United Update
Word out of D.C. United training camp in Florida is that U.S.-Danish defender Jamil Fearrington was not offered a contract and has left camp. Brazilian forward Welton Silva is still in camp and will remain with the club through the weekend before being fully evaluated by the coaching staff.

No pickle on my Boswell.

Well, that's a shame that Fearrington didn't work out--have to love a defender who has the word "fear" in his last name and we had the league cornered on "Jamil's" (even without signing "Jamil Carroll"!). Plus, he'd have counted as an American. Bottomline: we still need some defensive depth.
But other than that, DCU is showing some resourceful scouting.
Also, any word on the rumor that MLS is about to announce a DP signing? My guess is: Blanco to Chicago.

Man, if Blanco went to Chicago it would really start looking like they sent Guppy there to destroy the organization and eradicate the fan base.

Interesting. I wonder what the factors in that decision are. Did he have stiff contract demands, or was there a conditional payment to his club if we signed him or something like that, or was he really just not good enough? I can't second-guess the decision having never seen the kid play, but it does seem odd that a team as thin at defender as United seems to be would pass up a solid young prospect.

Steve, if Fred is signed say today, does he have a shot at playing against Chivas or will his work permit hold him up?

SG,
Fearrrington's trial was only 3 days before getting the boot - Silva's trial will last 2 weeks....sounds like there is some interest on DCU's part for the Samba Boy.
Will be next be looking at MLS cast-offs (Leitch, Kotschau, Sanneh) for defensive depth?

No word on Fred timetable, although foreign acquisitions usually take considerable time.
No word on defensive search. Hope to find out more later.

That seems like an awfully quick trial - didn't he just get to Florida on Sunday? And only play 30 out of 90 minutes against FIU?

I'm just happy I support the one MLS club with actual scouting. It also has benefit for the league when every player given trial isn't desperately snatched up. In terms of desire to join the league as well as the contract demands that come with it.
Remember when MLS was about nothing more than college kids, old US MNT scrubs and shipping off every good homegrown player to Europe?
By initial impression, everything after Emilio will be gravy.

while not DCU, any idea on the Galaxy "major announcement" tomorrow?

Posh starts in goal?
Posted by: d | March 8, 2007 3:40 PM | Report abuse
Gooch is tied to SL for the UEFA Cup after appearing in the competition for them a few months ago.

D: Posh in goal would be a bad idea for LA - but good for us - she'll let just about any balls through .......
I'm excited we've reportedly signed two Brazilians who were either MVP or leading scorers in the countries they played in ..... now if we could find a killer defender for the reserves. Or heck, almost any defender to play in the reserves, who's gonna be back there on Sundays?

Fred should stay in melbourne, we have bigger attendances than your top team and you have way more people in america than Australia

I would like the cheeseburger with fries and some defensive depth please. Thank you. I'll pull forward to the window now.
