21 The National Business Incubation Association is hosting a webinar "25 things I wish I'd known before I became an incubator manager" at 2 p.m. ET. Industry veteran Jim Greenwood of Greenwood Consulting will lead the live, online discussion. He spent 11 years as manager of the first incubator in New Mexico. The fee is $49 for members and $79 for nonmembers.

27 TiE-DC, Success in the City and Yes Circle are hosting the Aloha Summer Networking Luau on the Merrill Lynch rooftop at 1850 K St., NW in Washington, D.C., from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

SEPTEMBER

2 South Fairfax Small Business Development Center is sponsoring a call on patents, trademarks and copyrights. A patent attorney will discuss the difference between the three and how to use intellectual property to compete in the marketplace. The event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET and costs $40 if you register before Aug. 26 and $65 afterward.

2-5 Association of Small Business Development Centers hosts its annual conference in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency.

3-5 Small Business Administration hosts an international trade symposium with the Commerce Department at the 26th Annual National Minority Enterprise Development Conference. The conference will be held at the Omni Shoreham hotel in Washington, D.C.

4 Washington, D.C.'s Department of Small and Local Business Development will be at the Enhanced Business Information Center (e-BIC) to hold discussions with D.C.-based small business owners who plan on selling or currently sell to the D.C. government about whether they are eligible for Certified Business Enterprise certification. 5 Deadline for early registration for the National Business Incubation Association's 18th Fall Training Institute, to be held Oct. 13-15 in New Orleans. Choose from among nine intensive workshops geared toward incubation and economic development professionals.

5-6 Women's networking group Success in the City is hosting a trip to New York for fashion week. The trip departs from the Ritz Carlton Tysons Corner in McLean, Va., at noon on Friday and returns Sunday evening. Cost is $375 for members and $385 for non-members.

10-11 Marketing conference Social Media Conference NW will be held at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham, Wash.

10-12 15th Annual Conference of the National Association of Seed & Venture Funds will be held in Detroit.

14-17 International Franchise Association hosts an "appreciation day" that will include briefings and roundtable discussions on issues affecting franchising such as affordable health care and immigration reform. The forum will be held at the JW Marriott in Washington, D.C. Political pundit and former White House aide to President Clinton, Paul Begala, will be the keynote speaker.
