It's Wednesday (Sheffield's Favorite Day)

-- First-round pairings for the U.S. Open Cup are set, with a few local entries in action June 12. Crystal Palace USA (USL2) will travel to the Jersey shore to face the Ocean City Barons (PDL), the Richmond Kickers (USL2) will host the Michigan Bucks (PDL) and the Aegean Hawks FC, an amateur side from Arlington with an interesting background, will visit the Harrisburg City Islanders (USL2). The second round is June 26. Eight MLS teams begin play in the round of 16 on July 10.

-- Gold Cup rosters have been unveiled. Insider loyalists have already seen the U.S. squad. Other names of interest: former D.C. United players Ronald Cerritos and Eliseo Quintanilla (El Salvador); Martin Nash, brother of NBA star Steve Nash (Canada); former Chivas USA midfielder Amado Guevara (Honduras); and ex-George Mason star Anthony Noreiga (Trinidad & Tobago).

-- After a fine performance Saturday for Bolivia, Jaime Moreno seems likely to play in Copa America.

-- Since choosing to play for Wales many years ago, Ryan Giggs's chances of appearing in a World Cup were always quite slim. Today he announces his retirement from international play.

-- I will host a live online chat on washingtonpost.com at 1 p.m. today (get your questions in early!) and make a brief appearance on Comcast SportsNet's Washington Post Live around 5:15 p.m. to discuss United. Tune in.....
