Copa Mundial 2018
As first reported by The Post in February, the United States is planning a formal bid to host the 2018 World Cup and quietly put itself into position to stage the 2010 or 2014 event if South Africa or presumably Brazil is not ready for the tournament.
After reading this story, however, perhaps 2022 is more realistic.
Barring a late reversal, South Africa appears set for 2010. Brazil is on course for '14. And if the Euro football establishment gets its way, the Cup will return to the continent in '18.
Frankly, I don't have a problem with FIFA assigning the Cup to Europe every three cycles (Germany in '06, England or someone else in '18). Whatcha think of this lineup:
*South Africa '10
*Brazil '14
*England '18
*USA '22
*China '26
*Faeroe Islands '30 :-)
Your thoughts on FIFA's plans?
