Matchday 9: DCU vs. N.Y.
Greetings from Estadio RFK.....
The turf covering the baseball infield looks awful. Might as well play in Lot 8.
I just got back from the pitch; it's not good. Groundskeepers were pouring some green sand formula in the grooves. Players were grumbling about it during pregame routines.
Okay, most importantly, pop/rock star Nelly Furtado, a Canadian of Portuguese descent, was wearing a DCU jersey with "Furtado 07" during her concert Friday night at Patriot Center. Furtado's crew had called the club Tuesday requesting the shirts. Her dancers also wore the colors. Boswell, B. Carroll and Gros were in attendance. We're digging for a photo (of Nelly, not the players).
For a look at United's attacking issues, read today's preview here.
Locally yesterday, the Washington Freedom rolled to an easy victory in its home opener and Crystal Palace USA extended its USL2 unbeaten streak to four with a tight win over league-leading Charlotte on a goal by Teddy Sheringham's son, Charlie.
DCU STARTERS
Perkins; Namoff, Erpen, Boswell, Gros; Olsen, Carroll, Gomez, Fred; Moreno, Emilio. The plan is to play FRED ON THE LEFT, OLSEN ON THE RIGHT.
Simms (ankle) and Kpene (groin) are out. The bench is Nolly, McTavish, Burch, Moose, Dyachenko, deRoux and Addlery.
As usual, your pregame, in-game and postgame comments are welcome here. Giddyup!
