Goalkeeping Issues Solved?
This just in:
Jay Nolly is close to signing with United to become Troy Perkins's back-up. A source close to the negotiations said Nolly is en route to Florida to join the club and a deal should be reached in the next few days. Nolly, whose rights were acquired from RSL in the Adu trade, had been pursuing European opportunities but did not end up signing with a club.
Assuming the deal gets done, all that remains for United is determining who earns the No. 3 keeper slot -- Ryan McIntosh or Shawn Crowe. The club would likely offer a developmental contract to the No. 3, eliminating from contention the other goalie in camp, Matt Nelson, who is too old for that type of deal.
