change the government of Iraq, a purpose expressly forbidden by treaties to which the United States is signatory, and defined therein as an act of aggression.

How about an INDICTMENT of both Bush and Cheney so we can gain at least SOME respect with the world and with ourselves for allowing this criminal to exist in the highest office of our nation for one hour after they ignored the warnings of a pending attack by Bin Laden.
This assministration ALLOWED and provided the opportunity, one might even assume CAUSED the worst attack on American soil in the history of our nation. These two incompetents should not be allowed to say they prevented attacks since 9/11 because all they did was intentionally destroy the infrastructure with incompetent appointees and reduced budgets for agencies they did not like or want; spy illegally on Americans by having their lawyers say it was okay; issue over 1000 "signing statements" to CHANGE LAWS which Bush actually signed into law and then removed parts or reversed their meanings IN SECRET so no one would know until it was too late to do anything; denigrate our National Guard by sending them to war and removing them from the homeland where they were trained to serve and should have been to help with the Katrina aftermath; pulverizing our economy with unprecedented military expenditures; creating an entirely unnecessary war based on "mistruths" or LIES; instituting TORTURE as a standard for our military, putting them in more danger of the same on top of breaking international law with complete and utter disregard for this standard long ago agreed upon by our nation and ultimately reducing world confidence and trust in the U.S to near zero in the remaining seven years in office.
PROSECUTION for these crimes and who knows what else should be the FIRST ITEM ON ANY AGENDA for this Reflublican and any others who assisted him.

I've read some of the above comments and hope that Mr. Obama continues to insist upon some form of communications that link him to the American people, he needs to hear our comments. Unfortunately, the Bush administration, like others was simply out of touch and reach with everyday people. I don't blame Bush entirely, responsibility rests within the people who voted him in office. "Some of whom are standing in unemployment lines and currently homeless" as we blog. The Florida voters stood up this time and said no more. The best thing for Bush to do during his retirement is to create some type of support group, e.g., foundation for the veterans and their survivors along with the parentless children in the U.S. and Iraq. Despite the horrific practices of Sadam and his administration, of which I by no means support, his actions never led to the hanging of our leader. All we had to do was simply support an overthrow of Saddam since wmd were not discovered. Bush needs to ask God for forgiveness and one day walk the streets and backroads of this country and see how real people truly live and measures they have undergone to survive during his administration. When you find yourself angry with Bush, glance through some of the publications, e.g., Time Magazine and Internet, take a hard look at the faces of the children of our veterans and parentless iraqi children aimlessly wandering the streets of Bagdad. I wish all of you peace, serenity and tranquility. In order for us to move forward, we must forgive the man. To not forgive consumes us only. May the God you worship bless you. I voted for Barack based on what I thought he said.
The idea of going further in debt - another trillion of unsound dollars, to encourage people to continue to buy what they cannot afford will supply the final nail in the ruin of our dollar. To continue unnecessary wars we cannot afford is unsound. To lower taxes (our only source of income)makes no sense. Cut Gov't spending. The only sound economic solution is so simple it's breathtaking. For my credentials link to my Web www.southwickhouse.com Henry Southwick Maxfield

What we think he WILL do: 1. Continue his "legacy tour," appearing at every podium wearing that belligerent smirk that always has seemed to us like a mix of school-yard bully and embarrassed teenager. 2. Attempt to get money for the Bush Library (although we haven't a clue what he'll put in it, since most of his documents will probably have to be shredded to avoid trial on war crimes or violation of our Constitution: think torture, renditions, warrantless wiretapping). 3. Go out to Crawford to "cut brush" when Laura gets tired of having him around. 4. Drive around Texas in his pickup with his white cowboy hat on, pretending to be one of us.
What we think he SHOULD do: 1. Work to improve the lives of all the veterans who have been so mistreated (particularly the ones with traumatic brain injuries, the "signature" injury of the Bush/Cheney war in Iraq, or the ones with PTSD; veterans with one or the other of these injuries have been encouraged to sign Section 513 discharges which later serve to deny them ANY medical help, and which indicate that their problems were "pre-existing" and not the result of war injuries. At last reckoning, over 22,000 veterans from all branches of the service had been treated in this vile, disgusting manner. Confirm at The Nation magazine). 2. Volunteer to help in Katrina rebuilding in New Orleans (the Episcopal Diocese of Eastern Oregon has a crew going over spring break -- pappy Bush is an Episcopalian so maybe junior could go in his stead).
What we think the WORLD should do: Bring charges against Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Rice for war crimes.
Thank GOD this nightmare is drawing to a close! Now we Americans have to face the wreckage these either incompetent and/or evil people have left for us, and hope that somehow America can repair her standing in the world - along with the economy!

This man was our president. The office demands respect. We elected him twice, we share in his guilt. We must examine how we went so wrong and figure out how not to do this again.
George Bush had a miserable childhood. I want mercy for him.
I don't want him to be humiliated any further. He had to duck two shoes, that is humiliation enough. I don't want any cruel and inhuman things done to him. Just kept out of sight, house arrest at Crawford, till he repents and does community service. He looks fit enough, he could come here to Louisiana and help build houses.
At least if he goes to the Hague, he won't be waterboarded, he won't be stripped nude or be attacked with dogs. He won't get capital punishment, something he gleefully imposed on fellow Texans when he was governor.
I can't wish for those things without becoming as bad as he was. An ideal sentence for our home-grown terrorist: house arrest at the ranch, with constant psychiatric and religious counselors. He can get rid of the ankle bracelet when he confesses to his war crimes and promises to not do it again.
As for Cheney and Rumsfeld, I'd like to see them dodge a few shoes too.
I'd like to see the Hague try Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld in absentia, to be jailed if they show up in countries with respect for humanity and the law.
