United Contributes
D.C. United has contributed $20,570 to the Hokie Memorial Spirit Fund, the Virginia Tech charity created to assist victims and their families of the campus shooting. The money was raised through the club's online auction of autographed, maroon game jerseys -- the goalies had orange -- worn during United's April 28 match at Columbus.
Jaime Moreno's shirt raised the most cash: $1,340. United investors Victor MacFarlane and Will Chang each matched the winning bid and contributed to the fund.
Here's the breakdown of winning bids:
Moreno $1,340

It's unfortunate the way that they had this set up like an ebay-style auction where the bid only went up as high as you needed to beat the next highest bid. For a charity auction people should have been able to bid as much as they wanted, probably could've brought in more money.

I wonder if this gives any bragging rights to McTavish and Moose for their jerseys earning more than the reigning league MVP.

Good job, now burn the jerseys, since we lost the game. :-)

What would really be great is if DCU and MLS let fans actually purchase replica jerseys. Obviously all proceeds go to the Hokie Memorial Spirit Fund. Just another way to support the memory of those lost.

I would buy a replica moreno jersey in a heart bet. I stopped bidding when the jersey hit $1350

Wow, awesome for those who reached out and plopped some cash for that. Kudos. Same to the owners and players.
