Adu Is Back (Um, Sort Of)

Fro, not Freddy.

As we reported in the Post many months ago, Fro Adu is headed to George Mason University to play some futbol. It became official today. For those of you who haven't followed his career, Fro has been attending Georgetown Prep in Rockville/Bethesda and was made a first-team All-Met defender by the Post last fall.

Here are some comments from GMU Coach (and former MLS coach) Greg Andrulis:

"Fro has excellent athletic ability, soccer intelligence and is a great fit for Mason's style of play. Although Fro has accomplished so much at a young age, the encouraging thing is that we feel he has just begun to reach his true potential. We expect Fro to make an immediate impact on Mason's soccer program."

"Fro comes to Mason as someone who possesses a good combination of talent and character. He is a winner who exudes confidence in a positive and influential manner. Fro is a natural leader and is the type of player who makes the athletes around him better."

"Fro is a very accomplished person. His outstanding credentials as a soccer player are mirrored by his excellent academic record and tremendous interpersonal relationship skills. Fro comes from a very strong family and has been guided by his mother Emelia and brother Freddy."

Maybe he can replace Erpen. and take the #9 jersey so I don't have to buy a new shirt for my son.

didn't this already happen? i thought Dan Steinberg was writing about Fro getting arrested for skateboarding (not a crime!) at GMU basketball games as a student last year?

That "Fro" was a different guy... as Dan pointed out at the time.

Fro still has some growing up to do. His game has definately improved, but he is no Freddie. He will always be living in his brother's shadow and he needs to be able to handle the pressure of that. Last season, he couldnt handle the ribbing from the fans, in a big IAC rivalry game and actually celebrated a goal by running by those same fans showing them the middle finger...

Hopefully, all those winters training in Florida will pay off and he will shine at GMU.

There is a jericurl cross-promotional joke somewhere in here...

By playing for GMU is he ineligible to play for our youth teams, correct?

anyone catch the soccer player from Ghana as accused rapist story out in CA?

i think the cops just picked up the first black kid they could find that they could intimidate. that would make a kid from Ghana a natural choice.
