United Observations

Let's speculate for a moment, shall we?

During United's intrasquad scrimmage this morning, Kpene and Moreno played together on the front line, while Emilio worked with the other squad. The first-line defenders were Boswell and Erpen in the middle with Simms on the right and Namoff on the left. Interesting, eh?

Before we get carried away, it should be noted that it is only Wednesday and the coaching staff will weigh their options for a couple more days. But with Gros struggling at left back and Emilio in a scoring drought, perhaps we will see some changes Saturday in Los Angeles.

Asked about Simms's position, Tom Soehn responded: "We're always trying different things. That's it."

So read into it what you will.

Also of note: Brian Carroll sat out with an undisclosed leg injury. The team said he just needed a day of rest. Soehn rushed from the stadium and headed for the airport, declining to reveal his destination but saying he would not be at practice tomorrow. A club official tells me Soehn and Dave Kasper are headed to the Bay Area to attend festivities surrounding the Chinese national team visit and friendly against the United States in San Jose. Soehn will rejoin United on Friday in L.A.
