Upheaval at the RNC

After three days, the Republican National Committee is still unable to explain why its finance director abruptly resigned on Friday.

New RNC Chairman Michael Steele has been on a house-cleaning campaign to fire and replace most of the pre-election staff, including some who have worked at the committee for decades. But sources say Tim Crawford, a relative unknown in political circles who was hired in January as interim finance director, was forced out for other reasons having to do with allegations of impropriety by certain of his colleagues.

Reince Priebus, Steele's transition team chief, confirmed via email that Crawford stepped down Friday but he declined to discuss the reason.

"As a matter of policy, we do not comment on personnel issues," said Priebus, a lawyer in Madison, Wis., who serves as chairman of his state's GOP party.

Acting RNC staff director Blaise Hazelwood, who we're told requested Crawford's resignation, didn't return emails and phone calls seeking comment about the circumstances surrounding Crawford's dismissal. RNC spokesman Alex Conant also declined comment.

Crawford, who also has the distinction of serving as treasurer of Sarah Palin's new political action committee, SarahPac, could not be reached for comment.

Call Rush. It was probably something Crawford said.

Well golly gee,you can't lick your wounds and talk at the same time.
To me it's cyclical. All these things are.
Everyone's in a funk. The media hasn't told them what to do when it's no longer possible to be a Republican.
All I can say is it's like when you leave adolescence...voila, you're a grown up!

Our troubles started when Steel was SELECTED as chairman. Get rid of him ASAP.

Beware unnamed sources claiming "improprieties" on the parts of those carrying out "housecleaning" -- in these situations, the improprieties more typically come in the form of smear campaigns by those who are being weeded out and their allies.

Hey Akers don't you just wish you were a journalist? You and Chris sure do make a pair. Gotta work for the WP. Can't find a good job. Poor darlings.

Didn't you read the last line? He is part of Sarah Palin's political action committee. Isn't that enough?

Well let's see, the last guy before this was channeling $200k into a remodeling of Potomac McMansion.... couldn't be any worse than that.
