Tom DeLay Dances Back Into the Limelight

(Photo credit: Chris Greenberg -- Bloomberg News)

Who knew that Tom DeLay was such a dancing machine? The former House Republican leader has been selected as a contestant on the upcoming season of "Dancing With the Stars," joining cultural celebrities such as Grammy award winning singer Macy Gray and '70s icon Donny Osmond.

One thing is clear: the entire DeLay family is ecstatic about the Hammer's transformation to Dancing Machine.

"He's been working hard all summer trying to get in shape, improve his flexibility, endurance, etc. He's lost 12 lbs already!" daughter Dani DeLay Ferro, Dad's former campaign manager, said in a message to the Sleuth via Facebook. "He's taking this very very seriously and we are all sooooo excited! People probably don't know that he's a really good dancer!"

Daughter Dani said she's most excited "for America to get to know the funny, caring man that I've grown up with and worked for. They won't know what hit 'em!"

As Washington Post TV columnist Lisa de Moraes has reported, DeLay's involvement with "Dancing With the Stars" goes back to 2007, when he heavily lobbied the show's viewers to vote for the seemingly wholesome country singer Sara Evans. That all backfired on the Hammer when Evans quit the show in the midst of a nasty divorce in which she accused her husband of verbal abuse, alcoholism, watching pornography in their home and keeping photos of himself having sex with other women.

DeLay Ferro said the slimmed down former congressman, whose ironclad style of rule over House Republicans earned him the nickname "The Hammer," begins rehearsal tomorrow in Sugar Land, Texas, his hometown.

In a few weeks, Dad will relocate to Los Angeles, where the show is filmed. The first show airs Sept. 21.

"He'll stay there until he is voted off which, I hope, isn't till the November finale!" DeLay Ferro told us.

Who's next? Cheney? Rove? Yoo? Gonzales? Glad I have cable - I can watch reruns of Barney Miller or something else to make me laugh. No laughs when I look back at the Tom DeLay days in government.

That's definitely one episode I won't watch. The thought of this booze-bloated thug shaking his fat behind on a dance floor is nauseating.

It would seem the executives of that network are mental giants- NOT. The man with his roach spray canister should virtually exterminate the viewing audience down to the hardcore 29% right-wing.

One can see from the freaks here that the left knows nothing but pure hatred, vitriol, and intolerance anything or anyone who disagrees with them, even when it comes to something as silly as Dance Show.

Pitiful little people.

Dancing with the "stars"? I didn't know disgraced former politicians where "stars". Can I have his autograph? He is soooo hot. Delay, tell us who you wearing tonight?

Tom DeLay dancing???

Can Rush Limburger in a tutu be far behind??

Maybe they can have a neoCon month, where all those scurrilous thugs can dance with each other.

Thank God for televised baseball.

Woe!

Everyone who made these comments needs to chill out a bit.

The guy is going to do some dance.

Maybe it will bring him closer in touch with his homosexual side.

They should change show name from "Dancing With the Stars," to “Dancing With Crooks, Devils and schemers”.

I am sure I'll NOT be watching it.

It will be a thrill to see Tom Delay make a fool and an embarassment out of himself.

He's obviously hard up for cash or why would he become such a clown.

Yuck.

Having accomplished the two-step with Ashcroft and the cha-cha-cheat with Abramoff, I think DeLay entirely too good for this atrociously amateurish show.

In all seriousness, anyone who watches this drivel becomes complicit in the continuous erasure of value and principle in the American public sphere (what's left of it).

Tom DeLay was one of the most evil men to ever sit in the House of Representatives. He cared about nobody but himself, tried to make himself look strong by bullying the weak, and engaged in criminal behavior that should have landed him in prison for 20 years. The saying "break a leg" goes double for me, but that is barely enough punishment for this conservative christian, who will rot in hell with Satan.

It says a lot about somebodies total lack of judgement of what is appropriate when putting people before the public whose actions have erned themselve a place in obvilion from decent citizens.
