DC-KC Nothin'...and Other News

In their final Bradenton preseason match, United played a 0-0 tie with the Kansas City Wizards, leaving their record at 2-2-1 (they beat Columbus and the under-17 national team, lost to New York and Odense of Denmark, and tied the Wiz today).

Today's starters:
Erpen, Boswell, Namoff
Olsen, Carroll, Simms, Gros
Moreno, Walker

They played three 30-minute periods, with lots of substitutions. Nolly and Moose went all 90. Perkins, Emilio and Gomez did not play at all (not injured, just held out). Nolly, I'm told, was very good. Moose played in the middle and then moved to the flank. After the first 30 minutes, Stokes, McTavish and Wilson played along the back. Kpene came on for Walker after 45. Dyachenko came on to play up top and in midfield.

Stokes and goalie Matt Nelson are now done with their tryout without being offered a contract, and longshot Georgetown rookie Ricky Schramm has been cut. He did not play today. I hope to talk to him in the next day or two to see what his next step will be in pursuit of an MLS job.

Next stop for DCU: Tegucigalpa, Honduras, for Wednesday's Champions' Cup quarterfinal opener against Olimpia.

Here's your traveling roster:
Perkins, Nolly
Namoff, Boswell, Erpen, Wilson, McTavish
Olsen, Gros, B. Carroll, Simms, Gomez, Moose, DeRoux, Dyachenko
Moreno, Walker, Emilio
(Casal is not yet eligible)
