Salas and the Fire
For those of you in Chicagoland in desperate need of a Marcelo Salas update, here's the latest from MLS circles:
The Fire wants to sign the 32-year-old Chilean striker and is offering $22,000 per month the rest of this year. The club would also be willing to pay a $100,000 signing bonus next year and a 2008 salary of approximately $265,000.
Will Salas and his reps accept those figures? I doubt it. Expect a counteroffer, further negotiations and perhaps a compromise toward a deal. We should know sometime this week whether it's going to happen.
The Fire has already signed one thirty-something Latin forward (Blanco). Do they really need another? Whatcha think?
