For GOP, It's Newt as the Draw

Taking a page out of the Democratic fundraising machine's recent playbook, Republicans, too, are offering one of their lucky donors a free trip to Washington.

But the GOP contest differs in a few stark ways. It's charging contestants ten times more than the Democratic entrance fee, to start with. And, of course, the GOP isn't promising a night with Barack Obama, as Democrats are.

Instead, the lucky Republican winner gets dinner with GOP poster-boy Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker who is positioning himself as a 2012 presidential contender.

"If you've ever watched Newt on TV and thought 'I'd like to meet this guy,' this is your chance!" reads a fundraising solicitation e-mailed today from Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Sessions says he has reserved two seats at Gingrich's table at the June 8th Senate House fundraising dinner for the winner and his or her guest. All it takes to enter the drawing is a contribution of $50 or more.

Democrats have been touting their own contest: $5 gets anyone who wants a chance to attend the joint House/Senate Democratic fundraising dinner on June 18 and have a photo taken with President Obama.

Democrats claim to be all too happy to have Gingrich be the face of the Republican political fundraising machine.

"What better way to illustrate how stuck in the past the Republicans really are then by offering people the chance to have dinner with their disgraced former speaker Newt Gingrich to celebrate their 'Party of No' style obstruction to President Obama?" asks Ryan Rudominer, spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

AWESOME! Newt is a world-class hypocrite who delivered divorce papers to his wife at her hospital bedside where she was being treated for cancer.

Newt's ideas, and NEO-CON philosophy are FAILED and were rejected by voters in the Obama landslide... He will forever be rejected by the majority of voters because Newt loves the sound of his own voice and get's caught in hypocrisy again, and again.

The only person better than Rush Limbaugh to lead the NEO-CON 20% of the nation - the uneducated deep south.

Newt Gingrich as the "new" face of the New Republican Party-Huh!

Sounds great for the Democrats. The number one problem facing the GOP is entering the new century. Narrow minded religious philosophy (anti-stem cell, anti abortion, anti gay, anti evolution, anti sex education)will keep them from being a reputable party. Everything is anti oe NO.

Cheney today is a lunatic, listen to what he says. No the Republicans need Limbaugh, Hannity and the other whackos, otherwise no one would hear about them, even if it is all negative.

Nast disgusting Newt face of the GOP. I'm loving it!

Newt Gingrich, the serial philanderer and multiple-time divorcee, is the big draw for the Republican party? The same Republican party that wants to tell gay people they have no right to marry? Good work folks. All you need now is Dick Cheney running his mouth about how to run the government. He already is? Good. The GOP is now DOA.

And here comes a REAL-PUBLIC-an...

The Republicans are charging more? What's your point? Maybe because Repulicans can afford it because they WORK! Obama literally recruited HOMELESS AMERICANS to vote for him... It's like staying in a Cheap Hotel or a Good Hotel... Which one would you really rather stay in?

Once again a MINDLESS article, there is No Point to it! So what if we charge more? Obviously it's all about Money or Obama would've NEVER been able to buy the homeless vote and the election!

I guess the biggest difference is the 2 guest get Dinner w/ Newt or you can get your Picture taken for $5.00, I'm sure that I'd rather pay to go to dinner for 2, I imagine that it won't be Mcdonald's...

Newt? You mean the moralist who hounded Clinton for the Lewinsky thing while having an affair of his own with a congressional aide? The serial philanderer posing as a beacon of "moral values"? That same guy? LOL

Wasn't he convicted of several crimes while in office and forced to resign?

Republicans are such laughable hypocrites!

The GOP pushing NEWT!!! Let's see Limbaugh, Cheney, NEWT, Oki-Doughki$$$! get it. Yep, I got it, The GOP at $50-buck a head, You will have the honor to sit with the man who is one of the worst elected officials in GOP history. The way I view it from Afarrrrr, let them eat their rubber chicken and continue to blaze a path to an even larger Democrat lead Senate and House.
The GOP leadership just doesn't get it. Steele has his job as RNC Chairman, not because of his abilities to Lead, but because of his Color of his skin. Look and see who is pulling his strings...
I believe the Geico Gecko will have a better chance of beating Obama, then any Republican candidates the GOPERS send out in 2.5 yrs. What is in the water that the GOP leaders are drinking? Beats me?

Newt Gingrich was cited 83 times for ethics violations, and paid over $300,000 in fines for his crimes, and delivered divorce papers to his wife at her hosptial bedside where she was being treated for cancer, before he left government in disgrace.

Let's HOPE Newt and Limbaugh battle it out for leadership of the NEO-CON rump of the deep south.

Loud railing against the reactionary right has only short term benefits, which is ok as far as it goes. The problem is that the stake has yet to be driven into the evil heart of the Right-wing Republican Reactionary (RRR) agenda. Bush/Cheney accomplished most of the pre-conditions for a fascist state: a muzzled press, a supine Congress and Courts, wiretapping and spying on Americans, and the wholesale marketing of an us-against-them fear mentality. The one thing they didn't do was declare martial law and suspend elections. The next fascists, maybe another 30 or 60 or 80 years from now, have the Bush/Cheney precedent to build on, and will have a much easier time declaring martial law and suspending elections, unless we crush them now. Newt runs with the RRR criminals of the previous administration.

Fortunately one can avoid the questionable pleasure of Gingrich's company at dinner by not contributing the $50. I can't imagine he and I would have much to say to each other anyway since I'm not rich and my IQ is above 70.

Newt Gingrich as a role model? How many people would want him to meet their family? He's cheated on a sick wife, has been fined by the ethics committee (which is a difficult thing to do) for starters.
I love the disconnect with these guys who talk as if they have an entirely different history. Cheney the 5 X draft dodger and Newt the corrupt politician out to save us from those nasty liberals.

BLOW THE HORN PEOPLE… HAVE ALL YOUR PUERTO RICAN FRIENDS TUNE INTO SEAN HANNITY’S “SEAN’S HANNITY AMERICA” TONIGHT.

WE KNOW SEAN HANNITY WILL BE BLASTING MRS. SOTOMAYOR TONIGHT. FINDING ANY AND EVERY KIND OF DIRT WHETHER TRUE OR NOT.

THAT’S BECAUSE HANNITY IS A COMMENTATOR AND NOT A REPORTER. REGARDLESS OF WHAT HANNITY DECIDES TO BE ANY DAY IS BEYOND MY CONTROL.

WHAT I CAN CONTROL IS, HAVING PUERTO RICANS WATCH HIS SHOW AS HE ATTEMPT TO TAINT MRS. SOTOMAYOR.

PASS THIS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILIES PLZ…

DOES ANYONE HAVE THE ADDY FOR THE PUERTO RICAN CHAT ROOMS?

I DO, I DO… BAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

PEOPLE ARE NOT GOING TO CARE MRS. SOTOMAYOR EXPERIENCE. I EXPECT MILLIONS OF PUERTO RICANS TO COME OUT AND PROTEST THE REPUGNANT PARTY FOR ATTACKING THE WOMEN HERO.

YOUR ATTACKING A GROUP OF PEOPLE WHEN YOU ATTACK MRS. SOTOMAYOR. THIS IS A DONE DEAL AS FAR AS THE HISPANIC VOTE IN 2012 GOES.

PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS WRAPPED THOSE UP WITH THIS NOMINATION. BECAUSE NO MATTER WHAT… THE REPUGNANT PARTY WILL ARGUE THE PRESIDENT’S DECISION.

MR. OBAMA KNOW’S THIS AND WILL BE PLAYING OFF THE REPUGNANTS PARTY IGNORANCE AND STUPIDITY IN HIS DECISION MAKING.

Say goodbye to the wonderful U.S.A I knew over my lifetime. A few more elections and the wake will be inevitable.
Both parties suck! They sound like two small boys fighting over a dead cat!
The only thing left of my country are the silent majority who have been screwed over by both parties. Nothing in Washington but a bunch of self serving, lying, big mouths.
Ross would have won this one, too bad he did not see fit to run, or maybe he was too smart.

Newt as a major draw proves my theory that the GOP is a group of people who do not learn from experience. They prefer their own reality, more like a cult than a serious political party that can govern.

They demonstrated their inability to govern over the last 8 years.

Personally, I would be honored to have dinner with Newt Gingrich. His intellect and knowledge of history dwarf most of the "chattering class" in Washington and he would be a formidable candidate in 2012, as BHO continues to overexpose himself politically in his rush to recreate the USA into a Western European Socialist democracy. Newt gets his facts straight before he speaks. Americans will soon realize that this administration is weak on national defense and national security, has systematically taken over the car and banking industries and eroded our individual freedoms in its rush toward socialism. Additionally, my fellow bloggers continue to misunderstand and misuse the term "neoconservative." This term is defined as former liberal Democrats, mostly jewish, who became conservative. It is a vaguely anti-semitic term. Newt was never a Democrat and was a Protestant most of his life until recently, when he converted to Roman Catholicism.

Newt is a still a man with good ideas. Despite the fact that he may have stepped off the straight and narrow, look at Bill Clinton!! I would pay a great deal more than $50 to have dinner with Newt. The public discourse needs more men like him.

After all this time, Newt's recent comments on Judge Sotomayor show that he is still the stereotypical Republican white guy jerk. He's speaking to a tiny group of True Believers, the SS of the GOP. Keep digging, Newt.

Where moral leaders hesitate, the ethically challenged politicians like Newt barge right in. Was a time when if a politician were caught with his fingers in the public cookie jar he would have the good grace to slip quietly into retirement and, maybe, write his memoirs; not so today.
And the puzzling thing is electorates the world over welcome them back.
And we the public wonder why 'the people' have the corrupt governments looking out for friends, cronies and those who pay.
Seems to me that the lack of scruples in those who lead or propose to do so is a dangerous thing for any Democracy.
What does this say about the Republican Party that they are embracing Newt. Most must be holding their collective noses and using a lot of febreze.

You have to keep in mind that they STILL think, nearly 30 years later, that Reagan was a good president.

The guy who set the tone for the current crop of morons known as Republicans. Remember the welfare queen ? How about Iran/Contra ?

Criminal acts, deficits, painting those less fortunate as criminals, waging war on the middle class, the list goes on and on and on.

The one thing that has remained the same is that Republican government is bad for our country. Reagan lowered the bar for intelligent presidential material to the point where George W. Bush could slither under it and continue the work that Reagan started of destroying our country. Gingrich is a little smarter than Bush (not saying much there, am I, as I feel that my cat is smarter than Bush and all she does is lick herself all day)but is just as slimy. He apparently hasn't heard that dumb as leadership has expired. It went out with Sarah Palin, McCain, and W.

Thank God. Now if we could just flush McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, Sessions, Cornyn, Foxx, and a few others, we'd be doing OK.
