United Mini-Update

No, I'm not with the club in Florida. Instead, I've got Mason-VCU hoops tonight in Richmond.

Nonetheless, I've got some DCU tidbits to pass along...

*U.S.-Danish defender Jamil Fearrington has trained the past two days with the team in Sunrise, Fla., and could see his first real action Tuesday afternoon when United scrimmages Florida International University. Brazilian forward Welton Silva has continued his workouts. We should know more about their long-term prospects this weekend.

*Troy Perkins, who strained his quadriceps in the Olimpia match last week, is "coming along nicely," according to a club spokesman who may or may not be named Kyle. Perkins is not participating in regular drills, but has been jogging and working out on the side. No timetable yet on his return to normal activity.

*Bobby Boswell predicts a 6-0 victory over his FIU alma mater tomorrow. Is that guaranteed, though? "Nothing is guaranteed in life," the defender/spiritual leader said, "except that Christian Gomez is awesome."

With that, I leave you.

Ouch.
Tough break Goffer.
I will be very curious to hear about Jamil and his reactions to being in the US.

*Well, at least Jamil won't think it's cold when the team gets back to DC...

*Bobby has a second career as a guru in front of him...hopefully his new website will be loaded with such tasty tidbits of wisdom.

Boswell is a riot. He needs to start networking now to get a late night talk show after his playing days are over, or at least to be a DCU color man.

Potential RFK sign:

Death, taxes, gomez goals

Is there any word on a new signing this week (even if it is just the official Casal signing)?

Posted by: Eric Z | March 5, 2007 2:41 PM | Report abuse

Just awaiting the official signings of Casal, Kpene and Crewe. Complications are always possible, especially with international players (Casal and Kpene).

Posted by: Goff | March 5, 2007 2:48 PM | Report abuse

What are Casal, Kpene and Crewe going to be classified as? Development, youth international, etc?

Posted by: Sean | March 5, 2007 2:56 PM | Report abuse

Casal and Kpene are going to be YIs. I assume both will be developmental, but I haven't heard anything about Casal yet. Crewe will be given a developmental contract.

Bobby Boswell is awesome.

That is all.

* Crowe = developmental roster
* Knepe = developmental roster + youth international
* Casal = senior roster + youth international

Was North (injured 2nd round pick) ever signed?

Posted by: Eric Z | March 5, 2007 3:19 PM | Report abuse

Two Jamils and two Carrolls on one team. May the gods of broadcasting help Fox Soccer.

Posted by: Anonymous | March 5, 2007 3:19 PM | Report abuse

No, North was never signed. The club says they are still interested in him and might give him another look when he recovers from his leg injury.

Steve Goff: 2 Blogs, no waiting.

Nothing can help FSC's broadcasting idiots. Just thank the Broadcasting Gods (or Umbilical Brothers) for the mute button.

Tell Mr. Sheldon that we all say 'hi'. Is it customary to 'out' leak sources like that?

thanks for the DCU fix, Goff! Love Boswell. I'd love for him and Olsen to get a talk show.

SG:
[1] any idea as to whether Fearrington would be a senior roster or developmental player? It would seem as if he might be Casal-like (cheap senior roster player)
[2] it looks like we have a few open developmental spots with 8 of 10 spots claimed (Crowe, McTavish, J Carroll, Arguez, deRoux, Moose, Dyachenko, Knepe). Do you think that DCU is keeping a few spots open for injured candidates like North and Kiki Willis? If not, are they bring any new developmental-caliber candidates in the door? Also, was Schramm that poor in camp - it seems like there could have been a spot for him given the roster openings that they have.

The team desperately needs to sign someone called "Jamil Carroll". I don't care how bad he is.... it MUST be done!

Boswell is awesome!

Posted by: Ursula | March 5, 2007 4:39 PM | Report abuse

If United will sign me, I will have my name changed to "Jamil Carroll", no problem.

Steven-

Any word on the waiver draft (or why MLS is so slow to report any roster news at all)?

Posted by: Chest Rockwell | March 5, 2007 6:33 PM | Report abuse

So we play FIU in preparation for the next biggest game of the season--Chivas?

Chivas is not CD Olimpia, we need games.

Posted by: delantero | March 5, 2007 7:03 PM | Report abuse

We also play Motagua of Honduras on the 9th.

Posted by: Chest Rockwell | March 5, 2007 7:12 PM | Report abuse

Chest Rockwell,

Toronto picked up Jon Busch in the waiver draft. He was the only player selected.

Mason-VCU...what a game.

Posted by: sitruc | March 5, 2007 8:52 PM | Report abuse

Thanks. I try to keep all the MLS rosters on my computer, but MLS often makes it a difficult task to get it exactly right.

Good to see Mason go down to VCU. "Cinderella" woke up and realized she needed to run down to the pharmacy.

"Nothing can help FSC's broadcasting idiots. Just thank the Broadcasting Gods (or Umbilical Brothers) for the mute button."

They do have one team of broadcasters that is all right: Christopher Sullivan and Max Bretos. They do a good job together. Sullivan adds real insight and makes the funniest, off-handed comments while Bretos isn't his usual Maximum Max when he's with Sulli.

Update: The mystery Latin American that DCU is pursuing is an attacking player who can play different roles but is most comfortable as a midfielder. That's all I know at the moment.
