Update: EnviroCAB Gets Green Light

Virginia's Arlington County last night granted enviroCAB, the right to operate an all-hybrid vehicle taxi fleet.

The firm, which I profiled last month, expects to have its Ford Escape or Toyota Prius cars on the road by December.

"We are thrilled to be given the go ahead to be able to provide those in Arlington County with a choice in taxi cab service," said enviroCAB partner Hans Hess. "We will effectively emit zero carbon dioxide, and we'll also remove the emissions of two additional existing cabs for every cab we put on the street through our carbon-negative offset plan."

The company is setting up its call center operations and recruiting drivers. It will be the seventh taxi service in Arlington. Red Top, which has been in business in Arlington since the 1960s, recently added five hybrid Ford Escapes to its fleet.
