While DCU takes a day off and many of the players hit the links in their charity event at Raspberry Falls, just a few items to pass along today:
-- The club is in the process of finalizing a developmental contract for forward Mira Mupier, who was on trial with United last week. His representatives have already put up on their Web site that he has signed, but the deal is not quite complete. Should be another day or two.
-- The other trialist, defender Kim Jaggy, has returned to Switzerland. A decision whether to offer him a contract has yet to be made, as far as I know.
-- Don't be surprised if midfielder Dominic Mediate is re-signed in the coming days. If that happens, he will have to take a senior roster spot, which means someone will be waived or a young player (McTavish?) dropped to developmental status.
-- Awaiting word on the U.S. Copa America roster by Thursday's deadline, but D.C. officials fear that both Ben Olsen and Bobby Boswell will be selected. The Copa squad will gather Monday and fly to Venezuela. Their opening match is next Thursday vs. Argentina.
-- United will send a mostly reserve squad to Richmond tomorrow for a friendly against the Kickers.
-- Nothing new on the Marcelo Salas-Chicago negotiations, which is probably a bad sign for the Fire. I was able to confirm the Chicago offer: $22,000 per month for the rest of this calendar year, a $100,000 signing bonus next year and a $265,000 base salary in 2008. Not sure if Salas's folks got around to a counteroffer. Ignore press reports that said Chicago was offering $1.4 million overall. Not true.
-- Did you notice Freddy Adu did not start for dreadful Real Salt Lake last night in Los Angeles? If you can't crack that lineup, something is wrong. Perhaps they were resting him before he departed for under-20 camp today. Or maybe Jason Kreis reprimanded him for his on-field, arm-flailing antics at Alecko Eskandarian on Thursday. I don't know the answer.
