What Is This??
When I first started writing regularly about soccer about 15 years ago, it sometimes took 16, 18, 20 hours from the time I found out about something newsworthy until it appeared in the next morning's paper.
With the arrival of the Post's fabulous web site a few years ago, stories written for the next day's paper started appearing around 11 p.m.
As technology took off and competition intensified, washingtonpost.com became one of the first to offer staff-produced breaking stories day and night. Problem was, getting the information through various channels and then onto the site sometimes took up to 45 minutes.
Now, with this new forum, I will be able to pass along news and information almost immediately. For instance, if a D.C. United trade or signing is about to take place, I will alert you guys first at this site and then get to work on the full story, which will appear on the web site and in the print edition.
I will dispel rumors, fuel others, link to noteworthy stories around the web, provide reports from practice and pass along news and notes prior to kickoff. I hope to spark conversation and debate, answer your questions and address pressing issues.
In essence, I hope to make this a must-read site for American soccer fans all over the country.
