Wrestling with Layoffs

We've linked before to our sister blog, Half a Tank: Along Recession Road. Their latest big story was about a man who gets laid off and decides to pursue his real dream: pro wrestling, spandex shorts and all.
The story is poignant and hilarious as it describes the scrappy wrestling gym and the characters that congregate there. But it also got me thinking about how much we rely on escapism during traumatic events such as a layoff.
Fun for the Unemployed follows the small adventures of the jobless, including writing long epistles to spammers and looking up things on microfiche at the library. They AP recently compiled a list of 10 Fun Ways To Kill Time When You're Unemployed, including making crafts, ordering coffee and ... going bowling during the day? Perhaps fun is a relative term.
