Michelle Obama Rocks

"Michelle [Obama] is so cool, she makes Jackie O look like Barbara Bush."
That was a one-liner from unemployed journalist (one of many) Shaun Waterman's hilarious routine at last weekend's "Reporters Without Borders" comedy show at the National Press Club in Washington.
Turns out, most of America agrees with him.
The globe-trotting, gift-giving fashionista in chief gets high marks fresh off her debut overseas, where she was treated as a rock star and managed to charm the French into putting their own famous first lady, Carla Bruni Sarkozy, on the back burner.
A new CNN poll out this morning shows the vast majority of Americans -- 80 percent -- think Mrs. Obama "strengthened the U.S. image abroad by the way she handled herself on this trip."
The first lady scored a teensy 1 percentage point higher than her husband. Seventy nine percent of Americans feel President Obama strengthened the U.S. image abroad during his European trip.

Much nonsense was written about Jacqueline Kennedy in her time and the liberal press hacks are trying hard now to make a new Jackie of Mrs. BO. More to the point would be a comment from Michelle as to whether she still considers the United States to be a "mean country." The least a "first woman" could do is to be proud of the country she supposedly represents.

Please get little mary ann (no caps = no respect) a big towel to mop up all her drooling and slobbering. While Jackie was a "class act", MeeShell is a "low class act". No contest, no comparison.

zimmern (I strongly question the "dr."), mhr, and segeny:
Your disparaging comments about our First Lady are quite the reflection of how you feel about yourselves. Why would people spend so much time deriding another person unless they feel so awful about themselves? Like it or not, Mrs. Obama is an erudite, Ivy League-educated, accomplished woman in her own right, who was employed in a $300k position at the prestigious Univ. of Chicago before signing on to her husband's campaign. That she experienced racism on her path (which likely informed her perception that this country is "mean") makes her trajectory even more impressive. She has succeeded despite racism's ugliness and that should make every American proud. I suggest those of you who make sport out of criticizing her get over your pitiful, small selves. Your negativity hurts noone but yourselves. The rest of us will celebrate her and revel in her popularity. The Obamas Rock!!!

I think Michelle Obama is great. I gotta admit though I can't deal with that dress she wore in Czechoslovakia. What am I missing about it?

I think she's a great representative of our country. No doubt there will be many unkind posts stating the opposite, but I think she is a breath of fresh air!

Michelle represents America and mothers. It is a winning combination. After all, what mother also acts as a leader? We all recognize something in her that just will not go away. Barack was no fool.

Jacqueline Kennedy was a beautiful stylish woman from old money. Michelle Obama has some way to go to reach those heights of fashion and elegance but she's made a good start. I am proud to have her represent America overseas. She has spoken with great pride and love for our country - something that is missing form the first three hateful posters who can't get it through their thick skulls that Obama was elected by a sizable majority voters and that is what our nation is all about. He's our leader. Get over it.

The more I learn about Michelle Obama, the more proud I am to have her as First Lady of America. She is a beautiful, gracious young woman, and she makes a lovely ambassador to the world. Like her husband, I expect great things from her, and I have no doubt that she will have great success as First Lady.
newageblues: I agree regarding the dress that is shown in the picture above. It doesn't really appeal to me, either. On the other hand, Michelle Obama does have an amazing figure and could probably wear a potato sack and make it look like haute couture! So far, most of her outfits have been stunning. I especially loved her inauguration ensemble.

I am a 57-year-old white woman who was raised in rural Mississippi. Jim Crow was the norm then and probably still is in some places. I voted for Barack Obama, and I cannot explain it, but it has been a profoundly proud and moving experience to watch him and Michelle as they represent our country both here and abroad. Any thinking person knew immediately that her comment about "finally being proud of my country" had everything to do with being black in a white racist country, a perspective that no white person could ever have. I remember things from 40-50 years ago that make me shudder today. Maybe that is why I, too, finally proud of my country and our first family today.

Michelle Obama worked her way up through school including a Princeton undergraduate degree and a Harvard law degree. She cares deeply about her family, education and the doors it opens to people and her country. Regardless of what she wears, I think she is a superlative representative of our country.

I am a 65 year old white woman who thinks this beautiful first lady is the best. Brains, beauty, graciousness and a beautiful heart, how lucky we are. I really don't care what she wears, her smile is enough for me.

Thank you, 57-year old white woman, you´ve hit the nail on the head! What ever a person experiences and records resultant feelings, is personal. No one can deny that feeling.
I was ashamed of Amy -----, an obviously coloured woman, a pundit on CNN´s Wolf Blitzer, excoriating Michelle for her comment, saying that she, Amy, had always been proud of America, implying that she had never experienced racism, as Condoleeza Rice also said. They must be the only two! Larry King understood what Michelle meant, and he is a white MAN.
So many people are pretending that they are familiar with the Queen´s tastes and royal protocol but their outbursts display their ignorance.
Mrs Kennedy was classical and elegant, Mrs Obama is original and elegant, (despite the white bow in Prague), and obviously made an impression on the Queen and the other First Ladies.
So look on and weep, all you with small minds, limited experience and understanding. Try to open yourselves to this couple who are trying to restore intelligent behaviour and principles to government.

Segeny: The quotation marks come AFTER the comma and period--not before. Its really low class of you not to know this.

Michelle Obama is her own woman, strong, with confidence in herself. She demonstrated through her words that she has never been ashamed of her intelligence and worked hard to get her education. She is her husband’s partner in this journey they are on and she puts her children/family first. She is a role model for young girls and women not just in the U.S. but all over the world. She gained much respect during this first official overseas trip, for herself and for us. She and President Obama are doing a great deal to rebuild respect for the United States around the world, something we were in need of. I think she did a great job, looked great (as she always does) and will continue to represent us as First Lady in a way that will continue to make America proud and she will continue to be herself.

Personally, I had no problem with the white bow outfit. The largely black and white travel wardrobe also saved her money because she could mix and match. One wag did complain about this, from the foreign press I think. As one who has had a real need for this kind of dressing, I think she was smart, and looked smart too.
Ok, so I am not a Pollyanna and I have to say the blue dress and sweater she wore that day at the Royal Opera House, especially in the picture with the other wives, was overpowering. It did not show her to her best advantage, in my opinion. She may have felt like she attended the wrong meeting because she is usually a decision-maker, not follower.
Also, she wore some items more than once. Oh the scandal of it all. Good for her, I say! And did you notice how drop-dead gorgeous she was at the NATO evening events? I love her hair with bangs too, very feminine. The new hair style was most becoming. Yes indeed, Michelle Obama Rocks!

Our country, our world, is blessed to have this gracious couple serve us. All this attention to dress is off base and has nothing to do with what they can do for the world if they have our encouragement and appreciation. Looking inward to make sure we are doing our best seems to be a better use of our time.

Michelle rocks. I'm sure the President and her children are proud of her. I think the 57 YO White lady from Mississipi knows exactly what Michelle was talking about when she made that comment. There are times when I'm not so proud of America and some Americans. History shows that America, in the name of "freedom for America" has taken stands for things that are not always humane for people at home and for the rest of the world. But no one, and I mean, NO ONE loves America as much as I do.

normally the fashion page is a section that i would not read but i have tried to catch up on reading from a much-needed vacation, and figured that "beltway" reading would provide some diversion from more important fare. (i live far away, in the pacific northwest). i have followed michelle obama's trajectory as keenly as her husband's, not for fashion's sake, but because i was interested in how someone like her would be handling a transition from a professional career to that of first lady of the usa.
for what it's worth: i think michelle sets a TREMENDOUS example for most of us who try to balance professional education, family, etc. that she wears clothes well makes me happy. but what makes me happier, frankly, is that this is a woman who does not care too much about how her hairstyle looks, how her muscles look, etc. i am far happier knowing that she is interested in our veterans, in her children, in her husband, and in world events. with due respect to jackie kennedy, the world was much different for women then, especially those who shared her breeding and advantages. ms. obama studied hard, achieved much, put it aside for the sake of her kids and her husband, and now cares about causes that aren'ts so glamorous: veterans, good food for children, etc. bravo for her!

Michelle Obama does not see herself in the same light of Jacqueline Kennedy nor does she think she has to emulate JK. MO's panache and verve reminds people of JK understandably.
As far as the Right wingers branding of her is concerned, it does nothing but expresses hatred-ness that is purely based on oblivious old prejudices. We can only pity the undeveloped minds. Rock on Michelle!!!!!

I HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE FIRST LADY. SHE SAID FROM THE START THAT HER FIRST RESPONSIBILITY WAS TO HER FAMILY AND SECOND TO THE FAMILY OF VETERANS.
FOR A WOMAN WHO DRESSES FROM J CREW AND UNKNOWN FASHION DESIGNERS, FASHION IS NOT ON HER LIST. STOP MAKING HER A JACKIE O. JACKIE HAD FASHION AND MONEY AND IT WAS AT THE TOP OF HER LIST AS WELL AS AT THE TOP OF NANCY REAGAN'S LIST.
MO IS NOT EXTRAVIGANT. LOOK AT HER ON HER KNEES DIGGING DIRT AND PLANTING A VEGETABLE GARDEN. HER OWN CHILDREN ARE DIGGING AND PUSHING A WHEEL BARROW ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE KIDS. SHE IS REDUCING THE COST OF FOOD IN THE WH TO SERVE ON THOSE $500,000.00 DINNER SET PURCHASED BY THE BUSH WHITE HOUSE.
IT'S TRUE THAT THIS IS A WONDERFUL COUNTRY. WITH THE ELECTION OF THE PRESIDENT WAS THE FIRST TIME I WAS "REALLY" PROUD. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PROUD AND SERVED MY COUNTRY BUT THIS ELECTION MADE ME EVEN MORE PROUD.
IT IS TRUE THAT WE ARE A HATEFUL PEOPLE. YOU CAN SEE THAT FROM THE COMMENTS. THE SAD THING IS THAT THERE ARE MANY MORE AMERICANS WE CAN BE PROUD OF AND WHO WORK HARD TO MAKE THIS THE GREATEST COUNTRY THAN THOSE WHO ARE HATEFUL AND TRYING TO TEAR IT DOWN. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THAT THE GOOD PEOPLE DON'T MAKE THE NEWS. THE BAD STUFF IS REPEATED SO MUCH UNTIL PEOPLE BEGIN TO DISPAIR. THEY ARE LIKE A FESTERING SORE IN OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HERE AND THANK GOD THERE ARE FEWER THAN THERE USED TO BE.

Thank you, Ru Serious for your comment; I agree with you one hundred percent! dr. zimmerin, mhr614 and segeny your comments are the words of three unaccomplished , illiterate and uncultured, individuals!
It is obvious you're envious! Anyway, it does not matter since the three of you mean nothing in the whole scheme of things! The three of you are of no real consequence!
MEDIOCRITY ALWAYS ATTACKS EXCELLENCE !!!!

It is very difficult to believe the accuracy of these strange polls gushing about Michelle Obama. She is no Jackie Kennedy. Michelle is tall, muscular, and went to England and wrapped her arm around the Queen. Otherwise, nothing she did there was outstanding. Its time for biased journalists to stop building an imaginary
person. Here's another puff piece.
