United Tidbits
Nothing urgent, just wanted to keep y'all updated on a few matters:
-- Kasali Yinka Casal is scheduled to return to England on Monday to complete visa paperwork. Obviously, he will not be available for the Olimpia opener on Wednesday. If all goes well, he'll rejoin the club late next week in Washington.
-- Don't expect any roster cuts the next few days. The club has until March 1 to finalize its squad, and they might wait until then to announce anything. Among the issues: Who is the third goalkeeper? Will Georgetown's Ricky Schramm make the cut? Does Kiki Willis have a future despite his toe problems? Has Stokes done enough to earn a contract? On another matter, the club still has to work out its foreign acquisitions the next few weeks.
-- United will finish its Bradenton exhibition schedule Sunday morning against Kansas City. Following the Olimpia match, they'll return to Washington and spend a week of training at RFK before the second leg. Hopefully things will warm up around here in time.
-- Nolly has finalized his contract. No official details, but considering he made 28K last year, I would guess he'll be between 35 and 40K this year.
Over the next couple days, I will prepare some MLS collective bargaining agreement information -- stuff you probably haven't seen anywhere else and will provide some insight into where the players stand financially and politically in MLS.
