31 Whirlpool is hosting its fourth annual Mother of Invention Grant Program that provides seed money and guidance to moms to turn their invention, business or service ideas into a full-fledged business. Contest winners receive $20,000 for the grand prize and $5,000 to $7,000 as the four runners-up. Whirlpool added a category this year focused on moms who create an environmentally friendly product or service or use natural or recycled materials to create their invention. 3-5 The Small Business Administration is hosting an international trade symposium with the Commerce Department at the 26th Annual National Minority Enterprise Development Conference. 15-16 The International Franchise Association is hosting an "appreciation day" that will include briefings and round table discussions on issues affecting franchisers such as affordable health care and immigration reform.
