Calendar of Events

APRIL

11 University of Maryland's Cupid Cup, an annual business competition showcasing young entrepreneurs from the University of Maryland.

11 Application deadline for the Greater Washington Board of Trade's Small Business Network Academy, a six-month curriculum of peer-level exchange and management training for entrepreneurs. The program is for 25 to 30 business owners in the greater Washington area that have been in business for at least a year. Firms that have annual revenue of $500,000 or less and are less than 10 years old are encouraged to apply.

11 Deadline for SmartCEO magazine Bravo awards nominations. In July, SmartCEO magazine will profile 25 top female executives with achievement awards. Winners will be honored at a July 17 event. Nominations are accepted online.

11-13 International Franchise Association sponsors an expo at the Washington Convention Center.

16 The Innovation Economy, better known as TiE-DC, is hosting a seminar on opportunities in the healthcare sector. "The Elusive Patient Interface" will be held 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Johns Hopkins University's Montgomery County Campus in Rockville, Md.

16-18 U.S. Chamber of Commerce is hosting a small business summit in Washington.

21-25 Small Business Administration is hosting National Small Business Week in Washington and New York.

22 BizLaunch and Arlington County's Small Business Coordinating Council are hosting a conference on best practices for businesses during tough economic times. It will be held in Arlington, Va., from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

MAY

4-7 National Business Incubation Association's 22nd annual conference in San Antonio, Texas.

6-7 Center for Women's Business Research national symposium. The group will release results of its three-year study "Accelerating the Growth of Businesses Owned by Women of Color" at the Omni Shoreham hotel in Washington. RSVP by Apr. 18.

7 Entrepreneur groups Yes Circle, TiE-DC and Success in the City are hosting a networking party at the office of Dickstein Shapiro in Washington from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.


20-23 The Association for Enterprise Opportunity hosts the National Summit on Entrepreneurship, including a rural track, in Anaheim, Calif.
