Meanwhile, in New York.....

Here's the latest on Argentine defender Mariano Fernandez, who is on trial with the Red Bulls. A good source tells me that he tweaked his hamstring and is being evaluated. If it is minor, he will stick around and train again soon. If worse than expected, he will likely go home and then return in a few weeks when he's fully healthy. He is clearly someone Arena is very interested in. Apparently, assistant coach Richie Williams was offered the opportunity to look at Fernandez during a scouting trip to South America this offseason.

... and in other news MLS Commissioner Don Garber issued MLS Commissioner Standard No. 79 - "As part of the Game First initiative, a new Senior Argentine roster spot has been added to every MLS roster, increasing the total Senior International roster spots available every team." The move, says an MLS spokesperson, is a reaction to DC United's success and the leagues effort to make sure parity continues exists throughout the league.

:)

I guess that new MLS scout in S. America has been busy.

The Guardian wrote about a rumor that RBNY might be interested in bringing over Teddy Sheringham from West Ham. Father and son playing in the States this summer?? Very much a joke rumor at this point...

"Teddy Sheringham, age 9,000,131,414,143,131,130,491,260,599, is so sick of seeing that rancid former squeeze of his in the papers (yep, it's her on the front of the Star today) that he will do one to MLS Sawker outfit New York Red Bulls. Given dear Danielle's recent attempts to make Teddy jealous/find true love, this could mean that hitherto unknown NYRB midfielder Dema Kovalenko is about to get very (un)lucky."

MLS would officially be a joke if Teddy Sheringham came here as anything other than a coach/manager of some kind. The guy is like 45 years old at this point. Granted, he plays better than most his age do, but the image factor alone would be horrible for the league.
